During a trip up to LA/Pasadena, we decided to brave the heat and play tourist. I love a quaint and historic downtown shopping area and that's definitely what this is. The shopping park opened in the 60s and has a couple of miles of individual mom and pop shops and restaurants. There is lots of street parking and multiple parking lots around the area. We snagged a street spot, checked the directory and headed east on Honolulu Ave toward the bookstores I was eyeing. We checked out two bookstores, a candy shop with Knick knacks, a couple of clothing stores, and a few jewelry stores. The area had such a vintage feel; it was great. Shop owners were friendly and helpful. Families walked about and sat and dined at one of the many restaurants with sidewalk tables. Drivers obeyed the posted speed limit and slowed down for pedestrians. We walked and shopped for almost three hours and never even made it to the other side of Ocean View to the stores on the west side...next time. Can't recommend this shopping district enough! We were driving near by Montrose Shopping Park, and we decided to explore this charming city. Montrose Shopping Park is not a park, it is an actual main street! The illumination of the trees in this street is magical! It gives you this happiness and tranquility. There is parking spots in the main street, but it is not a problem if you don't find any because there is a public parking which is free for the first 3 hours. There are variety of restaurants, gift shops, boutiques, Lego store, clothing, barbershop for kids and for adults, ice cream shop, rug shop, and coffee shops. We enjoyed walking around the park. I felt like I am watching one of the Christmas movies. The illumination of trees for the whole street Christmas tree decoration and even the gift shops are magical I can't wait until we plan for our next visit to this glamorous shopping park read more

Montrose Shopping Park is a charming street district filled with business shopping stores along Honolulu avenue by the 210 freeway. Its located in an upper middle class neighborhood of Montrose. It has ample of street parking and public parking lots for visitors. MSPark has a good view of the mountains and people are friendly. It's a good place to shop, stroll and relax. read more

I knew about Montrose for a while now from LA based magazines and reviews of Yelp friends. I wanted to check it out because it's close by (near Glendale) but has that old time charm hard to find nowdays. Never got around it till recently and that's OK. It's always fun to have some places around LA area on your list that you're excited to check out, even after years of exploring this huge city! I was looking for an anniversary outing, closer by since we were tired after hosting family in town. So, Montrose fit the bill! We went by on a Sunday, right in time for the Farmer's Market which was fun to check out. Montrose reminds me of the main street in Monrovia (Myrtle Ave) or any other Main Street USA. It's charming, has a laid back vibe, has a lot of unique stores and it's fun to browse. Not too many blocks, just a few, but cool, nonetheless. Since we stopped by a few days after Christmas some stores were closed for the holidays and as an European I understand the need of longer vacations and celebrations, so I'll go back at some point and check out Montrose some other time of the year. Usually the close at 6 pm, so plan accordingly. But there are many unique stores to shop at, with interesting merchandise, some specialized in vintage, antique items, cute clothig boutiques, a few art galleries, a bowling alley (too bad it was closed for a private party, maybe some other time). And a few decent restaurants, a bit for everyone - from dinner food, coffee shops, kebab places, New American hip cuisine, Vietnamese, Italian, Spanish, etc, some more casual options, some more dedicated to fine dining. Great choices!!! Pretty X-mas decor that added even more charm to Montrose, locals milling around shopping, nice holiday atmosphere. I wish there were more cultural activities in the area, besides the one indie bookstore and few art galleries that were closed. But we got to see one of last (and prettiest) sunsets of 2018! Parking - easy on a Sunday, lots of street parking on Honolulu Ave and on side streets, free that day. Otherwise, paid meters and some lots around. Montrose isn't a long, bustling street like State St. in Santa Barbara, so don't expect a lot of excitement. But if you're looking for a charming, classy place to explore, indie stores to shop at, a cool restaurant to have a bite at during a nice weekend day, this could be a nice choice. You feel like you're on a trip in a laid back small town even if you never left LA! read more

This area on Honolulu Avenue in the Montrose neighborhood of Glendale is one of our favorite hangouts. It's not too big, not too small. Aside from Starbucks and Coffee Bean, the rest of the street is composed of independent businesses. There's a mix of clothing boutiques, jewelry stores, specialty shops, dance studios and marshal arts dojos, services (like Montrose Travel Agency) and a wide variety of restaurants. Due to this eclectic blend, it offers a small town Main Street sensibility. We like to visit here after spending time at Descanso Gardens, as we did last night. After a yummy dinner at Black Cow Cafe, we went for a walk to ease our full stomachs and be present in the area. We noticed many new businesses. Feels like a renaissance, especially with some of the dining choices. Looks like we'll have more to explore on future visits. read more

When I first moved from Chicago to California I was amazed by this place. Montrose is an odd little mini-town that is really either La Cresenta or a suburb (or section) of Glendale. Whichever it is - the town center is charming. The Montrose Shopping Park is a lousy name for what this is. A "Shopping Park" suggests a mall or some other preconceived retail zone. That is not what this place is. This is a natural "Main Street" running through the middle of a small town. That said - it is about three long blocks - filled with shops, restaurants - cafes - and other businesses. With the exception of a few banks, and a couple of chains like Starbucks - it seems pretty much independently owned places. The small street is tree lined, with Italian lights on the branches. There are classic clocks on the corners - cement benches - bricked crosswalks - plenty of metered parking on the street and lots behind it - and it is a great place to stroll. Come here - and stroll. In a city like Los Angeles, this strip of Montrose is a Gem of place - like Mayberry - you feel like you are in a little town. But this is in the midst of the city - pressed up against the mountains on two sides, yes - but there are hundreds of thousands of people living just northwest and, west, south, and southeast of it. So Montrose is not on the edge of the city - it is in the midst of it. So it is an island. An Island worth visiting. read more

