I'm back to adding more reviews for our latest times in the UK. We spent part of December 2022 in the Peak District, around Matlock and Bakewell, and we walked the the Monsal Trail, a nice gentle hiking/walking trail through Bakewell in the Peak District in the UK.
It is along an abandoned railway line, running from Coombs Road south of Bakewell about 8.5 miles to Blackwell Mill north of Bakewell. It goes through a tunnel and crosses Monsal Dale on the old railway viaduct at the place called Monsal View due to the scenic view points there of the lovely dale. There are many places to access the trail, with car parks. Moreover, the trail goes by, and provides access to, numerous other locations along it, such as the Thornbridge Hall, and old train stations like the Bakewell Station in Bakewell and Hassop Station, These also provide places for refreshment, toilets, etc.
The station in Bakewell is a major and easy access point with plenty of parking. It is not at an end of the trail, but it is not far from the southern end.
It is a lovely trail with very nice scenery. read more
