My dear friend had bought a cake from Merengue Bakery (Cuban inspired) for another friend and my birthdays. I liked the cake so much I wanted to get it for my co-workers for their birthdays. As a result, I found myself first time ever coming here at Old Town Monrovia. I've now been here 2 more times since my initial visit. I love this old town area. It's primarily on S Myrtle Ave stretching over a few blocks. It's very chill and quaint. Love the huge Monrovia Library Park especially at night when the lights are lit! I didn't get a chance to go inside the library, but one day, I'll make that trip. Besides Merengue Bakery, there is also Paris Baguette. I also saw some Japanese, Mexican, Mediterranean, Thai, American restaurants... there may be a few other cuisine types as well. Other businesses are here, too. This old town is very lively and packed with great restaurants, shops, and entertainment. Plenty of parking available all around either in small lots or on the streets. Please do read the signs for any parking restrictions. I can't wait to come back here and spend the whole day immersed in it. If you're seeking for a new spot to hang out, Old Town Monrovia is calling your name! Come on over... I'll see you here!

Stopped by on Sunday, 06/08/25. There was a local festival going on during a warm day so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out. Very spontaneous. Local vendors and we also got a free BMW water bottle - it was nice to check out the cool BMW vehicles as well.

Came to try cafe olla and learned about the markets they host Fridays from 5-9pm. There was something for everyone. They had jumpers lined up for the kids that you had to buy tickets for Amost all the businesses were open, there's a lot old town Monrovia has to offer. It's such a beautiful area. It was nice to just take a stroll and try the snack stands. They also let you sample the fruit at the produce stands. I love that you can see the mountains and there's ample parking.

Clean theater with a classic marquee -- perfect for movie night.

Old Town Monrovia is beautiful and full of great vibes. Perfect for hanging out with friends or family, especially during events like Monrovia Days and the farmers market. At night, it's even more breathtaking. the lights add a magical touch, making it even more stunning. A perfect place to relax and enjoy good vibes.

We've lived here going on 7 years coming up and I love it more now than ever! The community around Old Town is just precious- I've never experienced anything like it - so welcoming and truly supportive of everyone. The city really goes above and beyond to help all of us celebrate every holiday and milestone - no matter how small - and Old Town is the heart of it all! Our most recent surprise was the Thankful & Grateful Tree Lighting Festival (November 2023) - I didn't know about this one before and we had such a lovely time!! Tons of vendors fill up library park, there are games and hayrides, and a big ceremony to help celebrate the lighting of the tree. They even had a "truck petting zoo" where you get to play in and around Monrovia fire trucks, cop cars and tactical vehicles!! I even climbed up into a fire truck - how often do you get to do that?? Haha!! So fun!! After the opening remarks of the main ceremony, we had a surprise guest show up to help all the children and the mayor flip the giant switch to light up the tree and all the park - it was so much fun! There were other performances and carol singers - such a jolly night! I just adore this town and this community and am thankful and grateful every day for everyone in it and that we made it our home! Happy holidays everyone!!

Old Town Monrovia is a very cool village/ town located mostly along Myrtle Street for about 4 blocks. Some stores are also scattered along Colorado, Lime, and Lemon, so it's a fairly good-sized town. They have a nice library there which is part of Liberty Park, which is a nice park along with a Mark Twain statue and a fountain. They had many shops and eateries and some restaurants as well. I got a chance to check out several shops including Moo Moo Mia ice cream, Mimmers, Sweet Ethans, the Acai Bar place, Basin 141, and the movie theatre. They have some pretty cool places there. I took a tour of the town and sampled some ice cream at Moo Moo. It was a great 2 hours, and when I have more time I will go there for lunch. I recommend this town if you have never been there. I actually never knew Monrovia had an old town, but they do and it's larger than I expected and quite nice.

Cafe de Olla !! Trust me ! Run! Support small family owned businesses! So yummy!!!

Who likes exploring little towns or just getting out ? This is one of my favorite old towns in SoCal ! It's cute ! I feel like I'm not in LA and they have the best small family owned restaurants & desserts/cravings. For Mexican food Cafe de Olla & Peach Cafe always has delicious breakfast & brunch. There are several of coffee spots& tea places too. On fridays they have a farmers market with music & activities for kids. Go check it out. It's fun. Let's not forget Monrovia Days. I believe it's in the fall. Oh I almost forgot they have a huge library with an even larger outdoor area with lots of flowers to just relax & sit under big trees & breathe oxygen Let's keep this place alive. Happy hunting & good eats. SYOY Add me :)

Love this old town, it has its own charm. There are just so many things to do, like shopping in the boutiques and vintage shops, having a quiet moment at the public library, picnicking at the parks, there's even a playground behind the library for kiddos to play. Plus, a bunch of good restaurants for adults to enjoy also (Like sushi, dine-in cinema, coffee shops, boba shops, cocktail bars, handmade ice cream, Mexican food, and so many more) Parking is plenty and easy, and the view is amazing too. It is just hard not to fall in love with this unique place. Highly recommend.

I've been here so many times it's always a nice place to chill. There was a Christmas parade today when I came and everyone was festive. Pretty easy to find parking either in many of the lots or on the street. Never had any issues here. Pretty good restaurants around.

Old Town Monrovia is a nice getaway from LA, not that far. It has that small town vibe in a good way. Your nice, regular Main Street with a historic, nostalgic air . Easy to find a spot and then, off you go! Nice one of a kind shops and restaurants, a nice theater, everything within walking distance. We like browsing the stores, enjoy a coffee and snacks at an indie coffee shop, slow down and relax. Cute and charming area, old fashioned in a good way, close to hiking trails as well, so sometimes we like to spend the day here and explore. Sometimes, stores close a tad early and restaurants aren't diverse enough. My only complaint. Otherwise, a nice area to explore and enjoy!

