5-Star Review - Outstanding Experience at Monterey Credit Union. I had an amazing experience working with Jaime Serrano from Monterey Credit Union! He went above and beyond to help us with our auto loan. From start to finish, Jaime took the time to explain every step of the process clearly making us feel confident and informed throughout. He was incredibly cordial, patient, and knowledgeable, answering all of our questions and ensuring we understood all the details before moving forward. It's rare to find someone who truly cares about helping you make the best financial decision, but Jaime did exactly that. We're extremely grateful for his professionalism and support, and we highly recommend anyone looking for an auto loan or financial guidance to reach out to Jaime Serrano. You'll be in great hands! read more

Tellers are nice enough, but the manager (male) is condescending and rude. Arrived at the newly remodeled location in Monterey today. Tellers are at "open" desks instead of the old style, where you can put down loads of cash and no one would know better. Now you're just letting everybody in line know your business, I let the teller know it felt too exposed. Asked who the manager was and politely let him know my thoughts. He didn't even acknowledge the concern/feedback, his answer was "this is just the way we do business now". Likely not going to have my business or my kids any longer with that attitude. read more

I went into Monterey Credit Union to refinance my car loan. Anthony Arredondo, Financial Services Support, was able to meet my needs. His listening skills, compassion, communication, and professionalism were stellar. He was flexible and responsive. He was able to help me lower my monthly payment and interest rate. Antonio advocated on my behalf and made sure that I got the best deal on my loan. He followed up with phone calls and emails to make sure all my needs were met. I would recommend Monterey Credit Union a 1000%. When you decide to stop by at Monterey Credit Union, make sure to request Anthony Arredondo. His work ethic and integrity will support your banking goals. read more

I have never dealt with a bank so UNPROFESSIONAL in my entire life. They have no regard for their customers, customer service is HORRIBLE & for being a financial institution they could careless about any struggles people may have that hinders their finances. If they had a NO STAR option id choose it. Since lending is a HUGE part of their income you would think they would like to keep good relationships with customers & auto dealers but NOPE. ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE TO CREATE ANY LASTING BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS EITHER.. read more

Wasted 20 minutes and a hard credit check pull trying to open an account, but the dude was more concerned with scrolling on his phone in the back office than staying up front to finish the process. If there's one thing I can't stand it's being put on hold for someone to scroll on their phone. My time is valuable. read more

My son just opened up his first bank account and the staff were professional and extremely helpful! An added bonus is that e happened to open it during a promo deal that credited him with $200! Shout to Brian and Anahi who were amazing! read more

Went in with the intent of opening a savings account. The dude at the front desk never greeted me and when I told him why I was there, he mumbled some speech about fees and minimum balances. When I asked for additional info, he stapled some paper together and handed it to me before going back to being unhappy at his desk. Thought it was maybe a one off experience, but based on the other reviews here, these people clearly either don't know how or don't care about bringing in new customers. Take your money somewhere else. read more

This bank is the worst they argue with you about taking money out I banked with them for like 5 yrs held my money from me if I wanted more than 1000 bucks had to wait another week to get 2500 bucks of my money. So I go in last week to close my account they tell me you have one transaction pending so we can't close it until it clears ok so they leave enough to cover it so then we will close it when its cleared so I go in today a week later to get my savings thats left 25 bucks they tell me you had more charges pop up 3 of them that equal 36 bucks so they add on 3 overdrafts for 90 dollars so I tell them thats not right come on so the teller goes to the bank manager and asked if he can wave the overdrafts she tells him yes but only if he doesn't close his account but if he closes his account were not going to help him so they want to make me pay after I purchased a car thru them ran thousands of money thru them never default on any of it pay my payments early and the get kicked to the curb because I can't keep my money with them DONT USE THIS BANK IN SALINAS THEY SUCK ALL THE WAY I will tell all my family and friends that deal with them to close there account. I wanted no stars but would not allow it read more

Went into the Salinas branch and opened an account. the people there were very friendly. Brian and Edna were very helpful and the bank manager David came over to introduce himself. Very helpful people, personally based on that experience , I would recommend Monterey credit union. read more

