However, after driving to South of France for the holidays I decided that I wanted to get my Dutch license. So I did a little research and this is what I found out. "You can swap your license if you are from the EU, the EEA, Switzerland OR are from a country with a special agreement or you have the 30% ruling. Americans can not swap their license for a Dutch one. Have to do the theory,practical and register with a driving school." So, I made an appointment for my Dutch license through this driving school. Talk about back to the basics. When I first found out that I could not swap my American license for a Dutch one I was truly disappointed. I could not imagine going back to driver's ed and learning all the basic rules of driving all over. So, I lucked up on on this driver ed company website (alldrive.nl) which I found out when I had to start from scratch when it came to preparing for my Dutch license in the Netherlands. I am a fan of this company because the prices with this driving school is as good as it gets in Amsterdam! A few of my Dutch friends were surprised how reasonable the prices were for the practical and theory. This company is probably the best source to go for information when it comes to preparing for your theory and practical. I even bought a book from them, so I could be prepared for the theory exam at CBR. The only disadvantage is they only drive with a stick shift, which was a big one for me because I only knew how to drive an automatic. Most of the cars in Europe are stick shifts. Talk about going through life changes.Well I am happy that I lucked up on this company because they seam the best. Also, they speak English and Dutch so I thought that was a plus being the fact that I am an expat.

A very entertaining and productive course. I took the intensive four hour a day, two week course…read more- we had two teachers, one in the morning and one in the evening, two teachers with different styles but both a lot of fun and very responsive to the specific pupils in the class. I took their second level class. By the end of the first week, I had gained enough confidence and sentence patterns to be able to actually function for the first time in Dutch for simple things like buying in stores - I was impressed. Highly recommended!

I've been taking singing lessons with Claudia for a couple of months now and I have to say it's…read moreeven better than I thought it would be! First, let me say that I had zero experience with singing, as in, I had literally never sang before (except around camp fires when I was a teenager!), so I am a total beginner. Well, Claudia could totally deal with that! I found her online as I was searching for private singing lessons in Amsterdam. I liked the fact that not only is she a professional singer, she's also a PhD student in musicology and her research focuses on teaching - so I could trust her teaching skills! We had a first meeting to discuss what she had to offer, her teaching methods, the goals that I had, and just get to know each other. And then: that's it baby, now you sing! :s :s As a total beginner, I have everything to learn. We started with theory - but even theory was always applied and we did lots of exercices to understand how everything works in your body when you sing. I really, really love the fact that she focuses so concretely on what is happening within your throat, mouth and lungs, rather than use some weird metaphors!! She really knows what's going on, she has an incredible ear and can always tell you what you're doing (consciously or not!) and then guide you very specifically to improve your technique. She's also so dynamic and enthusiast, always encouraging and pushing you to go beyond what you think you can do! Then I picked a few songs that I would like to sing, and she also continuously proposes new songs, so it's always varied and you don't get bored with singing the same thing over and over. I also totally love that we do all kind of styles. It's Claudia's conviction that everyone can learn how to sing every style and that we should be able to choose which style we'd like to sing, once we understand the differences and the different techniques. It's really fascinating to find out what you can do with your voice!
