Mono Space is a social listening gallery with a beautiful network.
What is a social listening gallery? It is a variation on a listening bar, with seating, an exotic sound system, a network of music selectors, and a network of listeners, you.
People stand, there are a few couches, riser platforms with cushions and soft stadium seats, and a soft lounge area in front with pillows in sizes. Many small conversation circles formed in front. The raw warehouse room, brick walls and ceiling, is painted out white, white curtains, and a new maple engineered floor. Plants. If you like, there are even cubbies to shed shoes. They have a bar with water and tea. No alcohol.
They have a unique hand built sound system. It is a Devon Turnbull of which about 5 are open to the public in the world. They played it at a low medium volume that allowed quiet conversations.
Their network includes Chess Club Books and Passenger Seat Records with tables at the event.
They have an event schedule, a few sessions a month at this writing. The crowd was lovely, happy to be there, chatting quietly, no one was showing off or trying to stand out. Young to old. Many groups of friends. Daytime vibe. Not a club vibe. Not flirty. Just people being normal. Like an art gallery, except it's a listening gallery.
When they have events, the door to the street is locked, they send someone to let you in. The staff I met were excited about the project and gracious. I heard they were requesting no pictures. That's a natural courtesy in a private space filled with people. So I'm only posting outside. They have inside pictures without people on their socials.
