What's not love? Well if you love animals of the monkey variety, which I sure do. this is just such a great facility. You can roam around the forest as do the monkeys although the pictures are a bit misleading, a monkey never came up to me once! I would love to have a one on one but we are told to stay a meter away for both out safety. The monkeys are amazingly well behaved and if they want to cross the path in front of you they will but cautious that they are off 'their home ground.' Hugely entertaining, our cheeky friends are always playing and if they're not doing that, they are grooming each other. Constantly. They clearly get fed well and you can watch the staff doing this if you time it right. At the same time they'll give a little talk (the staff, not the monkeys) and answer questions. It's amazing how 'house trained' they are in that they don't mind us humans roaming around on their territory. If I lived closer, I would love go to back each season. Spring is when they are having babies and we were lucky to witness 4 tiny things clinging on to their mums. In the Summer they will travel on their Mum's backs and I'd love to see that. Well worth the ticket price of around £7 and there is a cafe for lunch and refreshments so you can spend a good half day here. Beware of the lines in the tiny gift shop. We also had a line to get in even though we got there at the 10am opening but that was due to a fault with their credit card machine. So they lose a star on the facilities but it's 5 stars for the monkeys! read more

I've been coming here since it opened, they do excellent work reintroducing the monkeys back in to North Africa so that makes the cost even more reasonable. The monkeys are starting to give birth at this time of year, so you get to see some super cute babies too. I find on sure cafés in places like this rather uninspiring or overpriced, but this one is good considering, and there is a lovely picnic area which I'm always a far bigger fan of! The staff are lovely, and it's great for groups, families or couples, and it's all wheelchair accessible. East trip across to trentham gardens, the shopping village, garden centre and barefoot walk too. Always did find it odd though that they have an aerial extreme rather than a go ape though! read more

Monkey's were everywhere! Running across the paths, swing from the trees and fighting. Was brilliant! Admission fee wasn't much and it goes straight to the monkey's. There is a small cafe, shop and play area for the children. Only sad things was that adults could not keep control of their children and were often scaring the monkeys. read more

So I might be biased because I have a friend who works there and he was able to give me a tour, but honestly, as a monkey lover, I probably would have loved it anyways. It was REALLY cheap entry (only £6!) and you get to enter this amazing spread of forest grounds with Monkeys running loose! YOu can pretend you are on a jungle adventure without even leaving England. YOu don't get to touch the monkeys or anything like that, because they pretty much stay in their roped off areas, but it's better than a zoo because you can just see them hanging out, and they are watching you too. I think the best part of the tour might have been the fact that my friend told me all the "monkey drama" involving all the hierarchy, and overall sluttiness of the lady monkeys. but you can still just ask any of the people working there about it if you don't have the "inside scoop" like I do. read more

