Fabulous day, with a private Giraffe experience with our booking for my daughters 5th birthday. Absolutely fantastic, best experience whilst learning all about the conservation importance etc . Great informative keeper, very knowledgeable who had been there 26 years !! That shows a great place to work. Had afternoon tea overlooking the leopard enclosure. So much good fabulous spread and THE best tasting scones we've ever tried! Had to have boxes to take all the food home that we just couldn't finish. Amazing day with lovely people looking after and caring for the animals there. Thought the apes looked very sad and made us a little sad seeming them in the enclosures read more

A fun afternoon spent at the zoo is always a fun afternoon! Especially when you see giraffes trying to mate and all the little kids look horrified! We spent a few hours walking around the entire zoo and there were plenty of animals to keep my little guy entertained. The best part was the playground across from the gorilla sanctuary where all the little kids seemed to congregate. The highlight of the day was the Gruffalo section. It was just a series of animatronic animals and rooms with snippets of the cartoon playing but it was fun and passed the time well. Got hot dogs from the hot dog stand; although there was a restaurant on site... we just needed a quick snack and the service for it was quick and efficient. read more

I took photos of amazing animals such as Zebras, Amur Leopard, Nyalas, Dhole, Bush Dogs, Maras, Coatis and Meerkats. It would be nicer if the Striped Hyena and Snow Leopard are more visible though. The zoo is not too crowded and I attended some educational talks there. It doesn't take long for me to get there and back, I hope to visit again. Pics may be added later. read more

I have been here twice with my school. The students absolutely love it. We had the opportunity to attend the educational talk. The speaker was very knowledgeable and the students interacted with a cockroach and a chinchilla. The Zoo hosts a wide range of animals including the wonderful Bonobos. It's a great day out. Price is on a par with similar attractions. It is easy to get to, the parking is free and well managed. Lots of animals - with a 3 year old and a 4 year old we didn't manage to get around the whole park. The gift shops have a good selection, and the children loved the train! Food is a reasonable price, but there are lots of places to sit and take your own things too. read more

Twycross zoo has been somewhere i have visited as a child and as a adult and always loved it. The gibons are definitley aworth a visit and make so much noise they will have you in stitches. There is a park attached which has rides for really young toddlers and up to teenagers. The cafe provides homemade cooking for a proper meal or sanwiches and snacks. Not cheap so be prepared but always have a good selection. The giraffe enclosure is great too and the elephants are fed regularly in which you can watch their display. There are definitley more monkeys than anything else! A nice day out for all the family. read more

One of my favourites! Monkeys, Monkeys everywhere! A great set up and a family run business. The animals are looked after really well here- you can see that by their relaxed and cheeky manarisms! Kids love it here- the grounds are very open and there is lots to see and do. The best features are the orungatans and the mountain gorillas- They are so inquisitive and will sit their for ages starring and mimiking your actions. A really great set up and you struggle to do it all in a day- great value for money! read more

Twycross has a great selection of animals and loads of different monkeys! Giraffes, monkeys, elephants, many owls, lions, leopards, penguins, flamingos and tons more. I really enjoyed the borneo exhibit when we went. There is a large cafe and a play park for the kids. read more

This place has and probably always will be a fab day out. The zoo is one of the best. The let down however was even though it wasn't to shut till 5:30, by 4 there was nobwhere you could buy a drink/ice cream/snack, which was not ideal. they should keep all snack kiosks open till at least 15mins till closing time. We went once before in the autumn, with no animals out and everywhere looking dingy. But went back in the spring this time, and what a transformation! The primates are the obvious attraction here - enclosure after enclosure of different varieties of monkeys, apes, chimps, gibbons (including, for those anthropologists amongst us, the bonobos) - the small monkey house is great for kids. But the giraffes and elephants are magnificent, and the seals and penguins are great to watch at feeding time. There's also a rainforest tour, where you can walk through a tropical area amongst free-climbing fauna: including (my favourite) tree sloths. An excellent day out for the family. read more

