I'm really such a fan of it here. I've been for walks, bike rides, picnics, all sorts at all times of the day. It covers acres and acres in beautiful heathland and forest, with all sorts of wildlife, possibly most notably deer, some claim to have seen black dogs and ghost girls and escaped pumas and wild boar too. The centre is great, with classes, den building, pond dipping and all sorts of similar classes in summer, plenty aimed at children and adults, trekking centres on horses, go ape- both the high ropes course and the forest segway activities, a play area, and the bike tracks people travel across the country for, follow the dog and the monkey for trails, and stile cop for downhilling, and those are just the purpose built ones! There are different little lovely walking/picnic places too, like the stepping stones for example, and there are miles and miles of tracks. It's also great for star gazing, staffs not having big towns or cities means there isn't a great amount of light pollution, just watch out for the deer and the doggers! Cannock Chase Forest is an absolutely gorgeous nature reserve in the heart of Staffordshire, the smallest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK. It covers several miles in the middle of Staffordshire, and is covered with trees of every description, as all good forests are, but it's known for its large collection of pine trees and a large heath. It's popular with all sorts of group -- mainly bicyclists, especially adventure cyclists. There are huge drops and hills for BMXers, but also gentle paths for family trips or more leisurely rides. It's a great place for hiking or even leisurely strolling. Parking can be a little bit of a challenge, but if you know where to go (suggest using sat nav), it's easy enough. They often have live music acts and events for families. Keane is set to play there this summer, though I'm not sure of the date. It's a really fantastic place to go and enjoy the sun, should it choose to visit Britain. read more

Cannock Chase is a very nice place right in the heart of Staffordshire. It is a place of natural beauty and is great for walkers, cyclists, picnickers and basically everybody who appreciates some lovely green every now and again. I now live right by here and I am appreciating every minute as it is one of those places that you can have a nice time if the weather is warm or cold. I have been coming here for years so I will try and get over to you now how lovely it actually is. The address of the centre is as follows; Cannock Chase Visitor Centre Marquis Drive Cannock Chase Hednesford Cannock Staffordshire WS12 4PW If you have not been to Cannock chase before then this is the best address to use as it will take you to a sweet centre which contains a small café and parking area. The location of Cannock chase is great and because it is so huge you can choose the areas you wish to be by. For instance Cannock and Stafford are very close to different areas of the chase. Plus it is pretty easy to find from anywhere in the West Midlands really as everybody should know where to find Cannock chase. Now for parking it is great as there are so many spaces available. As the chase is so huge, there are different areas where you can park so you should have no problem. By every area you will see other people as it doesn't seem to matter which day of the year you come, people always love to come to the chase. In terms of walking there are so many routes you can choose and you can even get maps from the visitor centre. When you are following a route though, there are signs dotted about so that you can make sure you are still going the right way. There are challenging routes and long and short routes so something for everyone. You will see lakes, ponds, hills and so much beautiful countryside you will fall in love with the place when you have visited. This is the perfect place for people to come and walk their dogs. Although a lot of people come to the chase, you can walk your dog for miles and not see another person. It is such a big place and so peaceful that you can truly get away from it all when you come here. Dogs are happy to be walking and owners are happy to have nice, stunning trails to follow for as long as they wish. Dotted around a lot of the trails are places for you to have a rest and there are picnic tables around so you can have a nice countryside picnic which me and my friends have done this year and it was lovely. For cyclists, Cannock chase is just as much fun. There are something like ten trails around that you can choose from and again some are challenging and some are easy so something for everybody which is nice. I believe they do rent bikes at the centre if you need them but a lot of people do take their own. Cannock Chase is absolutely gorgeous to visit and is one of those places that so many people visit again and again. The chase attracts so many visitors and once you have been it is easy to see why. I love it there and it is a nice place to go on your own or with friends. I like it that you can spend a whole day there or just visit for a few hours, it is your choice. An oasis in the heart of a metropolis. Cannock has undergone a massive facelift over the last 20 years, it has changed from a coal mining town to a modern town with all mod cons. The biggest change was the Northern relief road which has changed access to the North and South and has made travelling so much easier. Cannock chase is a historic forest which is steeped in historical sites, from the Roman fort at castle ring to the German & Katyn war memorials. There are lots of wonderful walks and several cafes, resturants and pubs around the outskirts to refresh a weary walker. The only thing to be aware is that because of foresting the footpaths to have a habit of being moved making older maps a little confusing. I can totally recommend a visit and you should start at the visitors centre as mentioned by a previous reviewer. If you have a wheelchair there are some accessible paths, again checking at the visitor centre for advice is recommended. Cannock Chase Forest - Parks Near Me - Cannock, STS

we went and walked our dog here at the weekend and we had a fabulous time, and so did the dog, the terrain was not to rugged and the paths were well laid out so it was a nice easy walk. We foubd the old quarry, which has now turned into a bit of a lake, would also be ideal for mountain biking as the tracks are really well maintained. Our highlight of te day was when we saw 2 stags fighting each other, i love going and seeing animals like this in there own natural environment. read more

The most amazing place of natural beauty local to us. Our children love the park at Marquis Drive and as a church we often hold barbeques there.
