If I could, I would give not even one star.
Absolutely horrible. However, finding good service in France is almost impossible, unless you go to the very expensive and touristic places because France wants to keep its hypocritical image with rich foreigners and tourists.
BUT HERE'S WHY I GIVE SUCH A POOR REVIEW TO MONOPRIX: This is the letter I wrote to Monoprix Customer service today:
" Dear Sirs:
I went to a Monoprix store in the 18th arrondissement to buy food. I just arrived at the automatic self-paying machine, when one of the employees servicing the area upon request, came towards me, and without a word started to take my things from my cart and put them in front of the scan.
I didn't call for her, didn't need to. I am a computer builder and expert, and I can show them how it works, not the opposite.
Then I understood she did this only because either she thought I was too old - I have white hair -, or perhaps she fought I had stolen something only by the way I looked? Now, I am a white woman, very classy, wearing expensive clothes, and I look nothing like a bum.
I felt very insulted and told her so. I told her in English that if this happened in America, I could sue her for discrimination and moral distress. I saw that my speaking English to her made her even more nasty.
This is the second time they did this to me in one year in this chain store. It seems it is getting worse when you speak English.
Also, when they have many people, they rush me as if I were "a bag of potatoes" taking too much space. They leave the young men and women alone, even when they know nothing about these machines, and they leave the thieves alone, and people of all kind of ethnicity alone. But a person like me, a white woman, very distinguished, proud, very well dressed, speaking English, they subject to harassment and disgusting discrimination.
Because I complained and showed my anger they took their revenge by calling the guard upstairs where I have to go to exit the store, and he subjected me to even more humiliation, by forcing me to step aside and check my food cart as if I was a common thief.
Very tired and in a deep state of suffocation by these emotions they inflicted upon me freely, for no reason, I said I will return the goods right away.
They reimbursed me and I went back home trembling all over. So I stayed the whole week-end with no food. Unfortunately for me, this is the only store close by that carries some of the things I like. When I can, I go to other places but they are farther away. I usually prefer individual stores, especially for vegetable, fruits, meat and fish.
But in August I fell from a 2.20 m. ladder, and my back hurt tremendously (I hurt my spine). So I have no choice, for the moment, than to go to this store for food.
Now I am afraid to go. I am afraid of harassment again. This is something I will give to the American and other international news regarding the way your employees - perhaps it is a trait that comes with France? - treat people who look more fragile and give all permission to stronger men and women."
I let you all judge of the kind of welcome from stores we receive in France, when it is thanks to their customers that they keep their business open. But of course, there is no competition in France, and the government provides subventions to these companies, they cannot fire bad employees, and voila ! You have the res read more
