Classy Comfort, Clean, and Caring:…read more *Classy Comfort: warm wood floors, designer kitchen w/ two-toned wooden cabinets and stainless steel appliances, large bathroom with tiled floor and shower/jet tub, all relatively new construction. On the second floor, peaked ceilings (knotty pine in the living room), a large deck, and plenty of comfortable chairs to view the mountain wilderness through over-sized windows. There's even free Wi-Fi to share photos with your social media friends. And did I mention the great mattress on the king-sized bed? *Clean: The bathroom and kitchen are spic and span. The floors are immaculate (leave your boots at the door, please). No dust bunnies hiding anywhere. This is the sort of place you could bring your mother, and feel no guilt. *Caring: during pre-trip planning, Jan responded promptly to e-mail notes. When we arrived a bit early, Sandy greeted us warmly, and let us unload our luggage. There was coffee ready to brew each morning, the refrigerator was full of food, and Jan was sensitive to my wife's gluten-free requirement (by the way, we discovered the local Safeway does have a gluten-free case near the deli). Jan was available each evening, ever helpful but always respecting our space. We enjoyed conversations about the locale, and her 25 years in Alaska. She also helped us stretch our dollars by offering us some coupons, and letting us use the kitchen for some lunches and dinners. We stayed five nights, and found this place to be a quiet retreat, up and out of the tsunami zone, but still close to Seward. Sales tax is less than in town, too. Get yourself to Glacier Creek: you'll like it a lot.

The upstairs common room is a great area to enjoy, relax and sit ($108.00 per night including tax). Room #2 has a queen bed, small sitting area, private entrance ($155.00 per night including tax). Room #3 has a king bed, sitting area, private entrance, is on the 2nd floor ($175.00 per night including tax).

The B&B is about 10 minutes outside of Seward, but the team did a super job shuttling us in on request, and it was easy to get cabs in town as well. I may have been a little extra excited when I arrived since I had just spent the last 5 days kayaking around Aialik Bay and probably would have loved any place with a hot shower and a warm bed, but once you meet Dave and Wendy, it feels like you're crashing over at a friend's house. Dave and Wendy are wonderful hosts, and the lodge is very comfortable and convenient, and immaculately maintained. We were 10 of us, and stayed 3 nights - used the grill, but not the hot tub - and made our own breakfasts and dinners at the lodge. Wendy was very accommodating, when two of our crew, me included, could not make the kayak trip, and found other people to use the slot, and helped us to make alternate arrangements. Wish we'd had time to partake of kayaking on the lake -- and our booked activities left too early in the morning to partake of Margie's home-cooked breakfasts, which sounded great. An unexpected treat was that they served free hand-dipped (in chocolate and rolled in toppings) gourmet ice cream bars in the evenings, and even at the shack they run in Seward. The yurts are wonderful and roomy, the beds are comfy, they keep everything tidy, and they provide so many perks! Let me expand, they have an incredible staff, people who truly love what they are doing and their enthusiasm is infectious! Every night we were there a warm fire greeted us with snapping and popping welcoming us back from our Seward explorations! The kitchen and cooking area is always clean and welcoming. You must cook your own food, there are flattops, BBQ grills, or even a stick by the campfire. I was familiar with s'mores which they provide ingredients for but I was introduced to stick bread, its life changing! There are so many options to use you can make gourmet meals or something simple, they make it easy no matter what your cooking abilities will allow! Morning coffee and tea are waiting hot and fresh, they also provide pancake/waffle mix for you to add to your planned meal. They have a supply of chocolate chips for a sweet twist but if you want with Alaskan style, and if you're lucky enough to be staying during blueberry season the property is abundant with high bush blueberries! Send someone out on a blueberry walk and add them to your fresh waffles or pancakes. Alaskan summer brings out the midnight sun, literally, but for extra light the paths to all of the yurts are well lit which make late night snack time or early morning coffee pleasant. The yurts do not have bathrooms inside them, you must venture out to the shared facilities. If you want an adventure that is unique, fun, and will be a memorable part of your Alaska experience, the Nauti Otter is the best!

Exposed light fixtures, unfinished trim...it feels like a remodel was started but things stalled out. The attendant was scarcely present, despite our requests for an audience. We were greeted by a note on the door even though we arrived during prime receiving hours. I said 'hello' when I saw her in the hallway while bringing in our luggage and she just put her head down and went on to load the washing machine without even so much as a smile. Our request to change payment methods went unheeded as she never answered our texts while we were standing outside her door. I understand that you may not be a people person, but it literally felt like she was going out of her way to avoid people. We spent 9 days in Alaska and visited a lot of lodges, motels, Bed and Breakfasts and by far...this was the worst and most expensive...even in Anchorage where one of the airport motels was a bit sketch, we found friendlier staff and a complimentary breakfast. I get it that resources can be hard to come by but a bowl of fresh fruit, a box of cereal, and some pastries from Costco would at least help guests digest the premium price tag on what amounts to a boarding house. We made use of the common space and made our own breakfast in the kitchen but that required planning and hoping we wouldn't be backed up waiting to use the stove or other utensils, plates, etc. With so many tours and activities with early start times in the area, it would have been nice to just grab and go...I feel like for what this place costs they owe you that much. Nonetheless, 3 stars for offering a bare bones room with beds...no frills, no personality, and a hermit attendant...seems more than fair. Hopefully this place wakes up to the potential they have to offer...but honestly, from my experience...it's just a little too lazy to even try. Sleep here if you have no other options...but that's about all it's good for...
