FOOD: My review is based on trying their baklava and sweet crepe with banana, strawberries, blueberries, and ice cream. Time and time again, these dessert places in Toronto disappoint me because they have no idea how to make proper crepes. They fail to use proper dough and other ingredients like they do in France - one place in the world where people know how to make PROPER crepes. Crepes at Monopol do not taste like real crepes. Their crepes have a rubbery texture. Baklava was pretty bad too, I'm not gonna lie. If they make it in-house, they should learn how to make proper baklava and if they order from a 3rd party, they need to sever ties with that supplier. Their baklava is way too sweet, low-quality, and uses cheap artificial syrup. They need to take a cue from Baklava King and start serving real baklava as opposed to a cheap imitation of baklava. While the presentation of food is great, there's little substance behind it. For a place that advertises so many varieties of crepes, they utterly fail to deliver on the promise of real crepes. It's a shame. SERVICE: Service was alright. I have nothing negative to say about their service. AMBIANCE: It seems like a place popular with local Greek and Albanian males who like to hang out in front of the main entrance. Inside, it feels simple. If I could summarize the interior, it would be "no frills." It doesn't feel classy or nice, it's just ok. The location is kinda weird for a cafe. If you're gonna go to a cafe with your date, pick a place on the Danforth. Don't go here.

Freddo Cappuccino

Newly opened cafe on Pape/Danforth. Think they're in their soft opening stage (menu was just written down) but they basically serve coffee and creepes. Got a Freddo Cappuccino to drink. Would have liked a thicker foam, and the bean was a bit bitter/sour, but the foam-to-coffee ratio was good. Also got the Monopol Crepe, which is a basic crepe with nutella, banana and chocolate syrup on top. I would definitely come back to try their other crepes because this one had just the right thickness for the crepe itself, and was bursting with nutella and very generous on the chocolate. So definitely spoke to my sweet tooth. Will be back once they have their full menu in place to try more of their sweet and savoury crepes.

Americano with milk.

The neighbourhood café serves up caffeinated beverages (coffee and tea), cold drinks (juice, sparkling water) as well as baked goods (muffins, cookies, quiches, scones). The café is bright and welcoming where the accent wall with the yellow wallpaper brings life to the space. There are a number of tables to enjoy your treats and beverages as well as wifi if you'd like to get some work done. The café uses Pilot Coffee beans as well. I stopped by Paper Route Café on a Monday late morning to grab a cortado. I also ordered a banana coconut oat muffin. The coffee shop only had a few customers and service was friendly where my coffee was made at a reasonable time. I sat down to enjoy my coffee as well as enjoy the space. As the sunlight filtered through the big windows at the front, the brightness of the café filled me with happiness. Such a cute wonderful place to spend some time alone, with friends, or with family. I ate the muffin later in the day for snack and it was moist and delicious with hints of coconut that didn't overpower the other flavours of the muffin. Overall, a great new addition to the neighbourhood! Definitely will become a new favourite among the locals for sure.

The small coffee shop primarily is doing take out only although they do have about 3 tables inside. They serve a variety of caffeinated beverages as well as baked goods. During their opening day, they were offering complimentary coffee. I stopped by Venom Coffee on their opening day after work ~4:30pm. I had followed them on Instagram and was aware of their opening. Upon entering, although the AC wasn't working properly but staff were extremely friendly and nice. I opted to get a complimentary iced Americano. Staff also stated that I could take home any pastries they had for free as it was end of day as well. I only opted for a butter croissant (that chocolate croissant looked good too - however, it was a hot day and I was not returning home just yet). Overall, friendly staff, great pastries, and good coffee. Do check them out if you are around the area!

I ordered an Americano, what I received was one of the worst tasting coffees I've ever encountered. It was weak , weak, weak so weak that my coffee turned white with a bit of cream. It honestly tasted like drip coffee from a cafeteria, no joke, just awful tasteless coffee. Super disappointed to be honest, as this shop is at the end my street and was hoping to have some great coffee in this area, this area has nothing oddly. But man this coffee was just terrible. Can't say I'd recommend or return. That grind they used must have been the size of pebbles as all it created was brown water. The coffee tasted stale too. If you open a shop that only serves coffee, you should really ensure you know how to make it properly. and that you use fresh beans. beyond disappointed.

We shared the Mango Bingsu, and it was huge--easily enough for the five of us. The flavor was a solid 9/10, super refreshing and delicious. If they had crispy corn flakes on top, it would've been a straight 10/10 for me. We also got two Dalgona Lattes, one with oat milk, and she differentiated them with the coasters, which was such an adorable touch. Now I need to go back just to try more drinks! Parking was free but a little awkward--spots are at an angle, and the plaza can get busy. But honestly, it's worth it. When we went, a few moms were catching up over bingsu, and it was such a wholesome vibe. Can't wait to be back and explore more of the menu!

Was happy to see they still carry the same menu items - especially my favourite injeolmi bingsu! (which I highly recommend). We tried the matcha croffle for the first time today. The croffle was nice and crispy and not too sweet. It was topped with matcha whipped cream(?), which was nice and light but feel as though matcha ice cream might have paired better. Service was friendly and quick as usual. There's free parking at the plaza, though a bit tricky to find a spot during peak hours (dinner-time to closing).
