I would not recommend Moore Accountancy to anyone and here is why. Upon receiving my completed tax returns I noticed an error which had to do with my fine for not having medical insurance. I e-mailed Sobha, the tax preparer on Friday, 3/3 the day I picked them up with the error I had found. On Wed 3/8 I still hadn't heard from her until I forwarded the e-mail to the receptionist to have her forward it to the owner of the company, Scott Moore. Sobha replied back 2 hours later saying she would look into it and get back to me. Now mind you, my returns had already been transmitted to the appropriate agencies. On Friday the 10th, still no word from Sobha regarding the error until I left a message for Scott Moore. In which he never responded to my e-mail or my message. Sobha eventually called me back and said that in fact she did make the error and the amount I would owe for the fine would be $695 instead of $1390 as indicated on the returns in error. On my way to pick up the amended return, Sobha calls and tells me she made another error and what I really owe is $1126 for the fine. That's 3 different amounts that I was given and in my opinion unacceptable especially when you're dealing with the IRS. By then I was frustrated with the incompetence and lack of timely response from this preparer especially when I paid $395 to have her do my taxes. I knew I would have to pay the fine so that wasn't the issue it was how much do I have to pay. When I walked into the office I told Sobha that the mistake in my opinion was a big one especially since I paid her $395 to do my taxes and the fact that I'm the one that found it. I then requested to speak with Scott Moore, the owner. He came storming out of his office in a aggressive bullying type manner as to intimidate me yelling "we are only humans and humans make mistakes what do you want me to do about it". First of all attacking me, the client as he did is very unprofessional. He claims that I came into the office mad. Of course I was mad. Still no excuse to attack the client. . Wouldn't you be mad if your taxes were done incorrectly? And no I wasn't yelling. But Scott was. Secondly what he should of done was apologize in which he never did. Thirdly for my trouble, Scott should of offered me a partial refund for the fee I paid him especially since I had to come down from the Santa Cruz Mtns to his office in San Jose to pick up the amended returns. But it was apparent that Scott is greedy and did not offer. Instead, Scott had to try and prove to me that I answered the question incorrectly regarding insurance by pulling out the questioner and putting it in my face showing me that I answered no to the question. The questions was "Do you and your dependent have insurance". I answered that question with a NO but had included a post -it -note saying my other dependent had insurance. I found that post -it - note in my other documents that Sobha had returned to me and sent it to Sobha and Scott in an email on Saturday 3/11. So someone in their office completely ignored it and that is why I was to pay $1390 in the first place. Again, in my opinion when dealing with tax returns, mistakes should not happen. When I told Scott that I would not becoming back next year his response was "good. I don't care. you go your way and we will go our way". Clearly, Scott cant handle it when a client finds a mistake that his firm made and calls them out on it. Scott then had to take to another level and be vindictive as to cancel the tax appt my brother made with him. Basically taking it out on my brother because I was angry that his firm made the mistake and I was the one who found it. Is this how a professional acts? I think not. Clearly this firm lacks in customers service skills, knowledge of the penalties regarding the medical insurance fine and response time in returning phone calls and e-mails. In Moore Accountancy Mission Statement the words "Professionalism" and "Excellence" should be removed. It is false advertising and neither one of those words were exhibited by Scott Moore. FYI Scott Moore, I posted a shorter version of this review on my Facebook page and low and behold 7 friends and a family member stepped up and claimed they are your clients as well. Those who have already seen you this year will not be coming back next year. Those who have made appts will be cancelling. Don't you just the power of social media??? I sure do!!! read more