The reason I stopped banking with them is really simple, this was years ago by the way. I started to notice that the teller would never ask for any type of document to conduct business like their bank card or my ID. So one day after I did a transaction I asked the manager why was that because it really worried me anyone could say it was me and take money out of my account or get my information. He looked at me straight in the eye and said " Oh, they know everyone here" And that was the day I took my money back to the big bank because the devil you know and all that jazz. read more

Credit union is the worst. They do nothing to help with loans. We had gotten a pre approval at the branch. When I went to the dealer they did not want to push the deal to CUDL. They required a new application and run my credit AGAIN. JULIE who was the rep was completely ridiculous, she would not be willing in trying to make the deal work. Definitely not working with Monterey credit union. I also encourage anyone who has bad experience to go to the Better Business Bureau so they improve their services. read more

- Read all the reviews, all the way to the bottom on this place. - Employees are not friendly, they know nothing about being gracious and pleasant, and I attribute this to management. - Their lady named Maritza is the worst. She's rude and bossy, and she does not listen. I will never do business at the Salinas branch, nor any other of their branches. Their board chairman and board members should be embarrassed. read more

The service here is so bad! Rude employees, slow service and no regard for their customer's time or concerns! Husband has been banking here for years... I'm always trying to convince him to pull our money out and GO!!! HORRIBLE!! read more

Always helpful and friendly. I've done business here for years and would never go back to any of those "big" name banks.

Service is seriously flawed at this place. They definitely need to learn people skills and how to treat there customers. They will lend to almost anyone but not worth dealing with the service you will receive after the loan is issued. I originally provided insurance proof and they still want me to fax them proof? I tried taking in proof and they said I have to have the insurance fax it directly. Not the 1st issue I have had with them. I Will definitely finance somewhere else in the future. Read the reviews. They speak for themself. read more

This place was not very inviting. I am shopping for another bank and thought this place would be an option. I walked in the wrong door (my fault yes I know) because they do not have their doors clearly labeled. As a new time potential costumer I expected more clarity. Once walking in they were somewhat distant. The clerk that helped me out was not very attentive. I got some info and walked right out. I'll consider them as a bank, I guess but not if I can find better options. read more

Most ridiculously ignorant and rude. This bank should be closed down. Not only did they close my branch and lie about putting an ATM near by they also charged an overdraft fee on their own fees without notification. I had to drive to Salinas to close my account. Never again! This place sucks! Beware do not give these idiots your hard earned money it's a scam at best. Update: closed the account and still receiving statements. Yes this is the bank where I made a deposit and they put it into someone else's account... 3 times.! But only that I've day I had an extra 500 in my account. If I didn't say anything they might not have ever known that I got someone elses deposit. read more

Awful experience every time I go. The tellers are slow to help, rarely greet you. They need customer service training.

Best part of crashing my truck, not having to deal with the staff at this bank any longer.

Had an issue and tried to resolve it with them. I went in three times to correct the issue with no success. I then went to assist my son with purchasing a used car and when I told the salesman I could get a better rate at the credit union he informed me that was the place they used. I called MCU as I sat there with him and the Member Services Rep told me he did get a better rate. My biggest issue was on my visit when I told the teller I wanted to close my accounts. After being a member for over 30 years, there was no discussion with me on why, they just filled out some papers, walked over to the manager who signed at least one of them, came back, and gave me the money from my accounts. Not what I would have expected after being a member for so long. read more

Logged on this morning just to rate this credit union and had I just checked yelp previously I could've saved myself the trip. Who could ever get past the rude front desk receptionist to even bother trusting them with your money? I really want to give further detail but it would be petty and unkind. They sure made it easy to take my business right across the road to Chase. read more

AVOID UNETHICAL AND UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS PRACTICES and don't open an account with Monterey Credit Union. I went in to obtain a loan. BIG MISTAKE! The day I went in, I provided the requested documents, and the loan was approved. Months later, I was notified by a very rude and unprofessional clerk, that they needed some documents. It appears they overlooked some documents when they initially processed the loan. Rather than taking responsibility for the mistake and apologizing for the inconvenience, I was basically blamed for the mistake and treated very rudely. I made a trip to the bank the next day to drop off the requested information. First of all, the guy that opened the loan was unwilling to help me and asked someone else to do so. Then, they were unsure of what was needed and had me sign some documents, and I left . Turns out now, without any notice or explanation they have frozen all my accounts, which includes my checking account and my funds. My checking account is separate and had nothing to do with my new car loan. I've been a loyal customer for years. "I WILL NEVER BANK WITH THEM AGAIN". BE AWARE OF THEIR POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES!!! read more

