If you like browsing around, there are probably better, more well stocked, newer libraries (like Montclair) but since the libraries are so interconnected, it's really easy to request what you want and come to receive when notified. I do think the parking can be annoying because it's either meter or wait until after 6 when the meters are free. This is unusual in my experience to not have free parking at a library, so it is a knock against it, but overall I like this place so I lean more towards a 4.

Nutley Library is the bee's knees…read more It's located off one of the main streets tucked away in its own little spot. The library itself is huge. Two floors and countless sections. When you first walk in you get greeted by the friendly workers and the new arrivals along with popular book choices. Most of the first floor is nonfiction and they have it all laid out perfectly. Just from walking through the first time I saw a ton of books that have been on my list for a while now. Upstairs is fiction, kids section, magazines and the quiet corner which I love. It's a spot all the way in the back that's perfect for studying or reading without being disturbed. I'm just very shocked at the amount of books they have. I'm a bit of a library snob and this is a great one. They have comic books, magazines, even a small dungeons and dragons nook! Hahaha. The workers are great here, they helped me find a book I've been looking for for quite a while now and actually had been waiting for another library to get for me. They had it available right away. This is a fantastic spot, part of BCCLS and just overall really well laid out. Can't give it enough praise.

Overall on a quiet day with nice employees it's super nice, but normally I would not recommend, skip the stress, go somewhere else

this branch location of the Montclair library is small and cute. Of course it has a lot less books…read morethan the main branch and much shorter hours but has many advantages. It is very quiet here, lacking the various mentally ill individuals who hang out at the main library and can be very loud and distracting, or disturbing.. The internet speed on the computers here is reasonably fast, as is the wifi, unlike at the main branch where both are so slow as to often be useless. This is a pleasant place to hang out and read or use the computers. Staff from the main library work here also, some of whom are quite friendly and helpful, I like to chat with the familiar faces.

Can I share a story with you?  During the Dark Ages (pre-internet, no Yelp or smartphones) learning about something a bit off-the-beaten-path, let alone being able to source it, was an arduous task. I was an English Lit major and one of my professors loved to talk about even more books than the ones already assigned to his class and he always mentioned 'The Three Christs of Ypsilanti' that he read himself when he was in college.  It sounded more interesting than what we were reading in class (sorry, but there's only so many times you can endure 'Oedipus Rex') and I went hunting for 'Three Christs' but never had any luck.  Most workers at other shops gave the quizzical "What'cha talkin 'bout Willis?!" look and I'd leave empty-handed (or with a completely different book... just because).  Then I found myself here.  And while casually strolling through the store and eyeing up all the titles... I found a used copy!  (Can I tell you one other thing?  The book was a bit dry and dated and part of me wished it stayed like the Holy Grail - that it might keep me searching through different bookstores but never actually finding it.) And it's been more than a few years (okay, decades!) since I scored 'Three Christs' and now I'm here once again - this time doing my part to properly celebrate and support "Independent Bookstore Day" - and man oh man... you could lose an entire day here just drifting from rack to rack, aisle to aisle, floor to floor. Whatever you fancy - they have a section for it. Pricing is a-okay. The quality of the 'newer' used books is most excellent.  (The older, more rare and worn copies are out of reach or behind glass cases.) Behind the counter is the coolest and friendliest gal. From music to books to merch to a "gumball machine" that has poems (of course, right?) - the world is a better place with mom and pop (book)stores like this in it. "Since 1984" - and hoping they'll be going strong for another 40-plus years... (PS: if you stumble upon the movie version of 'Three Christs' - skip that as well.  They tried to make it a comedy and it's awful.)

There is a lot of foot traffic and it can be hard to focus if you don't have noise cancelling headphones (thankfully I do). It is also a very small library but they have a children's room, plenty of tables, chairs, and a few cubicles!

The selection is expansive , albeit they may have one copy of a book on the shelf , understandingly given space . The Kids section is 4 doors down . Also great selection . Awesome space . No Big Box store feel here . Just note , for those parents who do take oversight to what their child is exposed to , know there is lots of material & books SOME parents might not find unsuitable for your OWN child to be exposed to . Literally there is a " Banned book " selection for young as toddlers .

It has served the public brilliantly ever since, providing an impressive range of books and services, despite its small size and limited funding. Its employees are kind and attentive. We especially enjoyed the room dedicated to Philip Roth, one of Newark's most famous former residents, who has written compellingly on his upbringing. Library membership is open to those who work in Newark as well as it residents.

If you are into graphic novels, the library has a decent selection, too. The library sponsors various kinds of events for patrons and the community. I've gone to one of the library events in Centennial Hall featuring the Arts High School Jazz Ensemble and it was really cool. Lastly, along with Newark residents, people who work in the city can get a library card. In short, NPL is a wonderful library with a noteworthy vision and mission. Its employees and volunteers work to enrich the lives of people in the community. I'm a fan of the Newark Public Library and recommend you visit it at least once if you are in the area.

I found a spot in the reference section and was able to get a few hours of study there. Plus, the Livingston Public Library is also part of BCCLS (sounds like "buckles"), which stands for the Bergen County Cooperative Library System. Within the BCCLS network, you can borrow books, media, and other lendable materials from any of the libraries in the system as long as you're a resident from one of the participating libraries' municipalities. This is a nice library with lots of natural light pouring into the rooms. It's a great resource for the nearby community, plus there are some interesting displays about local town history (Rikers Art Hill and hometown, Nobel Laureate Roger Yonchien Tsien (錢永健).

Now side from all the noise, they have a man who comes there sits and tries to talk to everyone. The one day he sat on one chair, put his legs over another chair and he had shorts on. The other day I went in just to return books he's sitting there, legs, crisscross, shoes, and socks off, and he's picking at his feet which whatever he was picking landed on the chair. The day he had his legs over the chairs, the director and other staff members happen to be there, and I told him of how he was sitting. The director said she would go and look one of the other staff members thought there was nothing wrong with it. Go to Verona library they have an upstairs room that's quiet that the children even at 3 o'clock are not allowed upstairs. They have their own rooms downstairs. They even have coffee maker there, pleasant comfortable seat, seats, and tables.
