The pho here is super tasty, I'm from Boston and I think the broth was better than most places. Also the noodles here nicely cooked. The banh mi flavor was good but I wish the bread was more toasted. I liked that half of the store is a convenience store with a variety of snacks and Asian essentials. We ended up getting these dried jack fruit chips that was good too. read more

This place is wildly inconsistent. My first visit here, and I was very excited to learn that there was a Vietnamese place nearby, it was a hot sizzling summer day and as soon as I entered the store it was unimaginably hotter inside! There is no foot traffic to speak of to help this establishment out and hopefully they have enough business with to go orders from nearby residents, Church's, schools, businesses, and hospitals. The convenience store portion is very slim pickings, I would only be confident to pick up some dry rice noodles, random candy's, and snacks. Similar to a local Chinese to go establishment, dine in seating comes at a premium. And the tables aren't always ready to accommodate you. Please leave grandiose expectations at the door. The owner is very sweet and welcoming. How about that food though? Nothing is guaranteed to be in stock, sadly. I wanted to try the chicken sandwich but only beef and pork were available. Once I got the pork and it was traditional Asian pink/red bbq but this time it was more like stewed pork. The beef was fatty, a bit sinewy like, chewy and flavorful as all hell. I can imagine some people not liking it but I loved it. So so so tasty! I did try the Pho with everything. I recently had a bad pho broth experience in East Hartford, and Moon was able to serve it to me near piping hot as I expect. Overall though, it was a perfectly fine bowl. I balk at the price but hey, let's end the Ethnic food should be cheap paradigm. Moon Convenience Store does deliver on the goods they can but it is far from a perfect representation of what a Vietnamese restaurant or grocery should be. I hope they can be successful as I anticipate coming here for it's small but mighty charm, blocks away from Norwich Friendlys, McDonalds, and Stop and Shop! I overheard a phone conversation. Parking in front and back. There is a lot of parking spots in the back. It can be a bit tricky to pull out of the front spots if the road is busy. Owner was super friendly. She did let us know that the sandwiches weren't available which was a little disappointing. They had fresh fruits and vegetables available. They also sold prepackaged sweets, snacks, and sauces. The store wasn't busy at all and 2 tables of 4 were available. She was able to make and get the food out fairly quickly. The pho was good. The crab ragoon was ok and the spring rolls were delicious. The best pho I've ever tasted, hands down. The broth is incredibly flavorful and comforting. The first time we discovered this place, we loved it so much that we came back the very next day... even though we live an hour away! It's now officially our weekend go-to spot. Honestly, the best and most authentic places are often the ones hidden in unexpected locations, and this gem proves it, tucked inside a convenience store but serving some of the most amazing food. We're also obsessed with their milk tea, iced coffee, and bánh mì sandwiches. The owner is incredibly kind too--I asked if they sell the milk tea mix they use, and she immediately pointed it out on their shelf and even gave me tips how to make it. A queen who doesn't gatekeep! Tastes so good and authentic, and the portion size is good with reasonable pricing. The lady that runs the store is so sweet and remembers me and my brother during our second visit. She even placed a fan in front of us while we were eating since it was 80 degrees outside. They only accept tips in cash. Do not sleep on this spot or you will miss out on some of the best pho in eastern CT! This unassuming shop is home to a small Asian market, where you can pick up items like rice vermicelli, a variety of sauces, imported snacks, and drinks. Park around back to find a spot or pull up front for convenient pick up. When you step into the store, you see it's more than just a market. There are a few tables for dining in, and a counter at the back to order a fresh bowl of pho, or choose from a small variety of appetizers and sandwiches. This shop is modest and utilitarian; there is no time to worry about ambience. I've only ever seen one person working here, and she serves up a mean bowl of pho! She is very friendly, and works hard to get orders out quickly. I have taken out pho several times and am never disappointed! Her broth is consistently one of the most delicious I've had. When you open the broth, your senses are hit with a heavenly aroma. I always taste pho broth before adding condiments, and this broth is almost addictive with its perfect balance of umami/savory/sweet base. It comes with a generous portion of tender, off-the-bone chicken, an equally generous mound of rice noodle, and the standard accoutrements of sliced onion, cilantro, basil, jalapeño, and lime wedge. When packed to-go, your broth is piping hot in a deli container, while your noodles and meat are waiting in a plastic soup bowl with enough room to be joined in a perfect union with your broth and topped with the the extras packed into a little baggie. The packaging guarantees you can take this lunch/dinner anywhere, and assemble it without needing anything from home; a package of sriracha, hoisin, spoon, chopsticks and napkins are all packed with care. Some may say the price point is a little higher than expected for a bowl of pho; but I disagree, considering the consistency of the product, the quality of the ingredients and the fact that it is the best pho I've tried in this area. This place is humble and authentic. It feels like a home cooked meal, especially when you see the tiny kitchen this comes out of. I highly recommend this place to pho-lovers near and far. read more

