The office and the entire center is very clean and well kept. The individual at the front desk was extremely courteous and made me feel welcomed right away. The lady assistant introduced herself and told me she had worked for the doctor for 30 years. That in itself was impressive and gave me the feeling that this must be a pleasant atmosphere in which to be a part. She explained what they would be doing, step by step. She made me feel like family and set me at ease right away. The doctor then entered, introduced himself, and visited a moment before beginning the exam. The place was extremely upscale and all his staff was friendly and professional. Dr. Trettenero was very pleasant, friendly, and made me feel comfortable and at ease right away. He then asked the assistant to get the X-rays needed. This office was equipped with what seemed to be the most updated technology necessary for any situation. The X-ray machine was amazing, like nothing I had ever seen. It only took moments and we were done, back into the room for review. Dr. Trettenero sat with me, explaining what we saw on the monitor. There were 3-dimensional rotating views, and views showing layers of each upper and lower. And all turned out better than I imagined. No cavities, I just needed an adjustment to align my bite. Afterward, Dr. Trettenero cleaned my teeth and said all looked good, I'd been doing a good job. He was very gentle while doing the work, and cleaning was the easiest I ever experienced, anywhere. When I arrived, I again said I was there for a dental cleaning only, No xrays and No exam. The receptionist said yes, barely speaking English. Abysmal experience…read more I came in with severe tooth pain expecting a wisdom tooth extraction. During the exam I was told a different molar was infected and needed extraction. No dispute there. The issue was what happened next. Instead of being scheduled for the extraction, I was handed off to a treatment coordinator (not a dentist) who presented a large, expensive plan for that same tooth: implant, custom abutment, crown, bone graft, sedation. All pitched with urgency, as if I had to commit to every cent of it that day. When I asked directly if it all had to happen at once, I got a vague non-answer from someone not qualified to speak to what's actually medically necessary. More pressure and pitches for credit products. I became visibly upset. No one paused, checked in, or offered a simpler option. It felt like pressure, not care. I left without scheduling further. If you're in pain and seeking urgent treatment here, know that they will not clearly separate what's medically necessary from expensive elective add-ons. Get a second opinion before committing to anything. I got several afterward and found an independently-owned practice that treated me like a human being, not a revenue target. Everything getting shittier and more expensive around you? You can usually trace it back to these sorts of private equity backed firms. Might not be accurate to say PE here. But, Pacific Dental Services (the DSO in question here) has raised billions in outside capital, so functionally it reads the same to me. Update: The dentist, Ravi Patel, when I saw him, told me explicitly "Look, I'm not going to prescribe an antibiotic, because it won't do anything", setting up the urgency for the $6000 they wanted me to come out of pocket for. I am currently awaiting further treatment from another dentist. I got an antibiotic to manage infection while I wait for appointment date. What do you know? The pain I am experiencing has been reduced by orders of magnitude, and now I don't have to be in agony for multiple days while awaiting extraction. I sincerely hope that at some point, when this particular dentist is going through some personal suffering/pain, that someone seizes on that pain and uses it cynically as a token of coercion, as he attempted to do to me. The absolute scummiest interaction i have ever had with a medical professional of any kind. Hands down. TL;DR Seek independently owned dental offices. This place will treat you like a walking dollar sign.
