Great place in downtown Monroe to not only take a variety of art classes (pottery, painting, crafts), but they also have a curated gift shop representing local artists selling their hand crafted art pieces and home decor. read more

Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Monroe, Georgia is a haven for artists, art enthusiasts, and those looking for that one-of-a-kind special something. Emerging and professional local artisans alike showcase their work in this fantastic space. As an out-of-towner from a city known for its art, to say that I was highly impressed with both the quality and variety of mediums represented in the exhibition is an understatement. In fact, I was so moved by the passion and talent on display that I simply had to purchase one of the gorgeous oil paintings for my NC home. And, as an art appreciator, it was my joy to become a MWCA member. I can think of no better way to encourage visual arts in the local community than financially supporting those creative endeavors. Specialties

We are a community art center offering gallery shows, classes for all ages, Summer Art Camp, and special events. Our Artists Market Gift Shop features 80+ LOCAL artists' and makers' works. Original art, prints, photography, pottery, jewelry, glass works, toys ... even candles and local authors' books. Our classes include drawing, painting, pottery and creative writing. We also often offer specialty classes like knitting and other crafts. Girls' Night Out Painting Party is offered monthly. Our kid's classes start at age 6 and continue through high school. History

Established in 1993.

Started by a dedicated community of artists and housed in Monroe's lovely historic downtown district in a 1931 era Post Office, MWCA has stayed true to our vision of supporting the local arts, outreach to our community and education.

Meet the Manager: Hope R.

I'm Hope and started out here as a Board member. I have tons of experience as a volunteer and on boards of various non-profits. I've also started and managed a successful small business. I feel like all my life and work experiences have prepared me for this job! I love working here with the artists and creatives who are the engine to this place. I'm not an artist, though! And I love that our Center opens up the door of art to our entire community -- young and old, alike! Stop by and say "hi!" soon!

When I moved to Newton county I left behind a good arts center in Cobb county. I was looking for a place to take a pottery classes and found MWCA and so much more! The pottery class is awesome, everyone welcoming with all levels of potters. Rebecca has taught me so much and I've made new friends with my fellow potters. That's just the start! This wonderful place has so much to offer, art shows with local artist, Saturday soirées with good food, good people and good craft classes. The gift shop not only provides a place to pick up specials handmade gifts but is also an outlet to sell my craft as well. MWCA is the best place for finding and learning visual arts and literary arts. Gallery shows are well-suited for art lovers and collectors. There are always unique items in the gift shop to purchase for personal or gift-shopping. Classes focus on learning techniques, rather that just creating a product. The atmosphere is so welcoming, and the center engages in numerous projects benefiting the community that share the healing properties of art. They live up to their tag line . . . WMCA is one of the most delightful places one can visit. There are beautiful things to see and purchase. The classes are numerous and varied. Walton Writers meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm (currently on zoom). If you want to write, join this group.