On Saturday the sun was shining and the birds were singing and everybody I knew were generally in a very good mood indeed. So with that in mind I was not going to spend my Saturday in the house so I rounded up my Mom, Sister and friend and we all went to visit Monkey Forest which is situated on the way to Stoke-on-Trent. We had an absolutely brilliant time there as it is a very enjoyable and educational place to be if you like monkeys that is. I will let you know why I recommend it fully for a day out. - What is Monkey Forest? Well it is a relatively new development in which they have taken a specific type of monkey which is the Barbary Macaques and they allow them to roam free in a 60-acre forest. You are free to walk around the designated walk ways and view the monkeys showing typical behaviours of what they do in the wild. Please bear in mind that the monkeys are not in cages as my Mom actually thought they would be and got a big shock when one walked right past her. There are 140 monkeys there including some delightful little ones and you are free to spend as long as you like there watching demonstrations and asking as many questions to the members of staff who are situated around the forest. It is a good walk and very enjoyable. - Where? Well you will find monkey forest at the following address; Trentham Estate Southern Entrance Stone Road Trentham Staffordshire ST12 9HR The website is http://www.monkey-forest.com I find it easy to find as it is well signposted before the turning and as it is just off main roads leading to Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire it is not to bad at all to find. - Parking: There is plenty of parking on site and it was full on Saturday because of the nice weather but we still managed to find a space very easily. There are staff there to guide you into spaces if you are not to confident at parking which I am not. I seriously do not think you will have a problem whenever you decide to visit. - Price: £5.50 for adults £5 for Students £4 for children Under 14 Under 3's go free. They do special rates for groups of people so you can contact them and ask what they can do for you. - Location: The forest is situated in a very nice area of Staffordshire which is called Trentham. It provides great links to Stafford and Stoke where you will find a whole host of other attractions. You do leave to the forest off a main road but when you go into the attraction you feel miles away from anywhere industrial or built up. The actual grounds that the forest are in are amazing and as you are walking through you feel like you are somewhere other than the UK. There are great views throughout and at one spot through the walkway you can see an amazing view of all of the tall trees and if you look hard you can see monkeys sitting at the top of them. Everywhere is signposted where you have to go so you can't go wrong and there is staff there at many sites around the forest to help. You can also walk to Trentham gardens from monkey forest which is very pretty and houses walks and a lot of craft shops. - The Monkeys: The monkeys are very cute indeed and on Saturday there was a good mix of older monkeys up to 26 years old and younger monkeys. In fact the youngest monkey we saw was a week and a half old and it was tiny. It is amazing to see these monkeys acting like they would in the wild and it is truly spectacular to watch and I could have literally spent hours staring at them. The older monkeys tend to ignore you and most of the ones we saw were either picking bits off each other or eating things out of the ground. They are used to the people walking around and will go on the paths next to you which is quite fun to see. At one point my Mom got scared as she was sitting down and something brushed against her leg. She screamed as she thought it was a monkey but it was actually a child but it shows how close the monkeys do come to you. The younger monkeys are just a bundle of fun and we spent ages watching them. The funniest thing we saw were two younger ones who were trying to jump onto a branch which was just out of their reach. They carried on until they decided to go for a longer branch. They are very naughty and it is just hilarious watching them. Seeing the real baby monkey was lovely and if you visit over the next couple of months there will be quite a few more around. - Educational view: Throughout the park there are many signs and questions on posts that are asked so you can really learn about these monkeys from what they eat, where they sleep to all of the faces they pull. We had great fun guessing the answers as I can imagine anybody would and I can imagine it is great for groups of children to do. They also do a feeding demonstration at the park where they will feed the monkeys in front of you and then talk about them and the forest. Have visited the Monkey Forest to see the Barbary macaques twice over the last two years. Loved it both times. It is wonderful to see them just wandering around and so close. They will literally walk just a few feet in front of you if you are in the pathway of where they want to go! Each time I have been around the Summer months, July 07 and the first weekend of September 08. Their babies are born in the Spring/early Summer and are too cute to miss! It is up and down hilly pathways but I managed pushing (or holding onto!) my nephews puschchair a lot of the way so it is accessible if you are confident you can hold onto them, if not there is a wheelchair accessible part. It is only one section that is quite difficult and as I had been there before this year I knew it would be OK. Entrance is reasonable at around £6 for adults and £4 for kids. Toddlers are free. It also has a nice picnic area and in the restaurant you can pick up sandwiches, jacket potatoes and other nibbles read more

Monkey forest is part of Trentham gardens, it is relatively cheap to get in and once you enter the enclosure the monkeys are free roaming, and there are plenty of staff you will often talk to you about the monkeys. There are loads of monkeys jumping about and walking in front of you. However it is not suitable for people who cant walk well as its very steep in places. There is also a cafe however it is way overpriced and not good quality. Dont expect a FULL day out here. read more

When I visited I thought it would be fantastic as it was something completely different and hadn't been done before in the area. It was during the summer when it had just been opened so it was peak season to visit. The car park is a bit rough but gives a pleasant walk (in pleasant weather) to the site itself - obviously not that convenient if you have very young children. The site doesn't provide a lot of entertainment for the children (as there is limited amounts of people around the monkey enclosure itself at any one time) which is needed waiting for your turn. Typical activities provided are trampolines and not much else worth mentioning. There are food and drink facilities available although be warned even in the blistering British heatwaves you are not allowed to take even water around the enclosure with you. The enclosure itself once you get past the Miss Trunchbull style wardens at the gates is only fascinating through its foliage. As you walk round attempting to spot a monkey (which if trying to distract a young, impatient child is a challenging task!) is very tiring. Fair enough you may not be able to guarantee the monkeys to be out on show when you want them to be, but the limited number doesn't give you much of a hope in hells chance of spotting one. You are able to get very close to them as they are not caged in and watch as they run past you as well as jump over you when they get the chance so not recommended for the faint hearted! It is a day out which provides children something different to do - but it wouldn't fulfill a days worth of boredom and definitely not worth the admission price for the limited facilities. read more

A fun day out, but with only having the one type of monkey makes it seem a little disappointing as this isnt made obvious anywhere in the advertising literature. The forest covers a large area of land, but isnt very accesible for anyone with mobility problems because of the steep gradient towards the back of the forest. As a nature walk its a very enjoyable experience because the variation of plants, trees, birds and mammals is quite extensive, and certainly adds a new dimension when you see a monkey being chased by a squirrel. The shop is a little expensive, bt the cafe looks good, and the young tell that the food was hot from the steam coming off it. Not as exciting as trip to the zoo, but a decent morning out for the kids. read more

