She did a cursory examination and pronounced that he was fine, except that he had a mild flea allergy. She gave him a steroid shot and sent us home. He in fact had a virus, which she would have known if she'd bother doing a blood test! We brought him home and he died. Our pet died due to this woman's incompetence!!! If you value the life of your pet, do NOT take it to this place! What that woman did should be criminal! I will forever regret that we listened to her, but she's a vet; she's supposed to know what she's doing, right? She's supposed to know what she's talking about. In fact she did NOT and we lost our pet as a result! Shame on her! She failed us in every way that a supposed professional can fail the people she's supposed to help. I called my vets emergency number and they told me they could refer me to emergency services in Decatur or Huntsville. I said Decatur because it was closer. I called them immediately, told them what was going on and asked if they could try to make her throw them yup. They said yes, so off we went. We got there close to 2 am. Everyone from the front end staff to the vet were great. Very caring, explained everything well, and gave me options along with estimated costs for each so I could make informed decisions. They got her to vomit, but not much came up and they could still see a lot of debris in her stomach. They suggested keeping her overnight and trying to flush everything through. They said if that did not work, surgery would be the next option. They called me Sunday morning and said the debris had not moved and felt surgery was needed so I gave the okay. Surgery went well and she is back to being my happy and healthy girl. I am very thankful they were there when my other vet was closed and saved my girl.

I got a quote of bloodwork to check his kidney levels because he's on phenobarbital for seizures. I was told because it was a year since he's been in he would need the exam also. I was quoted $124.00. She had his name, looked up his records etc. I confirmed $124.00. My husband just got back and they charged us a whopping $337.30. Flippin' ridiculous. Some BS about needing a different blood test because of his age, he just turned 6, to the tune of $172.50, more than the initial quote I was given. Needless to say we won't be back. We WOULD NOT recommend this place to anyone. I have talked to the dr and no refund will be issued for the absurd blood test that they deem important for the pets health. I'm the owner of said pet, I should determine what is of importance. They told my husband they would only issue one month of drugs without this blood test. Scam to get your money in my opinion.

On 08/09/2026, my 10 pound Shih Tzu went to our regular Banfield in Decatur, Al. I had to call,…read moreeven requested updates on my dog that was having a dental cleaning performed. When I picked them up, both were somewhat damp and reaked from dog funk, their leashes were wet. My dog appeared to be a little loopy and weak, which I expected. On Monday morning, my well trained dog had deficated , lumps of feces all over the house. I found him hiding on the side of the sofa, now covered in feces and what I thought was blood. After a bath, I noticed the feces is just running from him, he had no control of it. Within minutes he is pouring blood from his rectum, and it's not stopping. He at times strained to deficate, but only pushed out blood. My dog, my pet, my caregiver was a happy and healthy boy, when we entered those doors, I'm on day three laying on the floor watching him, praying God heals him. I have talked with one doctor who was NOT there when they tortured my dog, who offered to help by calming the gastric issues. I also received a call from a Dr. Nikki, who basically wanted me to understand the notes taken, and what they meant, which still sheds no clarity on why my dog is in extreme gastric distress, emotional distress, missing teeth, in pain and weak. I have repeatedly demanded my care plan be canceled immediately, care to repair my dog to be paid for by Banfield, from a vet of my choosing. I was told I would be receiving another call today 6/11/2026, with answers, I have yet to receive a call. I will continue to lay here with my dog, while I continue to fight those that caused him harm. Please do NOT take your pets to Petsmart, Banfield Pet Hospital in Decatur, Al or any of the surrounding areas.
