This was our first time here so the menu was big and it had a lot of options to go through. Although some items were on the pricier side, they all looked very good and were worth to try. I got carne guisada with maduros, white rice and red beans as my dinner. We also had gotten salami con queso which came with tostones as an appetizer. The presentation was great but it made it a bit of a hassle to go back and forth between all the little pots as you are trying to eat. I love to mix all my food so that's what I said that. The guisado was a little too oily and over-seasoned, a little too salty for my liking. Overall I'm glad we were able to try yet another Dominican spot. Give it a try, there is something on the menu for everybody.

The menu looks great and has plenty of options. The decor is super cute and it looks like they have some work space available. My only complaint there was the seating. The chairs just didn't fit well under the tables so I was constantly kicking my partner since I tend to move a lot. Each dish that came out was very well presented. Maybe sometimes too much going on the table with all the cutting boards, cute little pots and pilón. On to the food! The salami con queso hit the spot but was not well balanced with the amount of tostones provided. Definitely needed more salami & cheese. The salsa rosada paired well. I followed with the mofongo de chicharron. The chicharron was perfectly cooked. The skin was very crunchy and had a nice chunk of pork. The way this dish is presented made it hard to eat as I normally would. Even after clearing the way, the mofongo was very dense inside of the pilón. This made it hard to mix in the accompanying sauce. To make things extra awkward, I felt as if I was being watched most of my meal. Maybe because we were the only patrons dining in but combined with the difficulty of eating my meal, it just made for a less than ideal experience.

Compared to many of the Caribbean all-encompassing establishments that exist, this place is most definitely legit. Like many family-owned places in the area, it is part convenience store and part restaurant. The dining room is deceivingly spacious, with ample seating for all sorts of groups. They are primarily a takeout joint and are especially busy during lunchtime where they offer some of the areas best hot lunches. It's a lot more quiet at night, which would be advantageous for a big group looking to go somewhere where there's plenty of room. I'm extremely pleased with the authentic options, which include mofongo, bizcocho, sancocho, mangú, pollo guisado, yuca con mojo, arroz con gandules, locrio, and espaguetis (#1). I've only been able to sample a handful of items and am eagerly on the hunt for pastelón (#2) and am very keen on trying their version of tres leches. The pollo guisado I had was full of flavor and perfectly stewed over habichuelas and rice. My espaguestis was a tinge on the salty side, but had a nice amount of olives and the indulgent greasy finish that I would want in any pasta meal. Lastly, the mofongo was quite tasty, thought I do wish we had more chicharron in the mix. The staff is most definitely Dominican as well. I was greeted every step of the way, followed with a "que lo que" and I appreciated the kind service. Prices are solid for the area and cash is preferred here (#3). I am so pleased an option is here and I look forward to many future meals. __________ (#1) Dominican style spaghetti. (#2) Dominican style lasagna. (#3) Read: credit card fee.

Authentic Dominican/Caribbean food in Willowbrook. Who knew?…read more I remember this place from a birthday party decades ago. The space was a bit bigger (they've since redesigned it smaller), but the crowds were smaller. Success hasn't tarnished their food. It was a very rainy and soggy afternoons and the place was packed. We managed a table and ordered. Can't go wrong with the delicious shrimp mofongo. I honestly think the sauce is the icing on that cake, made all the more delicious with a squeeze of lemon. Whew! Service was fast and dinner came out at a reasonable pace. The owner is so friendly and stopped by our table to make sure things were good. Better than good! If you're in the Willowbrook area do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch or dinner. Prices are a little steep, but what's isn't these days?

I ordered the pollo guisado and moro, both were good and we have a little left over. My partner ordered the pica pollo and the fried chicken was decent. The food does take some time, and servers did not check in too often so I would recommend ordering ahead of time (unless you have a long lunch break), There are plenty of tables, but it is a little dark inside, 2 bathrooms inside. The juice was on the sweet side so just watered it down (wish they have smoothies), but they get 5 stars overall for the flavor and the price point. Plenty of parking as it's in located along other stores.

Once we arrived, the establishment was bigger than expected. The decorations were fun and vibrant. The first thing I noticed on the menu was how expensive everything was. I'm sure the only thing they didn't charge for was ice cubes. Although the food was okay, there is no way the portions matched the price they were charging. I officially had the smallest piece of steak I've ever seen on any bandeja dish. I'm sure this could be hurting them because of its location and having many other options for Latin/Caribbean food. The service was alright. When we first got there we just picked a place to sit and waited for menus. The first waitress barely said a word, no welcome, no greeting. Looks like she was getting ready to leave. The second waitress was a little more friendly however I still feel like they lacked customer service here. Needless to say they didn't have the pollo guisado, only bottled waters and soda cans. Be prepared to spend, specially if you come to feed a family.

We got a couple things to choose from. I thought the mofongo was phenomenal. It was cooked to perfection. Very authentic to what I would have in Puerto Rico! They had music blaring through a speaker so loud that I literally couldn't place an order. I'm all for loud music, but not when it completely stops customer service. On top of that, the lady working had a terrible attitude and made it feel like we were a massive inconvenience just for being there, so we left. Decided to give them a second chance at their new spot in the Sunoco at 2920 and Meadow Hill Dr. I stood outside the window waiting to be served, but was completely ignored. Because of the heavy window tint I couldn't see inside, but I could clearly hear her right behind the glass casually having a conversation and carrying on as if I didn't exist. After seeing a Facebook post about them, it turns out this isn't a fluke; rude service seems to be a common trend here. Plenty of people mentioned the food is good, but the owner has a stank attitude. Two strikes, zero food, and terrible customer service. Won't be back for a third try.

A New Yorker in Houston... finally feeling at home!…read more As a New Yorker now living in Houston -- and a Colombian who loves Dominican food -- I have been searching everywhere for authentic Dominican flavors. I have especially been craving Bizcocho Dominicano, and since my fiancé and I got engaged on February 1, I had only ONE non‑negotiable for our wedding: it had to be a Dominican cake. Honestly, I searched online with very low expectations, thinking there was no way I would find a true Dominican restaurant in Houston... and then I discovered Antojitos Dominicano. We visited on Saturday around three o'clock in the afternoon. We arrived late, so some of the daily specials had already sold out (which we regret!), but everything we did try was absolutely delicious -- comforting, flavorful, and authentically Dominican. Then came the moment of truth... the cake tasting. And let me tell you -- the first bite lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I turned to my fiancé and said: "We found our wedding cake!" The flavor, the texture, the nostalgia -- it was everything I had been missing and hoping for. Pure perfection. I am beyond grateful to this New York family for bringing true Dominican cuisine to Houston. Their food, their cake, and their warmth make the restaurant feel like home. If you are Caribbean, a former New Yorker, or simply someone who loves great food, do yourself a favor and visit Antojitos Dominicano. Houston truly needed this gem.
