I actually feel bad for the people who own expensive homes up here, because people are always hanging out up here and not respecting the property. For example, I saw people park in their car eating and then they just threw all their trash directly on the ground. The park should really consider having a security guard or something up there. I hate to say that it shouldn't be free, but when people are not respecting the property, I would rather have it cost money than completely close to the public.

Helix, starting in neighborhoods and stopping at or near the summit. Parking near the top is very limited, and the road is one way, so be prepared to take the first space you find as you approach the summit and walk to the top. At the summit, you'll enjoy spectacular views that stretch from the mountains to the east, south toward Mexico, and to the Pacific coastline to the west. Here you'll also find an open air amphitheater used for concerts, as well as lookout points and trail heads. Plan to spend time here absorbing the views, fresh air, peaceful surroundings ... and maybe a picnic. I highly recomend a visit.

They have a nice track that is open to the public. There is a really awesome koi pond with dozens of turtles resting around the pond. Koi and turtles love all kinds of scraps we throw away in the kitchen. If you're looking for a way to repurpose fruit seeds and skins, the koi pond is a great place to connect with nature and feed the koi. Great place to do a no shoes, no shirt nature walk and soak up some rays as well!!!!

A free quaint museum about La Mesa's humble beginnings and railroad history…read more Parking was 25 cents for 20 minutes and we finished the tour with a few minutes to spare. According to the website, tours start at 11:00 on Saturdays but the guide was willing to lead parties around prior. The entire museum consisted of two rooms with a few artifacts. Our tour guide Paul did a stellar job putting all the objects into context. While I wouldn't go out to check out the museum, this is a great spot to check out as La Mesa local. Love to see a piece of history preserved so well in SD.
