Firstly, Haywards Heath is such a quaint, classic, and unique country town. Quite removed from the tangible hustle and bustle of central London, it is such a nice escape. After a bus ride from the train station, and a nice walk up the road, we reached East View, where we met the lovely Mrs. Edna, who has been riding horses for 45 years. Though we hadn't booked in advance, she was quick to accommodate us for a late afternoon ride. We are novices, so we elected to take on the private woodland farm ride (£25 per person, for 1 hour). We saddled up, strapped on helmets (loaned to us by East View), and strode along just a portion of the wide expanse of land owned by Mrs. Edna. Our guide, Kathy (horse ranger for East View for 35 years), led us just a tad down the road, across a beautiful bit of green pasture, through beautiful flowers in bloom, and through a bit of woodland with varying terrain (much more exciting than an even terrain ride)-- and she taught us how to trot along the way (my very first time trotting!!)! Not to mention, Kathy was very patient and attentive during the tour of the farm, making sure not to lead to fast, making sure we held proper hold of the reins... The horses themselves were simply marvelous-- very well-mannered animals. You can tell they are healthy, happy animals-- of course this speaks to the kindness, passion, and dedication of East View's staff. I cannot wait to return!

This riding centre is situated in the beautiful surroundings of Ashdown Forrest where there is miles and miles of bridal paths and open countryside to take one of their nice natured horses for a trot. All rides are accompanied by a friendly and experienced rider who will be happy to tell you how to sit in the saddle the correct way. For as little as £10 for a 30 minute ride, this has to be a fantastic alternative to living the equestrian dream.

I booked a private hack in hopes that I'd be able to canter through Hyde Park and, wow, I was not disappointed! The Stables cater to all levels. Never ridden a horse before? You can try it in Hyde Park. Your kid wants a pony ride? They do that too. Want to canter for miles and put a big grin on your face? That was me! I arrived a bit later than expected because the alleyway to the stables was hard to find. Ross Nye and Hyde Stables are next door to each other so be sure to check you're at the right place too. When I arrived, all the horses were tacked up and ready to go. And, for us travelers, they have plenty of helmets and boots (in fair shape) to borrow. No need to use up that precious luggage space. I hopped on and we were immediately off to the Park! I'm really glad I booked a private hack and would recommend you do too. While I have a few years experience riding, another rider had none at all. My "guide," Annie was lovely! She was very knowledgeable about the Park, pointing out sites and fountains and had tidbits of information about everything (even the French from which "Rotten Row" was translated). And, once she knew I could keep up, we cantered all over the Park! I was thrilled. She was also very conscientious of safety, flagging down traffic so we could cross busy London streets and to stopping our canter set when an oblivious little girl wandered across our path. My horse, Clifton, was fantastic! He had an unexpectedly lofty, bouncy gait and was unphased by anything around us. I wish I could have brought him home. Most importantly, the horses were well cared for. I was told they had 16 horses at the London stables. And, when the horses show signs of being overwhelmed with city life, they are given time off in pastures in Chilworth. In fact, the barn shuts down at certain times of the year to rest all of the horses so inquire about your travel dates when you book. I can't recommend this place enough! No matter your riding experience, you'll have a fantastic time.

