I can remember a time when Monarch was a new agency and very one-on-one with its employees. They really came through for me at a time when I needed work. Then I left them to go back to school for a few years. After I finished school, I came back to them for work. That was a few months ago, and thus far I've had no job placements from them, nor any kind of follow-up.
Monarch has become very impersonal now that they've grown and branched out to numerous offices in the Delaware Valley; accordingly, they treat their applicants as commodities rather than as unique human beings with talents and skills to offer the work force. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA, so they're probably avoiding me because my brain not only intimidates them, but also makes them fear that I'll ask for too much money.
Temp-to-perm is a lie. They say that to hook you in, like all temp agencies do. The assignment they give you is disposable, a job that will cease to exist as soon as the assignment is over.
Also, they post direct-hire jobs on their web site, but you don't respond to the company that's hiring. What you do instead is send your resume to one of Monarch's reps. You're supposed to believe that Monarch will forward your resume to the company, but how can you be sure that this will really happen if you're not sending your resume directly to that company? In all likelihood, Monarch is padding their database with all the resumes they receive from these job postings, which are probably bogus postings for non-existent positions, so that they can legitimately tell clients that they have a heavily-populated stable of qualified temps waiting to serve the clients' needs.
Whom they pick and choose to fulfill these needs is an exact science. Smart people like me are passed over for the reasons I stated above. You stand the best chance of getting hired by Monarch if you're some half-illiterate coming to them off the welfare line, as they can claim you as a tax credit. That way they make money off you even if they don't place you. This is how most temp agencies roll; how sad that this once-great agency has followed suit. Once upon a time, Monarch was truly a honest, ethical agency to work for, and I felt honored to represent them. Now they're scammers, just like every other temp agency out there. Don't waste your time with Monarch -- or any other temp agency, for that matter. If you want a job, your best bet is to apply for it outright to the company of your choosing. read more
