Two employees were at the door greeting customers and directing them to the proper stations and being sure they had the proper documentation, and to have it ready before reaching the service counter when my number was called. I appreciate this service. The information they require for a new Georgia license can be completed on their website. It stores it all in their system for 60 days. When you arrive you give the submission ID number to them and they simply pull it up. They then verify the documents you stated in the online form. In many of the states I lived in I would see quite a few people reach the service counter only to find out they didn't have the right documentation for the services they needed. I know this is ultimately on the end user to know before arriving by calling or visiting the website. But, it makes all of our lives easier not having to wait extra time for individuals who didn't bring the right documents. I was called up 8 minutes after arriving. I presented all my documentation, and submission ID number. The representative verified everything. I did a vision test on their machine (alcohol wipes provided to sterilize between customers) I paid my $32 (They take cash, and all major credit cards) They issue a temporary paper license, and said it would come within 45 days for the real license.

For as busy as they were, I was in and out of there within 30 minutes. Very smooth and easy process…read moreif you come prepared and do your paperwork online beforehand!

Get your photo taken - for FREE! I met my life long friends Fabian, Thor, and Reba here. After we left, we all got matching "DOT" tattoos to commemorate the day we all met. Just like me, they had camped out the night before to make sure we they got a good spot in line. Trust me - you don't want to get there late and take a chance of not seeing all the greats. Martha "Mugshot" Matheny snaps your photo. Carl "The Car Guy" quizzes your knowledge of road law. Rumor has it he was an extra in 'Mad Max'. Don't be fooled - you don't have to come to a full stop at a "yield" sign. Then there's "Road Rage" Randy. He will take you out on the road for your drivers test. Don't get him upset! The best though is "Blind" Betty. She does the eye exam and is quite the looker!!! She's really is a sight for sore eyes! Si! Se Habla espanol - but you're out of luck if you only speak German. In the Summer the AC is always cranked down, but be sure they keep the door closed so as not to let any air out. Don't forget your gear! Bring a sweater and rain jacket. Yes - a towel may be wise to pack as well. I was hoping there would be food trucks and entertainment for the kids, but you will have to make do with a vending machine. No drip or French press coffee. I heard rumors of a Starbucks going in 2020!! I'll be honest, this place is such a good time, that I'll throw my license out in the trash the day I receive it in the mail- just so I have an excuse to go back again!! See ya next year DOT crew!
