The family of George and Anna donated the house to the City of San Diego and it was converted into a museum in 1987. We kind of stumbled onto the Marston House. The majority of us wanted to explore other parts of San Diego while we were killing time before our check-in at our Vrbo, but my mother insisted on us staying at Balboa Park after already spending half a day there. We were all tired and ready to go somewhere else, but nobody says No to my Mother. LOL. We decided to wonder down to the George W. Marston House. I will say I'm glad we did. We didn't go inside, but we wandered the grounds. We explored the garden and checked out the different flowers. We took in the architecture of the Marston House. Mom, you were right this time! It was worth the visit! I wish we took a tour inside. Next time!

George Marston is noted for many things but most prominently as a civic leader whose interest and work in historic preservation and conservation. The house is a craftsman style and has been maintained as a museum exhibit for the public. About 45 minutes long and an interesting narration by the tour guide provides historical facts about the Marston family as well as details of the house and gardens. Tickets ($10) for the house tour may be purchased from the gift shop carriage house. Noteworthy house tours open only on weekends! While in the area, my furbaby Fendi and I stroll through the outdoor grounds and rose garden. The collection of roses are spectacular and fragrant. Many seasonal blooming plants to see and appreciate. Recommend.

Every single time I drive up to San Diego, I'm curious if there was a way to access this lagoon. Finally, I saw my way into this peaceful nature. You can also walk on a trail along the epic lagoon view. Parking is available in a small parking area. Nice quick spot to just free your mind away from your everyday life.

Why did I not go sooner? ...Probably because The Grand Avenue Bridge is located at the "beginning" of San Diego - in Del Mar. Usually, our first stop is a foodie place - instead of a Point of Interest - like this one. Grand Avenue Bridge (like Craig Y. said) is more like a pier because it stops in the middle of the wetlands. It doesn't connect from point to point. It was roped off on 5-7-23 for safety reasons, so, we just walked around to get better views of this landmark. Established in 2016, the Grand Avenue Bridge is popular for its walking paths in the area. The wild flowers, fresh air, free parking, and beautiful landscape is very relaxing and a perfect start to a wonderful vacation!

I have never been here, and never been to this part of Spring Valley. It is an interesting drive coming out to the area. Once you pass the shopping center, you'll sort of see the bridge, and the first parking area off the first street you can turn right on. If you drive down a little further, there's another parking lot. The bridge is really cool! Although, there's a lot of colorful grafitti on the steel beams, on the pathway, and on the cement entry. Lots of "colorful" language too, so parents be aware. Once you walk over the bridge there's a small pathway to the right which will take you on the main trail. There's an information board at the parking lot. You will need to keep your dog on its leash, though we did see a dog running around with its owner near a tree. There are no bathrooms or water fountains so you need to prep before coming. We didn't walk the trail because I had to use the restroom and we didn't have water. But the area looks pretty cool to walk through. Some others were walking over the bridge as we were leaving. I think the best time would be early morning. We were there around 2 pm and the sun was strong, so a hat and sunscreen is advised. I'm definitely coming back. It's a part of San Diego's history that's easy to get to. You do need to be careful when leaving because the cars are coming pretty quick from both sides. Cako Approves!

Gill who completed it in 1910 and modeled it after the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens, Greece. The fountains 1910 dedication was scheduled to coincide with the opening of the US Grant Hotel, which is located just across the street. It was primarily funded through the generosity of local banker Louis J. Wilde, who donated $10,000. The fountain received the California Historic Resource designation in 1971 and is owned by the city The fountain is unique and has 5 marble pillars holding up a dome that is made of prismatic glass with bronze filigree. There is water spraying upward from fountain pool meeting in between the pillars. It is interesting to note that this was the first fountain to combine flowing water and electricity for its colored lights. Originally, the fountain was topped with a gilded eagle. However, it was stolen and replaced with a smaller eagle made of zinc. If you were wondering, the original eagle was eventually recovered. The park is currently undergoing renovations and the majority of it is closed, However, the fountain and the section it is located in remains open and is operational. However, it was vandalized in December 2005 though, and had to be shut off until repairs are complete. A large rock was thrown into the fountain, breaking an expensive glass panel inside. It reopened in 2016. This is a nice fountain with a bit of history behind. I hear that it is known for having homeless people bathing in it, even though I did not see it happening while I was there. It is still worth checking out if you are in the area. There is metered street parking and commercial parking garages within a reasonable walking distance from fountain. Thee is also public transportation stops available nearby too.
