Monrovia Days is a birthday celebration for our lovely city and they really go all out! The city is 137 years old this weekend! There are so many rides, games, and vendors - and with its proximity to the main core of Old Town, there's something for everyone!
This is an annual event - things always kick off Friday evenings and go all the way through Sunday night. All the rides and games and other activities cost a certain amount of "tickets" which is pretty standard for carnivals of this type. They have a large ticket vendor on site and the prices are pretty reasonable.
In addition to all the carnival activities, they have performances from the MUSD students and Centre Stage dance company - as well as a big parade Saturday morning. They even have a Beer Garden for the grown folks!
They stage all of this in Library Park and the surrounding side streets which get blocked off. I didn't see any bathrooms but I'm sure they have portapotties available. And there are so many stores and restaurants nearby.
Parking gets crazy during Monrovia Days - every lot is packed - even the huge Vons shopping center. We live close enough to walk it but we've tried to park a few times and it's impossible unless you come early so plan ahead.
My only complaint is that they don't have much in the way of food trucks - I only saw a shaved ice truck and some snack vendors. But as I mentioned, there are tons of restaurants and eateries within short walking distance so it's not an issue.
All in all its great family fun and would make for a lovely day out - highly recommend! read more