I've been waiting for this store to open for quite some time. Now that it is, I had to check it out. The store doesn't disappoint with Vietnamese goods, some of which are consumer size and some of which seem to have come a restaurant supply store (gallon of duck sauce anyone?). Luckily a lot of the wares have English on the packaging in addition to the Vietnamese, so the curious can choose things to give a whirl to. There are also some regular American snacks and drinks too. I was really hoping there would be some Vietnamese food available to order, and there is some. The owner said they're looking to add more, especially pho, so the offerings are looking to expand from when I first came in. The owner is also looking for suggestions on things that would be attractive, so if you're in the area and are hoping to find something in a Vietnamese American convenience store with a food counter, relay that to her. I had a pork banh mi, milk tea, cream rangoons, and shrimp spring rolls. I thought everything had pretty balanced flavors, none of it was spicy, but there was herbaceousness in the sandwich and the rangoons. The shrimp spring roll comes with a coconut sauce instead of peanut sauce as the owner wanted to avoid triggering any peanut allergies. Overall I think the store is a little sparse now but has good potential, and more people should seek it out. read more

This has to be one of the best bowls of Pho I have ever had. The broth was so flavorful I hated putting any additional sauces into it. The normal drowning of siracha was not needed. The clear broth was spiced perfectly, every spoonful was better than the last. That little amount of fat dancing on top of the broth helped to coat the tongue adding to the full flavor experience. I was at Mohegan Sun, and then after all day of Dunkin and greasy fast food, it was time for some nice noodles. I am not from around here, and closest one was this convenient store/restaurant. You might think this is a kind of odd setup. Asian groceries and restaurant? I was kind of skeptical. My daughter really wanted pho.. and I was willing to try. There's plenty of parking front and back. I parked in front, but back lot might be easier to get out. Entering the store, I saw a little shrine, then I knew it was legit. I absolutely love it here! Small, quaint and cozy with a welcoming vibe and ambiance. It just feels like family when you walk in. They have a lovely selection of Vietnamese items and sauces for sale at low prices including things I've struggled to find locally that I can now buy! The food is SO. GOOD. The egg rolls and pho were made fresh and packed the flavor that makes you want to go back for a second bowl. The owner had the best service, friendly and polite with a big smile. After reading several positive reviews, we decided to give it a try and got takeout for lunch. Friendly service with a smile as she answered our questions about some of the menu items. We tried the egg rolls, crab Rangoon, pho special, and pho with meatball. Everything was delicious and the pho portions were very generous. While they made our order, we had time to browse the grocery shelves, which were filled with unusual as well as standard items. We decided to try some loose tea and chili sauce. Lets start with the grocery store, its convenient and has the basic items you need. The grocery store also has some interesting ethnic items as well as a refrigerated section that has vegan and pre prepared items. Now lets get to the menu of Pho and sandwiches, its GREAT! The bahn mi is amazing (both pork and beef versions are terrific). Now that the Pho items are mostly available I can say that the Pho Special, Pho Spicy, and Yellow Noodle are great!
