The other side is an old-fashioned soda shop that sells burgers, hot dogs and shakes. It's got fountain service and is set up to resemble the drug stores of a half century (or more) ago. The food is pretty good, and so are the shakes. It's a fun place to refresh, and in the summer you'll discover that a lot of folks think the same thing. The other side has some nice items, a bit on the pricey side, in our opinion, but there are still some nice tee-shirts and name-brand outdoor wear. All together we consider this a "must" for every visit to Brevard.

So we stopped here on our way out to the national park. There were no hard sells, no baits and switches, just great customer service and knowledgeability. Kaleb asked if I was looking for anything specific. I explained to him the situation and he asked what shoes I wore at home and what I was looking to do while I was in NC (which are the perfect questions, in my opinion). I told him and he not only was aware of the brand but also the important factors of that particular "model". (I am severely "duck footed" and need a shoe so wide that it might as well be a clown shoe). He brought out a few shoes that also met those criteria. I was impressed by the options he brought out because clearly a lot of thought went into the selection. One was the brand/model I wear at home (but the only color they had in stock in my size was pure white). Another was an option that was more hiking-focused (since I had mentioned we would be walking through Pisgah). And another was similar to the brand/model I wore at home but a more neutral color (since an all-white shoe worn while hiking will quickly become not-white). I wound up going with the brand/model I wear at home (Altra Escalante) in white because the aesthetics aren't particularly important to me, and, I wanted something more all-purpose. But the fact that he had really considered what I would be using the shoes for and presented several great options was really impressive. And all in all, the entire experience from entering the store to checkout took less than 15 minutes. No long waits, no hard sells. And no markup either - same price as Amazon. So I was very happy that I was able to support a local store with such knowledgable and helpful staff

I have Type 2 diabetes and the peripheral neuropathy that is associated with it. Walking lately has been painful. Specifically, in the balls of my feet. My doctor had told me to visit them, so I did. Wow!! I am so very happy that I made this decision. Kaleb spent 90 minutes with me explaining what I was experiencing, watching me walk several times, and then trying on multiple shoes until we found the best ones. He taught me so much about my feet that I never knew, and how to take care of them. I now feel like I'm walking on air, and there's no more pain. I'm so extremely happy and pleased with this experience. I highly recommend Kaleb and the Pisgah Forest location!! Call to make an appointment.

We had layers on layers, and a protective rain coat. We were wrong. Well half wrong, you see I did have a protective raincoat. My partner, was wearing a windbreaker. HE GOT DRENCHED. As soon as we swam back to the car, we drove into town for a proper rain jacket. It looked like everything was closed until we found the Highland Hiker. The store was bustling, and had all the equipment we could have needed. The staff was so friendly and positively wonderful. It wasn't just "let us know if we can help" it was, "here, let me hold that up front for you" etc... They were engaging and kind and made this silly shopping experience feel like it was meant to be. It was in fact, part of the trip. I also loved that they provide disposable masks for customers, to accompany their request that you wear a mask in store. My only regret is not getting the happy hiker t shirt. This was a missed opportunity.

What a delightful find in Waynesville!…read more I had gone for a run while away on vacation and on my route saw a familiar name--I enjoy shopping at the Fifi's in Cornelius, NC as well--and had to check it out! At the end of my run I returned and asked if they were associated with 'my' store 2 hours away. Not only are they, but I learned from the very nice and helpful salesperson that they have 17 stores in the southeast! It never even occurred to me to look for Fifi's elsewhere, so I was thrilled to learn this little tidbit! Now...the real reason for being there was shopping and boy was I ever pleased! A Ralph Lauren skirt in my size on the 5$ rack! I found an amazing St. John suit jacket...well, I found several but one can only buy so much at once without a scowling husband. ;) The store was clean, well-lit and had a super selection in many sizes. While not a petite myself, I was impressed to see a fully separate section for those sizes as well as a really great plus size selection! I wear 6 or 8 generally and there were a BEVY of items in those sizes. I truly think I could have completely restocked my wardrobe there--even a few evening pieces--had I chosen to stay on permanent vacation and not returned home. The shoe selection seemed quite nice in sizes up to 11, I alas wear a 13, so nothing for me, but lots of pretty pairs to look at and excellent pricing for shoes still in nearly new condition. While I cannot imagine making a trip all the way to Waynesville only to shop a consignment store, I can guarantee you that any future trip I do make there will include a stop at this delightful gem...and a purchase or two!