Monkey Forest is certainly worth a visit. its quite a long walk around so wear comfortable shoes! there are feeding times and a bit od a talk at each and i would recommend trying to make one of these. The monkeys are not caged in and the can get quite close to you. some great photo opportunities. We went during possibly the most torrential monsoon i've ever seen so would just to saythe conservation hut if brilliant! There were plenty of us hiding under there! When it wasn't raining it was a very enjoyable experience. Most of the monkeys all stay in the once place, which kind of ruins the idea of finding the monkeys in the trees as you go aroundbut thats individual minds for you! The cafe looked busy, but we didnt use those facillities. The shop was well stocked but a little expensive. We went here during the recent October half term and absolutely loved the place and fell in love with the Barbary Macaques. This is such an impressive place where the now severly endangered Barbary Macaques are able to roam free in a very natural environment. You walk around with the monkeys just literaly feet away and we felt amazed to see them interacting amongst themselves as such close quarters, what a privilege for us! The staff are great, friendly, informative and you can tell they have a passion for these inquisitive beautiful monkeys. The prices are reasonable and you can also use Tesco vouchers if you collect them. The walk can talk as long or short as you want, we wandered and sat awhile at various points just watching them monkeys playing, feeding and grooming each other. There are little quizzes along the way which are fun for children and adults alike and the walk is pleasant and not too strenuous for those less mobile, though it does slope in places and i expect can be very muddy and maybe slippery in the rain. You are not allowed to eat or drink when walking in the monkey area but there are picnic areas out side the reserve and a nice enough cafe that serves drinks and snacks. There is also a room where you can watch informative films, toilets and a nicely stocked gift shop with lots of various monkey related items including the most adorable Barbary Macaques for you to take home! We are going back again in spring to see if there are any babies a fun family day out. read more

This is an AMAZING place to visit. The monkeys here are allowed to roam about as they would in the wild, and you are there just to observe and be in their world. There are no bars here, nothing to separate you from them. The monkeys themselves are friendly and playful, and will happily sit beside you on a bench, they're not scared in the slightest. Signs all around the park let you learn all about them, and it's fascinating watching them play fight with each other in the trees. We were lucky enough to go just after the birthing season and got to see the babies cradled in their mother's arms. For £6 this is a wonderful day out, children especially would be amazed. Priced at £6 for adults, £4.50 for kids with under 3s free - think we had a free enterance voucher from a staffs tourist guide, so was a reasonable day out. Monkeys are free to wonder about and there are plenty of guides around to answer any questions. They also organise talks throughout the day so you can get more information and ask questions. Kids are given an activity trail to complete, with info about the monkeys displays around the forest - also has a covered information area. Has good cafe and small shop. Two good childrens play areas - one for young kids and the other for the older ones. Good toilet facilities. Free car park. Its closed until 14/2 - all info is on their good website. I Love the monkey forest. The monkeys raom free and you get to see them as if they were in their own natural habitat. Feeding time is good because you get to see lost of monkeys in one place. It is a wonderful opportunity to get up close to such fantastic creatures. Parking is free and there is lots of it. The Monkey Forest is loacted a Trentham Gardens, which has lots of activities for all the family. From the Monkey Forest you can take a short walk past the lake to the retail village and garden centre, and also the Italian gardens if you want. There are also boat trips on the lake and a little train which runs along the lake for those who don't fancy the walk, also an ideal way to keep the kids entertained. read more

This makes for an amazing day out for anyone, especially animal lovers. The forest is surrounded by a security fence and inside there are hundreds of monkeys running around and just having fun for you to see. just visited here last week for my little ones 2nd birthday, we have been a few times before and always had a fab time. the walk around the monkeys itself is lovely, a nice smooth path leads you round a little mini adventure, there are snippits of information on the way round about the monkeys and guides at various points to advise and answer any questions. outside of the main forested monkey area there is a cafe and outdoor picnic area as well as a wood chipped park area and across hte way an older park area, toilet facilities are decent and there is a small educational hut. it's right next to the main trentham estate/ gardens/ shopping/ garden centre so you coul dmake a real day of it if you wanted to. read more

We go quite often when we are stuck for things to do. A better experience now theres a bit more for kids to do down in the reception area.

Good value day out for all the family. The monkeys aren'tin cages, so they are free to roam around right past you. You enter through a metal gates area into the enclosure. There are tall wire fences surrounding the enclosure so the monkeys can't escape, although you are free to walk around yourdself. There are several famileies of monkeys, and you mihght even see some territorial escapades between the monkey families. Take a camera! Guides are on hand to answer questions, and provide information.You can't take bags or food into the enclosure but there is a place to leave them at the entrance. read more

Monkeys walk around and eat and play without cages or barriers. In the monkey forest you can walk the paths which basically is one giant loop that brings you back to the entrance again. I highly recommend this place for bringing kids, you cannot touch the monkeys and they mostly stay in the feeding areas where the park attendants put food.
