I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to the Salinas area a few years back. Reading the…read morereviews for the Salinas PD really surprised me. If you think these posts are depiction of a poor force, you need to travel more and experience what other communities and countries endure. The PD is poor because you called in a loud music complaint - (probably one of many they receive nightly). And you can't provide an address, really?Right there, bottom of the list. My guess is if it was that important you could have figured it out. The PD wasn't there to stop a motorist from running down a pedestrian? Guess what... happens everyday in the Bay Area and PD can't be everywhere all the time. Yes, I agree traffic enforcement needs to be stepped up but more importantly, people need to take responsibility for their actions which includes being aware of what's around them. Put down your cellphone, put your make-up on at home, leave the burger in the bag till you stop the car. Distractions feed the problem. In closing I'll offer, what prompted me to visit this Yelp page was an experience I had last evening while out with friends. We were in a local pub and in walks 4 Salinas PD officers. Of course the mood was silenced as most people looked. Turns out they weren't there for a problem, they were there to be visible and prevent any potential problem. They worked their way through the crowd, stopping to talk to people, shaking hands, then they walked out. It was a good thing and I believe most people in the pub that evening would agree with me.

It is pretty sad when a police station has bad reviews. I was a police officer myself back in the…read moreday and anytime there was an issue, we responded. The first thing that kind of irked me was that there had been a random vehicle, no license plate and flat tires in my apartment complex for about a week. I asked all of my neighbors, surrounding neighbors and my landlord if they knew whose vehicle it was. No one knew. So I contacted the PD and reported it believing it was stolen. They didn't come out until about 4-5 days later. My neighbor said she saw them pulling a bunch of crap from the car, not even picking it up. When I came home there was trash all over the ground and driveway. Completely disrespectful that they took a bunch of stuff from the vehicle and didn't even pick it up. The vehicle ended up being stolen over a month ago. But it was not towed. Myself and 4 other people had called asking why it wasn't towed because it was in a neighbors designated parking spot. It was another week and a half before it was towed. I would be pissed if I was the car owner knowing that the PD knew my vehicle was found and didnt let me know. I feel bad for whoever owned the vehicle. The second thing was, I have video of an idiot driver running red light, slamming his brakes in front of me trying to get me to hit him and illegal tinted windows. I tried reporting online and it wouldn't work so I called the PD to report it. I will put the idiots info on the video and photo, but if I put it on here, yelp will remove it. Though they will probably remove the video and photo. When I called the PD they said that they can't do anything. I asked why he couldn't get a citation or anything for running a red light, illegal tinted windows and slamming on his brakes trying to cause an accident. This is what I had told the PD: This was at 8:49am on the corner of Main and Monterey driving north. I was traveling northbound on Monterey Road (cross-street Main Ave) at 8:49 am May 31st. I had a green light and a White Honda civic sport, Failed to stop at the red light. He was going West on Main, turning right/north on Monterey Road. I honked my horn, they slammed on their brakes as if they were trying to get me to rear end them. I could not see the driver because they had illegal tinted windows in the front. I have dash-cam proof of what happened. His license plate is very clear. There was not an accident but I think the guy in the white car should at least receive a citation for trying to cause an accident by slamming on his brakes, illegal window tint and running a red light.

All she had to do was make me a single copy and stamp it??? If you're going to work for the public and get paid by tax dollars and be the point of contact at the department when a citizen goes in and seek services we expect a little more! Moving forward, they also denied me the public records. I was asking even though it's not part of an investigation. I mean the transparency, what are they hiding or ashamed of that they were saying behind closed doors??? The people are watching and expect you to do better and hold the PD to higher standards!!!

I'm not from the area and was lost more than a few times in the city, but anytime I needed any sort of guidance or information I never felt vexing to the pleasant officers. All in all, I can safely say that this department in particular made me feel safe and welcomed in their beautiful, elegant, and historical city.

Her care of the community and helping people is really obvious. It was really hot outside and the officers have so much gear to wear. Fraide was still really patient and took time to explain everything slowly, so even though we were freaked out, we were able to understand what she was saying. My daughter has said she wants to be a police officer, so I knew she was really excited to not only be meeting a police officer, but also a female officer that was so confident and professional. If she does end up joining the police force, it would be these interactions that really inspire her. Officer Ludden also responded and has a good sense of humor. I was unhappy about someone's behavior today - which was why I called 911. Officer Ludden said (because we were at a fast food place), "Well, maybe we'll all get burgers and have a happy day." He said something like that, but it was the way he smiled and really meant it. It was funny and made us feel better. Thank you Gilroy Police Dept!
