The sandstone steps that link the Botanic Gardens with the Opera Forecourt at Circular Quay are well-worn from years of convicts, workers and tourists variously and continuously traipsing or trudging up and down them over the last century or so.
You can feel the history seeping out of Moore's Steps, and they've been inspiration for art installations in more contemporary times. Art and About often features there, and recently at Vivid Sydney (festival of light) the steps were rigged to light up as people stepped on them, causing great joy for adults and children alike as they ran up and down the stairs, a'la the piano in the film Big.