A very enjoyable family day out here. Loads to see and it's really well set out. The highlight is the range of moneys they have there which caused my kids to squeal in delight as the monkeys leapt around their cages. There is loads of space so you don't feel crowded or hemmed in. The zoo for primates in the midlands, just a few miles off the A5. It has been opened for over 25 years and is open all year round save Christmas day. Besides the primates, see the reptiles and amphibiens, the birds and mammals. The zoo is easy to reach, there is a large car park and as expected is very accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs. Family tickets just below £30, cafe and souvenir shop available on site. A nice family venue if this is your kind of thing. read more

twycross zoo is about 20 minutes from nuneaton and we take the children probably once or twice a year. the staff are always really nice and the place is always clean. the only problem is the canteen is a tad expensive and some of the animals looked miserable , however i would expect that! we will go again and again read more

This is an excellent attraction. Its reasonably priced but better if you can get money off coupons. They have an excellent variety of animals and the information available at every enclosure is both educational and interesting. There is food available on the park but can be expensive and the queues are long so probably better to take a picnic, as there is a picnic area in the middle of the park although you can smell the elephants if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction. The park puts on animal shows the best one in my opinion was the sea lions, the kids love it and the entertainment factor is brilliant although it wont be the same now without Joe the Gorilla, RIP Joe. read more

Been here a few times, makes a lovely day out for the family. The food avaliable is not up to much (and expensive, of course) so I would recommend taking your own snacks. Alot of monkeys, infact if you see an animal, it's a monkey of some sort. All in all..not a bad way to spend your day. read more

Twycross zoo is right near where my grandparents live and every year for my birthday I would ask if we could go to twycross zoo and we usually did! I always loved it and its multitude of monkeys and especially the elephants which are my favorite animals. This was my favorite place ever as a kid and still is, I would return and visit any chance I got. I would definitely recommend this for a family outing in summer it is thoroughly enjoyable. read more

Twycross zoo is a pretty big zoo. Lots of animals to see including monkeys,elephants,tigers and more.The prices are pretty good. You can watch animals been fed. You can take a picnic or go to one of the many cafes around the zoo. Toilets are also dotted around the zoo. read more

I visited Twycross Zoo with my friend and her children early autumn. The zoo isn't cheap but we had some Kellogs discount vouchers. I wasn't particulary impressed. Being a fan of monkey world and other parks with large areas for animals to roam but pretty upset to see large beautiful creatures being kept in not very large enclosures and cages. You could see the distress as far as I was concerned in the repetitve behaviours such as walking back and forth on the same path by some of the animals. I wouldn't return and wouldn't support this type of organisation. To be honest the kids were not that impressed with the park and the animals and commented themselves about the pacing behaviours. They far more enjoyed the little 'fairground' attached to the zoo although you had to purchase additional tickets to do any of the rides. read more

I was looking for some attractions that could be visited during a holiday to the Peak District and came across this zoo. Always on the lookout for a bargain I then found out how to get some vouchers to reduce the cost of the visit. When we visited it was during the Scottish school holidays so were fortunate that the place was realtively quiet. The zoo is well laid out and relatively flat so easy walking. The highlights for us was the feeding of the sea lions and the giraffe enclosure as the animals were inside and we could get fairly close. There are a large number of monkey enclosures which are always good to watch. All in all a very good and worthwhile day out especially if you can reduce the admission price. read more

