This is a bit of a long story, so bear with me, but I promise you'll understand the purpose of my email by the end of it. I was coming from Scranton, PA, US, for three weeks to Vaughan, Ontario, and I had a car packed full of stuff. I left at 7am, and was at the border around noon. It was there that I discovered.....
I lost my wallet on the journey, and the likely place was TWO hours back into New York, and an hour searching fruitlessly at a rest stop, then two hours back to the border. I contacted my spouse, who wired me some money via Western Union, since all of my cash and credit cards had been lost. At this point, I was hot, sweaty, tired, and stressed out, especially since my car's air conditioning had given up as I set off from the rest stop. It was six thirty at night. I had no phone service except for WiFi at the hotel, so I set off to pick up my money from the local WalMart. I got lost, the line was long, and no one knew how to use Western Union there, so I was passed off from one associate to another until eventually they gave up and told me they couldn't help me. At 8:40pm.
I looked up the next closest Western Union location, and MoneyMart popped up. Knowing they close at 9pm, I was in quite the rush to get there.
When I did, like the most merciful angel imaginable, Salena was there to greet me. She was confident we could get everything straightened out, and was sympathetic to my admittedly whiny story. She even went so far as to call WalMart to get them to cancel out of the half-finished transaction they'd started so she could complete it. She was kind enough to stay until everything was handled and she counted out my money for me.
I may not be a regular customer, and in fact I may only use MoneyMart a few more times (until I get replacements for my credit cards), and we may not even have MoneyMarts in the US for all I know. But I do know this - if ever there was an example of a helpful, caring, professional, and personable employee, especially one who remains so when a bedraggled stranger bursts through the door ten minutes before closing, it is Salena. She did everything in her power to give me an exemplary service experience, and I am so grateful.
I will never forget the relief I felt when she confidently assured me "We'll get it straightened out." and promised I wouldn't leave without my transfer. Alone and facing three weeks with no cash, credit cards, or even my health insurance card, her confidence and professionalism were exactly what I needed at that moment to reassure me everything would be okay. read more
