And I have not yet talked about all structural advantages (for working parents): warm school lunch, pre- and after school in one building, swimming lessons and the flexible vacation scheme. First, let me say that I had zero experience with singing, as in, I had literally never sang before (except around camp fires when I was a teenager!), so I am a total beginner. Well, Claudia could totally deal with that! I found her online as I was searching for private singing lessons in Amsterdam. I liked the fact that not only is she a professional singer, she's also a PhD student in musicology and her research focuses on teaching - so I could trust her teaching skills! We had a first meeting to discuss what she had to offer, her teaching methods, the goals that I had, and just get to know each other. And then: that's it baby, now you sing! :s :s As a total beginner, I have everything to learn. We started with theory - but even theory was always applied and we did lots of exercices to understand how everything works in your body when you sing. I really, really love the fact that she focuses so concretely on what is happening within your throat, mouth and lungs, rather than use some weird metaphors!! She really knows what's going on, she has an incredible ear and can always tell you what you're doing (consciously or not!) and then guide you very specifically to improve your technique. She's also so dynamic and enthusiast, always encouraging and pushing you to go beyond what you think you can do! Then I picked a few songs that I would like to sing, and she also continuously proposes new songs, so it's always varied and you don't get bored with singing the same thing over and over. I also totally love that we do all kind of styles. It's Claudia's conviction that everyone can learn how to sing every style and that we should be able to choose which style we'd like to sing, once we understand the differences and the different techniques. It's really fascinating to find out what you can do with your voice!

I found out about this School via a Dutch expat web site. The School had an event listed offering a…read morefree trial Dutch language class and one of the lucky attendees would win a free 8 week class as well. The school was located just under 15 minutes walking distance from my apartment, so decided to register and come check it out. Once you are at the building, go thru the lobby area to a common room towards the back, sign in and grab some coffee or tea as well as nibble on the cookies they've set out and basically mingle with the other folks who have come along for the free trial class as well. Btw, the location of the introductory class is actually a local college and they are pretty prompt because once 6:45pm rolled around, we got divided into groups of 12 and went off with individual teachers to a classroom located on the 3rd floor of the school building. Our teacher was the lovely and enthusiastic Veerle, and I really enjoyed her teaching style as well as the lesson and the multiple opportunities to practice my Dutch language skills with the other folks in my free trial class. Veerle had an easy-breezy style that made it fun and inspired me enough that the next morning I downloaded Duolingo, an app I had been meaning to a download for a while but hadn't done so yet. After about an hour and 15 minutes of our lesson, we made our way down back to the lobby area and the winner of the free class was announced (wasn't me!! :-) and it was all really very well planned and informative. The location of their actual classes is also just down the street, but they use the school building for these events as it's got more space. I need to look at their brochure and website to see if the timing of the language classes will work for me, (and if I do enroll, will come back and update my Yelp review) however can absolutely recommend coming for the free trial class they offer. I enrolled for a week of intense, private lessons (I was unable to sign up for any group classes as…read morethere were none being offered the week I wanted to start). My instructor, Christiaan, was highly qualified; he had a Master's degree. He used a variety of techniques to learn Dutch--we discussed topics, we had to present one side of a debate, and we had to draw/describe our house floor plan, among other methods. It was stimulating and the instructor was very enthusiastic. They also provide field trip opportunities and social gatherings to practice your Dutch. The program/experience was great and really helped me achieve my goal.

Along with my husband and another couple, went to see a comedy performance by easylaughs last night…read morein the CREA Cafe in Amsterdam. We missed the 8 pm performance completely because of general lateness, but arrived just in time to purchase a few beers in the cafe and grab seats for the main show at 9 pm. The format of this improv performance involved five "art directors" who each introduced a movie concept for the audience to vote on and alter with random suggestions about location and objects. The actors performed scenes from each movie concept, and the audience continually whittled down the five concepts by voting for their favorites, until there was just one final movie left that won the show. The price was right (€10 for both the 8 and 9 pm shows), the actors were talented and genuine, the crowd was relaxed, and the cafe next door served as a great place to grab a drink between scenes and after the show. I would highly recommend this event to others and will definitely try to see their shows again. Overall, this is a very good alternative to Boom Chicago. ;) And in a very different part of town, which is nice. Bravo easylaughts! PS - they can't take a PIN card, so bring cash!!

I've taken 2 classes here and both times the teachers have been pretty good. Lunch is also provided for "free" and you get vouchers to go to La Place in the shopping center right next to where classes are held. If you take a virtual training (one of mine were) it is not so bad but the connection is not the greatest and goes in and out a few times per day. The coffee provided comes from typical machine that mixes coffee powder with hot water so not the greatest but is is nice that is free.