DO NOT GET A CAR LOAN WITH THIS BANK!!! My husband and I bought a new to us family truck from the previous owner in May 2019 and used Monterey Credit Union for the loan. We were customers at the time and even had a previous car loan with them. Things started unraveling when the truck registration was due in September. We couldn't pay the registration because even though it was 4 months later, the DMV paperwork was not completed! Every time I would call and talk to someone about what the problem was, I was told a different story. I was told I'd receive updates and never did. I would call back weeks later and told a new story from a different person and that it would be several weeks before an update could be given but I'd be called with updates- and never was. This continued for a few more months. Here we are in 2020 and the issue is not resolved and the registration can't be paid still until the title transfer is completed. Here we are almost 8 months later!!! Obviously their DMV department doesn't have a clue what they are doing and Brooke has stopped taking or returning my calls even though I have been polite to her this whole time she has been giving me the run around. MCU is fully responsible for all the late registration fees the DMV is charging us, but I'm sure we won't see one cent from them to cover it. This process has cost us time, hundreds of extra dollars, and caused additional stress. Do NOT use them for a loan. Anything is better! read more

This bank is a very bad business apparently they have a no hat allowed in the bank policy and that is ridiculous because they have no authority to ask you to take your hat off they aren't the TSA!!!! I walked in and walked right out after the person in the entrance didn't even say hello and just straight up said there was a no hat policy very rudely! I guess they wouldn't say the same to a white person! It's okay I'll place my money somewhere else! read more

I wish there was a "No Star" option. How is it that in 2016 they have the banking technology equivalent to dial-up internet? And that may be too much of a compliment. My wife and I share an account with this CU for the purposes of an Auto Loan. I haven't logged in for a while and I received an error message in my attempt to review my online account. When I called, they mentioned that the account was only under my wife's name, which it hasn't been this way since 2010. I was also told that my wife's last name was still reflecting her maiden name, again, not since 2010. All of this was changed when I went to the branch, sometime in...you guessed it, 2010. Yet, the online division has zero knowledge of this. We live in the Information Age, where technology is nearly limitless. And somehow, this bank decided to sit back and twirl their thumbs as new services passed them by. To add to all of this, they act like I'm the crazy person for suggesting that this is ludicrous. It seems ridiculous to give them a bad review, considering they are already at a 1 star rating, but maybe, hopefully, this review would substantiate just how terrible this bank really is. I guess if you've been storing your money in your mattress for the last 50 years, and you're considering trying out a bank, this may suit your needs. But if your last name is NOT Flintstone, then I highly suggest you try any other financial institution. Like literally close your eyes, pick a name out of the yellow pages (they still exist, right?), and they will be a better option. This is crazy! read more

This week I called Monterey Credit Union, Salinas office on N. Main, about an Auto loan - I was told to go on line complete an application. After trying to complete the application, I went to the credit union to get assistance. The man completed the application for me, I showed him my credit score report from the dealership when I bought my car (725 experian). He said he had to run my report anyway. He told me my score had dropped 50 points (675). I said that's not possible because the score I showed him was from Sat., 11/11/2017, just 3 days ago. He said he had to to lunch, he would call me in an hour. Never received a call. Stopped in there the next day asking why be didn't call, said he left me a message, but no message. He had no answers for me about the loan, as if he just dropped the ball on processing it. I left angry, . I called Experian to get an explanation why my score dropped 50 points. I took out a membership with Experian, next day got a report on line Experian showing my credit score of 715. Not only did the guy lie to me, drop the ball in trying for my auto loan, but didn't even try to obtain me as a customer. He was too interested in playing with his phone. Glad I didn't join this Credit Union, poor service, incompetent employees, and I agree with the other reviews, rude, lacks customer service --- POOR COMPANY. Should be closed or everyone there fired. I closed my checking and was told I would get my fee returned . The manager was at lunch and I was told to come back when she was there. I work so I was also on my lunch. I called numerous times and only once did she return my call. She gave completely different info than the teller. Everyone I called either nobody called back or they all had s different story. I am going to refinance my auto loan just to get away from dealing with them. It's funny that when I closed my checking the two customers ahead of me also closed and had numerous complaints. read more
