I dont know why there arent more reviews for Heritage of Lyndhurst but I am leaving this to…read morehopefully help others. We had to find a nursing home for rehab purposes and we were given some names in our area and we decided here since it was so close to our home. There was a few staff there that were somewhat helpful but there were two nurses (one in particular) that were horrible and made me cry several times when I left there, knowing that he was not in good hands. I wish I knew the names and we did finally mention it to the director but we were afraid that she would treat my dad worse so we didnt push the issue. She was short and walked with a limp and worked nights and the other had glasses and they seemed to work together at times. Both of them made this such a bad experience for us and I tried to avoid them if I could walking in different doors so I didnt have to see them. The one with the limp was horrible, never helped, never made eye contact, did not say hello, and made you feel like you were bothering her if you did ask her something. I was always so nice and I had to bite my tongue from wanting to tell them off. I still think about what an awful person she was and that she should not be in the field of taking care of people so I feel the need to let others know not to come here if there are other choices. There were alot of other things too including the urination smell, the same program that they had on the TV every day for the patients (even they mentioned it) and the lack of help every night which seems to be a universal problem. I had to throw away pants that he was wearing because they wouldnt change him and I could not get the smell out after washing a few times. They didnt seem to care about these people. It was depressing. We have since left and glad that place is behind us but hoping this will help others.

My parents have lived there for about a year…read more My mom fell getting into bed early one the morning. She pressed her emergency button and it took almost two hours until someone responded. Luckily she was not seriously injured and was discharged from the hospital the same day. The executive director and I discussed this and the system has been tested and modified and her pendant will be checked. The dryer has been replaced once (with a used one from another apartment) and still takes hours to dry a single load. This is very stressful for her. After discussing with the executive director, the setup will be replaced and technicians will be in to check the installation. Maintenance requests are an issue. I am not sure if the requests are being entered correctly or are being lost or if there is an issue with how they are being communicated. The cleaning, dining room and front desk staff are caring and try to help. I am more comfortable after a discussion with the director, time will tell.

I just spoke to Kimberly Ensign the director at Waterford. She had asked the director of nursing to…read moregive me a call and it had slipped her mind. She was very apolgetic and she said all of my complaints have been reviewed with the staff and my mom would receive much better care. My mom was telling the staff that they didnt need to help her she could do it herself. She didnt want to inconvience anybody. All is well and I'm sure there will be much improvement now that these issues have been addressed. Thank you Kimberly for all of your help.

For her, this also became a comforting place to regularly relate to others with similar orthopedic issues. Comparing progress notes with fellow therapy patients and learning about their journeys was as valuable to my mother as the actual physical therapy. She was able to experience the joy of water exercise in a safe, well-planned environment. The open pool hours were very accommodating, the monthly fee reasonable, and the safe, well-managed facility were very attractive features of the post-physical therapy experience that is offered. Though I am an athletic swimmer and not as much in need of physical therapy, I plan to maintain a monthly membership at Peter B. Lewis to ease my arthritic challenges. I am open to the possibility that I would engage in both the dry land and aquatic physical therapies that are offered here.

I have had both aquatic and regular (land) therapy. I use the pool for exercise. The warm water pool has benefits that regular swimming pools do not have. The pool equipment is provided and enhances the water exercises. I have also worked with a therapist in the exercises room in a program designed for me. LAC is my go-to fitness place. Don't know what I would do without it.

Much thought has been given to creating a pleasant experience for visitors and residents alike. Garden areas are wonderful during spring, summer and fall for walks, bird watching, gardening. There are plenty of events, celebrations to meet various interests/abilities. They have just built a new addition which was handled in such a creative, thoughtful way -- residents' lives remained normal and calm despite construction. Plus, it is beautiful! Most important, I am thrilled with the level of care, concern and genuine affection/compassion the staff provides and exhibits toward my mother, as well as the other residents. Patience, understanding, creativity and sense of family are very evident whether a resident's family member is present or not. Nurses and caregivers have gone out of their way to meet my mother's needs and mine as well -- so I'd don't need to guess how she is doing. They share anecdotes of what she's said or done during the day; if she's happy, sad; ate well/or not so well; was up all night or slept well -- without my asking. This is very important to me as her primary caregiver. They are truly extensions of me and do it better than I ever could at this point in her journey. We are both blessed to have found such a wonderful place for her to live.