I actually feel sorry for the yard manager who is very inexperienced, has very few people skills,…read moreis highly unprofessional and hasn't got a clue when it comes to the welfare of the horses. Having read the other negative reviews both on here and the yell site, it doesn't take a genius to note there are an awful lot of people claiming similar things some of which date back a few years. Surely all these different people can't all be wrong?? The only positive reviews appear to be from April herself and those she has either asked to write or written on their behalf and signed as another livery. Interestingly it was not purely the poor facilities that this yard has, that made me decide to move elsewhere. Whilst on holiday I received a message from another livery to tell me my horse had been left with its rug on, on a warm day in August! More worryingly he was left with absolutely no water!!! One of the first things anyone who knows anything about horses should know is that access to water is of the upmost importance especially on a hot day! I had been paying for these services and they had not been carried out. Unbelievably the livery who had let me know was not given any thanks by April- instead she was told off by April who told her she shouldn't have interfered and that it will now look like she hasn't been looking after the horse properly. In essence, this is exactly what had been happening .A sign of a guilty conscience if ever I've seen one!! This was just one of many things that I had a problem with whilst at the yard. The final nail in the coffin was when I received my bill which charged me for extra fencing that my horse had broken. I freely admit my horse must have broken the electric ribbon as there was no other horse next to him on the other side, so instead of paying the random prices that they had charged I decided I would happily fix the fence myself. This was more on principle than anything, as I feel it was wrong and unjust the amount they were charging other liveries for damages that would have been prevented if the fields were maintained properly in the first place. Bare in mind that all the fences (and I use that term loosely) are just fence and electric tape- of which, never has any electricity running through it resulting in it being very ineffective. Again Danny and April are unwilling to accept this concept and throw bill after bill at the liveries to pay up for damages that would all be prevented if they actually supplied electricity. Don't get me wrong if this tape was running on the inside of a post and rail fence then I would be more than willing to pay to electrify it, but certainly not if it is the main fencing to the field which you would hope would act as a secure barrier. After all what do you pay your livery money for? Once I had fixed the part of the fence that my horse had broken I was approached by April in a hostile manner who told me it was not good enough and I still had to pay. I told her I was not going to pay as I had fixed the fence to a better standard than it was in when I moved there. She claimed my horse had broken it in 3 different places of which he had not so I corrected her and suggested she should consider electrifying the fences and the horses wouldn't walk through them. Because of this I was accused of being rude and aggressive. Unfortunately for her I have 4 witness' that all agree that I did nothing of the sort and actually just stood up to April which is what most people are too afraid to do. It appears that when anyone does stand up to them you get tarred as a variety of untrue things. My advice for anyone looking to move to Armoury- by all means go and have a look round! I'm sure Danny and April will be as nice as anything to you initially. Take note of the shoddy fences, lack of grazing, terribly surfaced ménage that is deep and uneven and floods really badly in the lightest of rain, and then go and visit a few other local yards which is what I did when I was looking to move. The people at Scarletts livery just down the road from Armoury all said April was well known in the area and that the yard was black listed. Even liveries at the yard I am currently at have heard about it the yard I am currently at have heard about it and they're a good 6/7 miles away! It's all got a bit embarrassing really....I hope for her sake she finds it in herself to take some responsibility to maintain that yard as a 'yard manager' should and stop charging innocent liveries when they've done nothing wrong. I could go on and on about how even when I left Armoury the travel box company had even heard of the place and quote 'You're not the first liveries I've had to pick up from here under difficult circumstances'. Enough said.

DO NOT KEEP YOUR HORSE HERE. Management is shoddy, fields are terrible, I left a while ago and…read morewould never move back. Terrible yard. Menage barely big enough for a canter.

THE WORST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO BUY A PUPPY FROM!!…read more Very neglected puppies kept in very dirty environment and been sold by a very rude person called Wendy who obviously just does this for the money as she obviously doesn't care about the animals as when we went to view the puppies they all ran away and were absolutely frightened to death!! When we eventually managed to get hold of one we took her outside to get a better look as they were being kept outside in very dirty stables without light. The puppy had runny eyes and nose and was very very smelly but we knew we could take care of the puppy when we got her home. The vaccinations were not even up to date!! The seller(Wendy) then just kept repeating you have to make your mind up quickly as i'm very busy and have other stuff to do!! She even told us off for being 15 mins early to view the puppies!! Both the parents of the puppy were frightened also and were showing their teeth at us and we couldn't get anywhere near them!! As animal lovers we were sad to see the way these puppies were been kept in these awful conditions and the way all the puppies were frightened to death of people that we decided to buy the puppy just to get it away from that place! The puppy always holds her head down and will not move an inch and that's not normal for a puppy at 13 weeks old unless they have been mistreated in any way!! Never had a phone call from Wendy the seller to ask how the puppy is getting on which just confirms that she really doesn't care for these animals and is just doing it for the money!! We will be reporting this place to the RSPCA asap!!
