The clothing at The Wardrobe reminds me of something a Sloane Ranger or "Hooray Henry" (I love that phrase) would wear to a weekend excursion to the country. In any case, it's a relief to see a store cater to men who have outgrown graphic T-shirts, skinny jeans and trainers. Tasteful, classic and a bit on the expensive side, The Wardrobe offers a range of clothing from designers like Armani, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren and Henri Lloyd. I quite like seeing a man in clothing like this, especially a fine suit. Good Lord. Anyway, The Wardrobe also has an online store, perfect for a browse if you can't make it to the High Street Arcade shop, or if you fancy a bit of retail therapy outside of business hours. Do try to make to the store though, dahling. You'll be glad you did.

There are some really great items on display in the windows, ranging from ultra smart to really quite casual. They provide suits and shirts while also fitting in all the everyday essentials too. But always classy. This is quite a middle class shop, where rich boys with side partings might come to find something to wear for playing cricket in. But the prices are reasonable and they often have offers on the cards. It's nice to see somewhere guys can go and pick up nice clothes without having too much chance of it all going horribly, horribly wrong.

Prices are reasonable, (the going rate, with quite a few items sold under what you would get them for in the city centre), and there's a sale on at the moment with up to 50% off... great stock, good value... what more can I say?

For such a posh shop, the service here is really friendly - I ended up chatting to a fresh-faced young 'in about studying in Tampa for a few minutes, after a gentleman who I presumed to be the manager happily directed me around the shop. If nothing here is to your liking, Hawkes will create a custom suit for you - all you have to do is come in and get measured. It's worth mentioning they've also just made the suits for the Cardiff City team, as well designed custom apparel for other well-respected men about town. Downstairs you'll find a collection of snazzy shoes, with one pair by Jeffery West in black and red leather that only a man with copious amounts of confidence could pull off. Strangely, they weren't priced yet, but the shop assistant told me they'd be priced between £350 and £500. Yikes.

There's just something about a well cut suit that causes all the other clothes to cower under the table in shame. And if Jack Donaghy has taught us anything, there is nothing that can beat a man in a mean power suit. Hawkes, then, is some kind of bespoke Mecca for those of the suit-ishly inclined. The off-the-rack suits are of a quality unmatched in Cardiff. You'll pay a high price for them, but you'll end up getting a suit that will last you until you die, with a fit that, for an off-the-rack suit, is almost perfectly matched to you. However, for the more tailored suit, Hawkes do offer a bespoke service, offering complete customisation of the suit from the measuring stage, to the material selection stage and through to the finished product. If you have a specific set of requirements, Hawkes are happy to provide. Again, you will end up paying a high price for it, but no one ever said style does come cheap.

Happily, upon a re-visit, I saw that through the years nothing mush has changed and Freespirit still offer a good range of stylish and practical clothes for men, women and children. Upstairs there is a particularly good shoe section where everyone who wants comfortable toes without going into the dreaded JJB Sports will be well catered for. There is also a good range of swimwear and accessories, particularly belts and wallets and that kind of practical gear. This is a fun shop that's likely to please most people under the age of 35, and everyone else who still enjoys the odd spot of sun, or hike in the Welsh countryside.

Occasionally I might even try something on. Now, please don't get me wrong; I think that the quality of these clothes is absolutely worth the price tags attached to them. The detailing and materials used are beautiful, once I fell in love with a jumper just for its lining. And the staff are so lovely and polite that you don't feel too bad just browsing. The layout of the Cardiff store is very well done, and they use the extra window space in the Royal Arcade to great advantage. White Stuff, I think, is what Fat Face used to be. Being only a guest to Cardiff for the week-end, I have never visited the old store, so all my thoughts and comments are for the new store. The range of products stocked were mainly clothing, for example they didn't have any range of spectacles, where I previously picked up a very nice pair from Hugo Boss fairly recently at Vision Express. The range here is of course bigger than the small selection they have at nearby department store John Lewis, so I would suggest visiting both stores before making a transaction and of course Hugo Boss is expensive as it is being a high end brand. The store its-self was quite nice, but everything just seemed okay, however the pricing seemed ridiculous, the pricing here works out something that could cost a paycheck, but this is still a nice store from a high end brand and it does deserve at least two stars!

Men will probably be most satisfied with the Cardiff Hugo Boss (as long as they're prepared to pay the price), women however will be wondering if they missed something. Last time I went, there was hardly any women's clothing, at all, and most of that was work wear. I can honestly say I only found two women's evening dresses. The store is new so perhaps they'll get some new clothes in soon (at least that's what I'm hoping).

I'm surprised I'm only getting round to reviewing TK Maxx in Cardiff, having visited around a month…read moreago now in Mid-August but I'm pleased to make this a landmark review in my way, which is my 443rd this year of 1099th in total, finally beating my review total of what I conducted in 2015, just 270 days into 2016. Moving on to my review now, away from all personal statistics, this TK Maxx store is located in The Hayes in Cardiff, one of the welsh capital's main shopping streets, really close to the St David's shopping complex. This branch is set over 4 floors, but in some ways the layout is quite confusing, with the ground floor and a slightly raised level on the other side, accessed by a total different lift which is both quite unusual and confusing. It is worth noting that the Men's section is on the top or second floor, with home in the basement. As mentioned in other reviews, it is in a way like a "treasure hunt", with mainly one of every product in each size or at least very few, at least in the clothing, so if you see something you can only pray it is your size, which is really annoying. I class myself as a lazy shopper, I like things being done for me so I strongly dislike the format of TK Maxx, and the staff didn't seem too helpful either, and other than on the ground floor, they basically were so few in number. The store in general was quiet, it felt like a jumble sale due to the layout and didn't have a good vibe. It was also frustrating one of two lifts was out of order, which would cause a slight delay if you needed to use it. Another unusual practice used was that the store opened earlier than it should, I entered on a Sunday and I wanted to checkout and buy something, limited on time as I had a train to catch in a few hours, I was shocked when he said he couldn't serve me, probably due to the Sunday Trading hours (Big shout-out to the SNP who voted against Sunday trading hours being lifted in England despite being able to open when they want in Scotland) - This probably isn't the store's fault but there was no sign for this, and for someone who wants to get in and out of the shop, this was just a stupid policy to have, and with no prior warning was misleading. Sadly due to unusual practices of both this store and the brand in general, I sadly feel this store deserves a single one star.

After browsing for 10 minutes, we managed to purchase a very warm wind-proof coat at a great price! ~ Atmosphere: TK Maxx is HUGE but despite its size, it's also very crowded. Granted, we did come during a weekend close to Christmas-time. Still, I can imagine TK Maxx being constantly crowded as I'm sure it's a very popular place to shop given both its location in the heart of Cardiff's city centre as well as the prices. ~ Variety: There's plenty of variety here in TK Maxx. Their section for mens coats was MASSIVE in itself and could amount to a small retail shop on its own! Combined with the fact that it has multiple stories, you'd probably be hard pressed to find something you *don't* like here. ~ Customer Service: Not bad at all. Despite how busy it was, it still didn't take too long to queue up and pay. The employees were decently friendly and efficient as well. --- TK Maxx definitely does the job if you're looking for fashion on a budget, without skimping on quality either. My partner loves his coat so much that it's hard to believe it only cost £50!
