Overall great experience - no pressure - and left with what I was hoping for!…read more I called ahead of time searching for a new acoustic Stratocaster and had a great experience. I own a traditional, American made solid body Strat that I've enjoyed playing for years, plus an amazing acoustic Martin guitar that I love playing unplugged. But I wanted something more versatile I could take with me to jam bands and sound like a solid body guitar when I wanted, but also a true acoustic when I wanted. Called around and Portland Music Company had what I was looking for. We may the trip in from McMinnville. The salesman (or manager?) remembered me from the phone call and had several choices set aside and acoustic amps set up. He helped me home in on what I wanted and added no pressure to purchase. I played several different acoustic Strats on several different amps for the better part of an hour. The salesman was super helpful answering all of my questions. I decided to go for it and still love this guitar today, more than a year later. (I wrote most of this review right after I purchased, but the review got stuck in draft status, so I'm just now posting).

Interesting that these clowns advertise both online and even on the door that they buy, trade or…read moreconsign musical instruments. Last week I took two mid-level guitars in to do consignment. I've never been so insulted. These clowns must have assumed they were stolen. "Where'd you get them? Why are you selling?..." Hey pal, I have multiple instruments and these were two I almost never play (as if it's any of their business). They claimed there were problems with both and weren't interested. Now, I have done business with them multiple times, but they can kiss this customer goodbye! I'm not a thief, but these guys are jerks. To prove these were from my personal collection, I've included a picture of my remaining guitars. I ended up gifting the guitars to my niece.

We love Backbeat Music Academy! My daughter has been taking piano lessons there for over a year…read morenow, and we have had such a positive experience. She has worked with several instructors over time, including Bex, Ari, and Luciana, and every single one has been amazing. Right now she is taking lessons with Sam, and we highly recommend him! He is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and always brings such a great vibe to the lessons. We can clearly see my daughter's progress, and it is obvious that he genuinely cares and gets so excited seeing how much she has improved (whenever she learns something new or finally masters a piece they have been working on, you can see the joy on his face). If you are lucky, you may be able to get a spot with him! NOte: He occasionally goes on tour with his band (which I think is awesome), but even when substitute instructors step in, the experience has always been great.

He's incredibly smart, kind, and funny, and just knows so much about drumming and music as a whole. There is no other drum teacher in the world like him, and I'll be sad to stop getting lessons after I leave for college this fall. Thank you for everything, John!

I was visiting Beaverton Oregon and the first music store I went into recommended Five Star…read moreGuitars. I immediately liked the selection of instruments and amplifiers. Michael was quick to help me find the perfect Mesa Boogie and brought down some custom PRS guitars so I could rock out and relax. I had a great time playing for a couple of hours. I returned the next day and continued to play and chat with the great staff. Geoff introduced himself and asked what I was interested in. He brought me a few high quality guitars until I couldn't resist. He made me a smoking deal on the JP Mesa Boogie and a beautiful purple mist PRS. I recommend FSG's and will definitely continue business with them even though I am from the Central Valley in California.

I went in to buy a bass and a practice amp. I got talked into buying this little…read morerecording/headphone device for the same price I wanted the amp ($160). I was told I had 30 days to return it. I didn't like it and tried to return it a few weeks later. What I wasn't told was that I'd only get $50 as in store credit if the box was damaged (just the box, not the actual product itself). The worst part was the guy looked up the resell price on a used version and it came to about $80, but he then took 35% off even though it's a return. I then wanted to buy an amp (What I originally wanted before I was talked into something else) and asked for something around the $150 mark. He then tried to talk me into an amp without telling me the price. I had to firmly ask what the price was twice before he told me it's $300. Even though I was visibly upset from losing $100 from a product I bought from them because the box was damaged. I finally got him to show me exactly what I wanted. If you go here, know exactly what you want and be firm about it so you're not talked into getting something you don't want that costs more money. Also know that the boxes their products are in are worth $100 so you can't return a perfect condition product, within their return window, if the box is damaged.
