Short version- professional, knowledgeable, great problem solving!…read moreLong Version- David demonstrated patience and problem solving in the extreme for an ongoing and challenging electrical problem in my son's bedroom. The breaker was intermittently and frequently tripping. We had paid another company 2 years prior, over $1000 to rewire my son's room including running new lines form the basement breaker because they couldn't seem to isolate the problem. We thought it was fixed, but 2 years later, the problem started again. The other company was too busy to come back to deal with the work they had done, so based on a referral, we called David. He tested everything, and was quickly able to isolate the plugs that were causing the issue (something the other company never did!). He suggested we leave them disconnected for a while to see if this was the cause of the problem. He was right! Because all the other plugs were working fine for the past 2 years, we never got around to calling him back to rerun the wires for those 2 plugs until this year, when we noticed a terrible smell coming from an outlet on the other side of my son's room. After opening and disconnecting the plug, he determined that there was probably a dead animal in the wall! David was kind enough to help us cut out the drywall to see what was there. For safety, he also disconnect all the other plugs on that line. Once that was done, he further helped us to open the wall, where we discovered a very smelly and disgusting mess! Squirrels had chewed a hole through our roof, got into the exterior wall of my son's room, then chewed a hole through the cement board and got into the insulation in the space between the cement board and the drywall. While they were in there, they also chewed the wires and electrocuted themselves. David went above and beyond in helping us to open up the wall and make sure we got everything out (4 dead squirrels- yuck!). He also made sure he disconnected all the plugs connected to the chewed wire on our upper level. He has now rerun all the wires, checked that it is all working. For insurance and safety, he also called an inspector to check everything. He will be reactivating the the plugs where the wires were replaced once the drywall is redone. He will also send pictures to the electrical inspector for final approval. We are very grateful that we finally had an electrician who was willing to stick with us to fully figure out the problem and fix it! We would highly recommend his services to anyone!

The customer service lapsed after there were loose ends left in the installation. Ultimately, they did not follow through on services they guaranteed on their invoice and left the project looking incomplete without providing us with any options. Specifically, the services guaranteed that were not performed was complete programming of our harmony remote and wire concealment including installation of an electrical outlet. Even though we spent over $7000 dollars, we were told this project to them was only worth what they made on the install, which was just over $800. We needed a specialized ambient light rejecting screen given the space we have for our home theatre. Ed was very knowledgable about this. He designed a screen and got it made through elunevision and delivered it to our home for installation. Ed was unable to provide us with any official documentation from elunevision that the screen was in fact custom. In terms of installation, the screen and projector were securely installed and he was skilled in knowing how to do this but he was several hours late on both installation days. Unfortunately, we noticed after the first installation day that there was a large horizontal scratch on the screen. We saw this upon first opening of the screen after the installers left. Ed initially promised to help resolve this with the screen company, but subsequently ended up blaming us for the damage and saying it was owner abuse. The screen is usable, but this was disappointing. What was initially pitched to us was to conceal projector wires through the drywall. We felt this was unnecessary. Ed said it would be a piece of cake to conceal the wires with some kind of wirebox or tape and said he'd come up with a solution for us, but ultimately he never did. Ed was also unable to get ahold of an electrician to complete the outlet install. He said perhaps the invoice he provided us may 'stand up in court' if we wanted to hold him accountable to complete this service, but there was nothing he could do about it. Ed was unable to complete programming the harmony remote onsite. While he did offer to provide email or telephone support, we had to finish doing this ourselves too. So while it started out extremely well, we were really left to figure out many things on our own. We don't think we received professional, accountable customer service from EQ in the end. When you are spending a large amount of money ($7000!), I think it's better to go with a place that won't place an undefined time limit on the amount of good service they provide you. This company's home base is in Newmarket and was perhaps too far from downtown Toronto. The commute for the installers proved to be challenging and might be the root cause of why so many things were left unfinished. Ed actually seems like a nice guy. I think if we were 5 minutes away from him, he would go the extra mile. However, if you live in downtown like we do, it might be better to go with a company that is more local to your area.
