We went here for a post Valentine's Day dinner. I wanted to check this hotel out after a friend stayed here. The security is very tight at this hotel, they looked up our reservation at the second gate before admitting us. The staff was very welcoming and offered to take us on a tour of the grounds before dinner as we were a little early. It was hard to tell in the dark but it looked beautiful and expansive. The staff here are amazing. Brought me a blanket for my legs as it was a windy night when we had drinks at the pool bar which is also the bar for the beach restaurant Marea; it was the best drink of our trip! The bartenders gave us a free shot of Don Julio 70 and said "See you tomorrow!" as we left for our reservation.
Mezcal is under the lobby, facing the ocean and pools. There are glass fire pits lining the bottom tier of dining tables, which are the best tables in the house. However, being a colder night than usual the terrace above those (half inside, half out) was fine with me. We started with trying to recreate my amazing drink at the pol bar, but it wasn't quite the same, still good. Complimentary breads, avocado wheat rolls or cornbread, waiter recommended the corn and he was right!! The butter came in a hollowed out avocado peel mixed with a little avocado to be pale green and then a sphere of yellow butter for the pit. Spectacular! (See Picture). Unfortunately there were no meat tamales, so we opted to share a corn and dried goat cheese with tomatillo sauce. Two bites, but yummy. They did offer a full vegan menu and on that they had a butternut squash tamale too. For the main course we shared a seafood platter: fresh fish, octopus, prawns, and scallops. At this point I was stuffed but my husband ordered two desserts to share while I was in the restroom: tiramisu con leche and churros with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces. The former was to die for, although both were scrumptious. We'll definitely be back! read more
