This is definitely one of the better rehearsal studios in Brighton. All the equipment is kept it pristine condition, the room are regularly cleaned and the staff are always on hand to sort out any problems. Each room is air-conditioned, which is a priceless feature given that rehearsals can quickly become very sweaty environments. The prices are competitive, especially when you consider the exceptional quality of most things at Monster Studios. The only problem I have with the place is the overly long cancellation period for regular bands, which means you must cancel more than four days before your rehearsal if you want to avoid the cancellation fee. For non-regulars it's just two days but even so this can be a pricey mistake to make. However, as Brighton boasted a hoard of cheap, shabby rehearsal spaces Monster is one of the few places that'll guarantee a totally professional rehearsal environment. read more

Monster Studios is among the best quality rehearsal experiences I believe I've had in Brighton. The only drawback that I can conceive of this neat little unit in the docks is the location. But for the band that have it about them to do a little travelling out of the city centre Monster holds a great, clean environment where the music can be the real focus. The studio has four rooms, so not among the larger of the Brighton studios. All of which have carpeted walls, laminate flooring and very comfortable over head spot lighting. There is a little table in the foyer with tea, coffee, cups and a kettle. Further to this the booking in desk serves as a little shop where you can buy essentials like strings, sticks and leads, and, if you're feeling a little filthy a pot noodle. Both the equipment and staff are really all you could hope for, with all the staff in working bands and projects outside of their role at the studio. This gives the place a real multi genre dynamic, so whether you're the next Fairport Convention or just want to rip your way though Slip Knot's first album as a form of stress relief, Monster is there for you. The prices are reasonable too, with weekday prices from £6 per hour. On the down side the cancellation process can be a little tricky and if you choose to become a regular and book yourselves a weekly slot the only advantage is that you're guaranteed a room. On the whole though, with parking at the front door and a bus stop close at hand it's definitely worth having a little venture down to Portslade to see these guys for your next session. read more

Monster Studios is a great rehearsal and recording space, if a little out of the way. A great place to practice the new track, or record the next big thing, Monster is professionally kitted out and staffed, with enough rooms that booking is never a huge issue. The only issue with Monkey is how far out of town it is, and that it isn't that easy to access. Still, if you're looking for a great studio space, look no further than Monster! As recording studios go, Brighton does have quite a few. Out of all of them, Monster does seem the most professionally run: it is clean, well stocked and looked after, and the staff are all in bands and the like, meaning they more than know their stuff. As well as that, Monster is well designed and set-out: a nice alternative to some the grottier places around town. The main problem with Monster is its location: it is truly out in the middle of nowhere, in one of the units at the far end of the Portslade Docks. It's clearly made to be driven too, with plenty of parking and the like, but if you don't have a car, getting there by bus or train is a bit of a palaver. In the end though, the quality is worth travelling for, if a possible extra cost on an already expensive studio day. read more

Better than Scream, worse than pretty much everywhere else. Amps available are just solid state and kit isn't that great, yet charges at least as much other places where you get decent valve amps and a kit that's just as good. Bloke running the place also threw a wobbly because a guitar amp on casters had been moved about 6 inches from where it was before we went in the room. Can't fault the cleanliness but I generally judge rehearsal rooms on equipment and the relaxed vibe of a place and this place definitely didn't have either. Wouldn't go there again. read more

Monster Studios is in my opinion one of the best rehearsal studios in Brighton. It may be small in comparison to Brighton Electric or Scream but this is exactly what allows it to keep such good tabs on general cleanliness and equipment maintenance. Each room is air-conditioned so forget those sweaty summer rehearsals. They serve a variety of snacks although no hot food other than pot noodle. I would go as far as to say it ranks in my top three rehearsal studios, however, the only thing letting it down is their cancellation period. For some reason regular customers have to give more notice than first-timers. Four days to be precise. We all know the nature of musicians and as such you'd think a more suitable cancellation period would make sense. You can understand it though, as they only have four rooms and thus their margins must be quite slim. All this aside their clean rooms, friendly staff and fully functioning equipment make Monster Studios a top-notch rehearsal space. With competitive prices it should definitely be one of the first places you try. read more
