I found a very drunk old man at the bar telling stories to his mate and now as I write this he is quietly humming to himself. The Bar staff are very kind and caring. The place is clean and tidy and the lighting is just as cosy as your lounge at home. In fact, this place is a converted house and surprisingly spacious with many large rooms. I'm currently sitting in a comfy seat next to a fake fire and I'm secluded enough for private conversation but open enough to look around the place. It also scores points for its slightly misleading name (see The Gower, The Roath Park etc.). It's kind of near Albany Road, but not quite near enough. It has cracking, and I mean cracking, cask beers. The marvellously moustachioed chap behind the bar knows his beer and he knows how to keep it and serve it. The lounge is a beautiful setting to get nicely sozzled in, all stained glass windows and low lighting. There's the beer garden that is, again, a beautiful setting to get nicely sozzled in. It has also has the bar where the lager drinkers are safely contained, content with multiple screens and two sky boxes. It even has a skittle alley. It has everything. Due to its location, this is a pub mainly populated with locals, rather than your standard student-filled pubs elsewhere in the neighbourhood. It tends to be the pub in the area where people congregate for large sporting events as it has a big screen on the back wall and lots of televisions dotted around. Obviously you'll have no luck in trying to change to a different game if Wales are playing any sort of a match, but it's always worth asking if the pub's quiet and people look disinterested in the game of choice. The former is signified by the large LCD TVs dotted around the bar and the large banners advertising both Sky Sports and ESPN. It also keeps the impact on your wallet to a minimum with Brains' Famous Five for £3.85 meal promotion, Fosters at £2.30 and Brains IPA at £1.85. There's a darts board, a standard It-Box and occasional live music. They also have some bizarre high seats from which only basketball players couldn't dangle their legs and feel like a five-year-old. But they do offer free Wi-Fi, making it an ideal location for a business lunch. The menu, however, remains its saving grace.
