This was a super hip little gastropub tucked into the folds of downtown Ostend, which is a magical coastal town on the Belgian coast, how could you go wrong? The answer is that you cannot go wrong by visiting this joint. There were large groups happily eating in a small space, there's a second floor served by a spiral staircase and restrooms in the basement. There's a full bar at the entrance and several small tables for the couples and smaller groups. I didn't see the second floor, but I'm sure it's just as comfy up there. We saw a young lady get bounced around and wipe out in the hamster cage, but she just laughed it off as her date probably wondered when/how he'd have to pay for that (a fella never really knows). But back to Mommy's Bastards, their logo looks too much like the false manliness that has come to be the mascot of a whole generation of sissies (the bearded, mustachioed, pipe smoking "man" with a beanie rolled up on his head...I don't believe him), but that's alright, maybe in Ostend, that's a real fisherman, dragging a net behind his little boat in the north sea on a cold, rainy morning...maybe. read more
