If you want to eat close to the museum, it is convenient. But if you have the time, you may want to consider the alternatives. Which isn't to say it's bad. Frankly, typical for a museum cafe, meaning you would not intentionally dine there when there are so many good restaurants in Bilbao.

It's worth visiting for the setting alone. The menu offers a nice variety of Basque classics, pintxos, seafood, and Spanish favorites. We tried the Gilda, Iberian ham, croquetas, and paired everything with a glass of chilled Txakoli. The food was good, but nothing really stood out. After eating at several other places in Bilbao, we found it to be fairly average. The service was the weakest part of our visit. The staff seemed overwhelmed and were constantly rushing around. They weren't rude, but they came across as distant and it was difficult to get their attention. It may have just been because the restaurant was very busy, but it did affect the overall experience.

Every "pintxo" was a delightful dance of flavors.and textures. During my kast trip to Spain in January 2025, I decided.I could not leave Bilbao without visiting the bar located in the historic Plazq Mayor. The place continues being a great place with beatiful ambiance. With all this introduction you may still think why I did not give all 5 stars. Well, to start the new young crew, the seem to be far from their predecessors, no behind bar charm, what makes every bar special, then the selection of "pintxos" are far away to the typical yet excellence of the typical Basque Cuisine. I trully hope this place comes back to the old glory, yet keeping the quality of food and service, that used to b for more than 100 years.

Superb restaurant specializing in Basque cuisine…read more I was invited by my Basque hostess along with several others who are organizing the conference I'm in Bilbao for. Unfortunately I misremembered the date (I thought the dinner was tomorrow) and showed up two hours late, just as the last few courses were being served. Let me assure you, that was more than enough! The first dish I tried was a local specialty - poached egg on a bed of sheep's milk cheese, with chanterelle mushrooms. The cheese tasted quite salty, and I was encouraged to mix it all up. That made it umami-licious, but the texture became quite glutinous (I'm certain our ten year-old would have turned it away). This was followed by bacalao, another local staple, and steak and potatoes, which I washed down with glass of Spanish Roja. Finally, dessert - caramelized flan with toasted nuts and ice cream - likely the best I've ever tasted! Everyone else was looking quite satiated and just picked at this sublime dessert, which surprised me. Then I realized they had been at the dinner two hours longer than me, and probably had about 8-10 more items than I had. I guess getting the date wrong worked out just fine!
