The freezing cold. But even in the dead of winter, we deserve this resort-style pool day, if we do say so ourselves. They provide a nice private bathroom for changing and a shower for cleaning up afterwards. Nothing beats a hot shower after being in chlorine. My only complaint is not anything LORAC can do because the rules and laws they follow, but the lifeguards drive me totally crazy at the rec. pool. I know they have to, but the way they pace around constantly looking in the water makes me nervous. I have literally seen lifeguards look into a full SPA and glance in the corners to make sure someone isn't drowning. I've seen them look into the lane I'm swimming in to make sure there's no body at the bottom of the pool I guess. It's nerve wracking. I try to ignore it but it's so weird to me. Anyway, the pools are nice. Just wish they would have made that part of the pool in such a way they could have had a lifeguard post instead of this marching back and forth and looking into a lane someone is swimming in to make sure someone isn't drowning. To feed its family, or collect as a shiny trinket, I don't know. I wanted a signed guarantee of reimbursement upon checkout, but there was no mgmt present. Initially, I was encouraged by the speed this seemed to be being handled - an email was waiting for me when I got back to town the day of, even if it was extending a cagey "we MAY be able to offer SOME help." But as the office correspondence continued, I was wary the responder kept swapping out, always with no identifying surname - first a Lauren, then a Cortney, then a Heidi. Each time they said they'd be in touch, they weren't. They requested an invoice and did nothing with it. I had to go more than a month without hearing assistance waiting for replacements to arrive. I'd hoped Breitenbush would work out the financials with my audiologist or directly with the manufacturer, but no. I had to re-purchase them. If they weren't under warranty, I wouldn't have been able to afford them. If there's future loss or damages, I'll have to eat the entire cost. But the company clearly doesn't care about that, or me, or the hazards of living unassisted. So I recommend if you are D/HH, DO NOT GIVE THIS BUSINESS YOUR BUSINESS.

Typically covered pool, during the summer months they open a few panels to let the sunshine and warm air shine through. Oh, and the wind, too! It is Hood River so fierce winds are to be expected. You can do a Day pass for $5 or buy punch card of 10 swims for a discount, more of a discount if you live in Hood River and are a senior. Even though I'm from Portland, I purchased o e because I know it will get used. I'm in Hood River frequently - my Happy Place- even happier when I get in a swim. There are 4 lap lanes and 2 per lane, splitting rather than circle swimming, always a plus. There is a timer clock on each end making it super easy to know when you've accomplished your time or to see how quickly you are swimming. Lap lanes are usually available all day but always check their website for the most accurate info. A large play area is available for kids and families as well as an individual shallow pool. A few lounge chairs and lots of metal bleachers on the perimeter. You can also walk a few feet to an outdoor patio if you need more sun. I did! Needed to speed up my drying time after my shower. Locker rooms are typical, a few private showers and an open shower pit area. Staff is friendly. They were super helpful and informative when I called to inquire about usage and the same friendliness greeted me when I arrived. Happy to have discovered this pool and will be back! I have a punch card to use up!!!