Nowadays, most shopping centers, plazas, and malls are inundated with large corporate stores lacking any true character. It isn't often that one finds a Main Street-esque shopping area of times long gone where each shop is local, independent, and unique. Thankfully, one doesn't have to look much further than the Montrose Shopping Park. The Montrose Shopping Park is like a trip through a time machine and into the past where all the locals gather to both shop for all of their goods and also feel a sense of community. You can almost see the horse-drawn carriages of the 1800s clopping down the street. The area encompasses one main street (Honolulu) with a few channels wavering off filled with small, local businesses. What kind of shops, you ask? A children's book store (Once Upon a Time), candy and treats (Montrose Candy Co), Faye's (women's clothing best suited for the elderly), a watch shop, art galleries, an ice cream parlor, toy store, an incredibly amazing retro bowling alley with only 7 lanes, and even a station for the Glendale Police (it is tiny!). The side streets feature a bit more of the health and beauty-inclined storefronts such as martial arts studios, hair salons, and vitamin shops. Basically, the Montrose Shopping Park well-situated in diversity. Naturally, the Montrose Shopping Park features several eateries, cafes, and restaurants. Most of these are local and independent with a a few mainstream stragglers (Starbucks, Coffee Bean, and Mamas and Papas Pizza). Each eatery features outdoor seating perfect for warm and romantic nights. Want to grab ingredients to cook for yourself? The Montrose Shopping Park is anchored at the end by a large Trader Joe's plus a library where you can grab a book to read while you eat. So what makes the Montrose Shopping Park truly stand out? The environment. First of all, it is nothing short of quaint and 'cute'. The streets feature benches under flowering trees and it is quiet and peaceful. In fact, it was so quiet and 'slow' that you almost forget you are in LA and can compare the ambiance to a sort of lower-level Santa Barbara. During the holidays, the street is decorated and filled with shimmering lights which is quite gorgeous to drive through at night. Plus, the area holds farmers markets, art walks, and other local events truly bring together the community. Main tip? Many of these are shops close early (6pm) and "late" is 8pm (restaurants are open later;) so definitely call specific stores for times if your shopping trip is urgent. Parking is somewhat tricky: street parking with meters but also a "local parking" lot (there are signs pointing to this). The meters are free after 6 pm. The Montrose Shopping Park is not the place to go to find commercially main stream goods but if you are seeking a unique gift in a peaceful environment; then you have met your match. Honolulu is a great place for a stroll with a loved one (lots of dogs around so not ideal for those afraid of 4-legged furry friends!) and will certainly bring an air of romance to those who favor less-populated shopping centers. Montrose shopping park is the best kept secret in LA. It's actually not a secret, it's been there since the early 1900s... Yet few people know about it. I live in Montrose and visit the MSP everyday - to workout at the Crossfit gym, eat at the barely ok restaurants, visit Starbucks, get a drink at the two bars, walk my dog near but not in the Farmers Market. But you know what I don't do? Shop at the stores. Because as much as I can tell they are open 1:30 to 2pm every other Thursday. I was just down there and half the stores are closed on Sunday. ON SUNDAY. The day of the Farmers market where tons of people are milling about. Sunday, the day people who work during the week can actually visit these shops. I don't get it. There's all this pressure to shop local and yet these shops are never open. I love Montrose. I get that the stores are the anchors here. I would hate for them to go and to lose the charm of Montrose. I want to shop and it frustrates me that I can't. I saw that Tom's is open to 9 on Fridays now -- why don't all the shops pick one weekend a month to stay open late and advertise late-night shopping? read more

I like going to Montrose. The Farmer's Market is great on Sundays. Get there early for parking & to get the good stuff before it's gone. We've been going to Montrose since 1989. It's been neat to see all the changes over the years. We've lost some great stores over the years but great changes have been made. Lots of filming happens here too so sometimes be aware of street closures. In October don't miss the Oktoberfest! It spans all the blocks & is so much fun for all ages. read more

Nestled away in Montrose and not too far from La Cresenta, is an array of mom and pop shops that adorn this main street. It gives the Cresenta Valley a small town, unique feel. My husband and I found ourselves here by accident, trying to navigate through La Cresenta to get back to the 210. Taking a break from driving and making random lefts and rights, we decided to park. There is a farmers market of some sort on Sundays. We ventured into the toy shops and it was just as quaint and entertaining as we imagined. I love these type of toy shops rather than the big retailers such as Toys R Us. Stop by just walk down the little strip of cute shops, it's a nice break from hustle and bustle LA. The stroll up and down admiring the shops is entertaining in itself. A much better window shopping experience than at a commercial mall. read more

My family and I just love to spend a few hours in the evening going to Honolulu Blvd. For dinner then a walk down the street window shopping, talking and people/dog watching. There are so many wonderful restaurants to choose from. Mexican, sushi, Italian, Mediteranan, American, seafood, barbeque, etc.! Several have sidewalk or patio dining for those meals you feel like eating outside. There is plenty of parking and the sidewalks are pleasently lit.