I went to the zoo today, accompanied by a couple of friends and their 2 year old, for the first time in over 20 years . Frankly, I was disappointed. Twycross has a big reputation that, for me, turned out to be totally misplaced. Yes, they have a good mix of animals, though none of the 'big cats' except for a sleepy snow leopard or two, but the general layout seemed pretty disjointed and many of the animal enclosures were something of a shock. Monkeys swinging around in cages that were much too small, gorillas and orangs meandering about in very uninspiring arenas that were also clearly much too small and in which many of them looked pretty unhappy. A poor sea lion was swimming aimlessly around in circles while the gorillas had nothing to do other than walk around in circles with the occasional ascent of a climbing frame to break the monotony. One gorilla, clearly very unhappy with the crowds of people staring at him, charged one of the glass windows surrounding his compound, frightening several children as he tried desperately to impose some domination over the proceedings. To my mind, none of the birds had anything like enough room in which to move except, perhaps, the chickens. Of course, many of the smaller animals seemed less perturbed by their surroundings the meerkats were just as endearing as they are on television, for instance, and seemed quite happy in their enivronment, though those in the childrens' 'Pets' corner' were hardly in a natural environment or very active. The giraffes had little room in which to exercise thier long legs, while the elephants, creatures used to roaming over hundreds of miles, were confined to a wholly inadequate, if nice looking, compound. Little Alex did enjoy himself. He saw a variety of animals that he wouldn't otherwise have seen in the flesh and gained some understanding of their real size. He loved the monkeys and apes, the elephants, penguins and meerkats; what he didn't get was the slightest idea about the natural environment in which such animals should be living and usually do. As a child in the 1950s and 60s, I was a fairly frequent visitor to London Zoo and I would say that today's Twycross shows far too little improvement in conditions over what London provided in those far off, and now unacceptable, days. The childrens' area, where there were a couple of rides and other attractions, was, in all honesty, a bit of a mess and a pretty major let-down. It wasn't too expensive as days out go and there are plenty of places to have a 'cuppa' or buy a snack; parking is free, which is always good news. The entrance hall was better approached with closed eyes and traversed very quickly in order to avoid the vast array of somewhat pricey soft toys and other merchandising. Would I go again ? Possibly, but I'd be more inclined to look further afield to somewhere where animals can be seen in a more natural, and happier, environment. As a basic introduction to a range of animals, Twycross just about suffices, but otherwise it does little more than torture some magnificent animals. read more

I visited Twycross with my 6 year old. He had never been before. The last time I went was about 9 years ago with a 3 year old. The zoo has improved a little since then. I remember it being a small area full of monkeys and a crowded reptile house. It still focuses on primates but there are quite a few other animals. I was surprised at the small size of some enclosures. We saw most of the animals at the zoo but the layout was quite messy. There are different trails which can be followed. This is OK but there is no real sense of order if you want to see everything. I also thought it was a little expensive. We paid full price including the voluntary donation and were not given a choice about this. Admission prices are not displayed anywhere either so I had a bit of a shock when asking for 2 adults and 1 child, I was asked for £39. The zoo has some interesting features and there are some things you can see in the large Himalaya entrance. This part of the place is free to get in and from there you can see the snow leopards through the window. I also liked the ant colony in the mirrors of the toilets. We were disappointed at discovering that you need to be issued with a ticket for the reptile house as it is only guided tours now. This is all very well but there is no information until you actually get to the reptile house that this is the case. So we missed out on that. There is a small section of rides for younger children which is included in the ticket price. This is all very well but the rides (apart from the train) are not suitable for children over the age of about 7. There are a couple of play areas but, again, not suitable for older kids. We had a hot drink in one of the cafes. There are a few cafes/eateries but I think two of them were closed when we went. The prices are about normal. I think three hot drinks cost me about £6. We also had a look in the gift shop but, like a lot of gift shops, it sold useless stuff, coloured stationery with the zoo's logo on it and over-priced toys. We didn't buy anything from there. To be honest, while it was better than I remember it, it's still not that good. It's OK for young kids if you live locally and have some time on your hands but it's really not worth going out of you way for. read more

i've been going here since i was a child and now i take my kids.it used to be quite a small zoo but has grown into one of the largest in the uk.easy access from motorway networks.open every day except christmas day.all the animals are very well cared for and have breeding programmes for some rare species.lots of schools come here for trips,and its important that this zoo has plenty of visitors as it relies entirely on visitors funding.i just love to see all the monkeys swinging about!there is a small restaurant,but we like to take a picnic. read more

Brilliant day out and value for money. Take a packed lunch with you and make a full day out of it or buy food there from the various food outlets. Suits all ages and you get up close with many different kinds of animals who are roaming free. If you love monkeys etc this is the one place you will see the most monekys under one roof as such all in their own space and environment, with so many different varieties. Great day out and photo opportuinity for all ages. Definitly better to visit in the summer as it is practically all outside and a lovely chnace to sit on the grass and enjoy each others company. read more

I love it because it has all of the great apes. Its a fantastic zoo for people who like monkeys and apes. Its is one of the few zoos that has bonobos and a large troop of chimps and a primate nursery. I got to hold a baby orangutan in a nappy!! read more

Had a fabulous Bank Holiday Monday there. The animals were gorgeous and active. The parking was well-managed. There was a small variety of food and not too badly priced. The gift shop wasn't a rip off either with the children being able to choose something small without it costing the earth. read more