Went for a walk in old town, Monrovia on a very hot summer evening and funny enough there were knights and shining armor sword fighting in the park! Great for people watching. Lots of shops.

Old Town Monrovia is such a cute place to hang out! There are a lot of restaurants, ice cream and coffee shops. I've also noticed a lot of antique shops. I stopped by a few and those can be addicting. Architecture is beautiful. A lot of old buildings that are well preserved. There is a City of Monrovia Public Library with a nice park in front and a fountain and a lot of benches to sit and relax. I really liked walking down the Myrtle Avenue. I'll definitely come back soon.

Yes. There's a nice grass area surrounding the library, dog (low) water fountains (same area), and many of the restaurants have outside patio dining.

Most recently, it has been held in the infield of Santa Anita Park, the Arboretum, and since last year, the Paddock area of Santa Anita Park, which is the entry plaza to the racetrack. The Paddock area expands nearly the entire length of the Park's bleachers, with all the vendors set up in tents throughout the area. There were VIP and general admission tickets; VIP's were for tables of 10. The VIP's gained one hour early admittance plus access to a shaded area with tables, its own bar and restrooms. Regular folk made do with scattered standing tables, permanent Paddock benches and the racetrack's huge restrooms. Beyond the restrooms, you could get a peak at the racetrack and infield, with the beautiful mountains beyond. Note there is minimal shade; a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are advised. Everyone gets a swag bag, whose most valuable item was a plastic plate for holding all the food you'd soon eat. I was surprised how many hotels are in the area; all had booths, some with food. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience here at Rubel Castle. Our host, guide,…read moreand local "Rubelligent" volunteer, Ms. Kathleen had all the intel about this historical property. She was so knowledgeable and helped set the stage for us to slip into a forgotten era and get a glimpse of how imagination met inventiveness with a DIY charm. ~ A LITTLE BACKSTORY FOR YOU ~ It's not pronounced Rubel as Barney from Flintstones. Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. To book, visit RubelTours.org and make a reservation. ~ OUR TOUR EXPERIENCE ~ It's as if Michael Rubel, the creator and mastermind of this enchanted dominion had intended it to be--magical. Built in the castle period of wood and tin, every corner captured our interests, from antique cars to the 1890's Seth Thomas Tower Clock with a unique backstory (and only six in existence today). There were old vending machines, tools, trinkets, and machinery that time had long forgotten. Did I mention there was a drawbridge? Yes, and a dungeon too. I was just waiting for a dragon to come swoop down on us next. Walk in the footsteps of famous visitors like Alfred Hitchcock, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. That independent spirit was quite charming to see. ~ WATERCOLOR NATURESCAPE ~ We were fortunate to have our gracious host lead us on a tour and organize a special art crafting experience outdoors. It was absolutely lovely beneath the trees and between rusted vintage cars from the turn of the century. We each got a small canvas to paint our flowers in watercolor. (This particular experience takes place in the Spring and Fall, weather permitting.) We heard the squirrels rattling in the leaves and birds chirped and sang in the trees above. We discovered that peacocks apparently originated from this property, compliments of Michael Rubel. And did I mention that on the far side of the property, a custom garden was in full bloom? Thanks to the sheer persistence (and probably delightful stubbornness) of Michael Rubel, we now have this quirky, towering State Treasure sitting right in the middle of Glendora like a fairy tale that accidentally took a detour through a hardware store. This place is beautifully done, and part of its charm is that it's a full-on hodgepodge of relics, antiques, crystal trinkets, and "wait... what is that doing here?" moments tucked into every nook and cranny. You'll marvel, you'll laugh, you'll squint in confusion--honestly, it's everything you'd want in a castle built with love, imagination, and a dash of madness. And let's talk about the makeshift cemetery. Quirky? YES. Fun? Absolutely. Slightly spooky? Only if your imagination is over-caffeinated. But it fits the vibe perfectly--like the castle whispered, "You know what I'm missing? A tiny cemetery." The tours are fantastic, the guides are passionate, and the whole experience feels like you're stepping into a living scrapbook of California history and charming chaos. Overall: Amazing, amazing place. Book your tour. They only do tours every first Sunday of the month, so set your alarms, mark your calendars, tie a string around your finger--just don't miss it. Here, you'll see around 200 classic, street rods, rare restored cars and many believed to be one of a kind. This event is different from all other car shows I've been to, as in the cars on display had clocked many hours of labor & restoration, brilliant body kits and some talent to get them to this customized finish. You will not see mass produced rice rockets or Italian imports. To me, these are works of art. Some of these engines roar to life louder than Lamborghinis. The annual "Street Rods Forever" usually meets in early September. Some owners are approachable and like to talk about their cars. You can hear some fun stories or learn some history. This is a fun experience for guys, girls or families. I call this a car meet (instead of car show) because: 1) free entry. 2) no vendors aggressively pitching their junk. 3) no models walking arounf promoting vapes 4) no car maker respresentation, all owners. All that makes this event more relaxed, and you have access to plenty of restaurants & cafes to take a break. As these events are once a year, anyone interested should mark this on their calendars for next year (2014) or check out their website to learn more. Tips: * Easy parking within a block away. Free lots are nearby but check time limits. Ample street parking, but reduced during event peak, around noon. * Public park nearby in front of the library, and if you bring the kids...there's a playground behind library * No need to bring food, there's plenty of places to choose from * Check weather, Valley weather can get hot so bring sunscreen Thoughts: * City or car club should promote this much more to draw bigger crowds. Good for the local economy, and more people to admire the owners' cars.
