He made a huge mess of my driveway when he came to pick me up. We suspected the rear main seal was the culprit. A significant repair requiring a professional mechanic. Being a local A.V. resident, I am familiar with the Valco Transmission location off of the 138 in Littlerock and I suggested that my cousin take his van there. Immediately upon entering the office we were greated by smiling faces and a few hounds that were all remarkable in personality... humans and canines alike! :-) I explained the oil leak problem and within 20 minutes they confirmed our suspicion that it was a failed rear main seal. They gave us a great quote and we left it overnight. My cousin had very expensive equipment,including a $10,000 electric mountain bike called the "Stealth Bomber"in the van, so the fully gated and secure facility was very reassuring. No worries at all. With a full day of installing a new main seal, requiring the entire transmission to be removed as well as a failing motor mount and a much needed transmission filter with fluid flush, we were on our way. Not only was the price more than fair, they fully inspected the entire drive train for any potential problems and assured us that the 12 year / 145,000 mile old van was ready for a coast to coast round trip. Talk about piece of mind! The reason I know that we were indeed lucky to be near this family owned & operated company when we discovered such a serious problem is that, in the past, I have had mechanical failures in a one mechanic town and had to pay dubble for sub-standard work while waiting several days for chineese parts. I called R&D Auto and Pete was kind enough to let us tow our RV to his lot. He explained to us that we would need a new radiator and thermostat. We had just purchased a brand new radiator from another mechanic shop and found out that the radiator was zip tied in. We also found out that the thermostat was closed shut... Although it was a very unfortunate situation for us. We were lucky to have found Pete. Pete ordered a new radiator for us on Friday and went out of his way to pick it up for us Saturday morning. His customer service went above and beyond... Pete changed out the thermostat, mounted in the radiator, and ran tests to make sure everything else was good before we hit the road again. We drove all the way from Littlerock, CA and made it to our destination in Belen, NM. We were and still are SO THANKFUL to have met Pete. Since the type of engine I…read morehave you can't just unbolt the old one and install a new, no with this engine you have to tear it apart, even remove the timing chain, remove the exhaust manifold and a lot more. I called R&D after a friend recommended them, and was quoted a very good price. So I had my car towed from La Crescenta to Littlerock. I meet Pete on Thursday and we went over the details and price. My car was ready on Saturday in perfect condition. It took a day longer becasue my timing chain tensioner was bad. So having to order the part took one day. Pete was great, everything was perfect. Bottom line is, was it worth it to have my car towed from La Crescenta to Littlerock? HELL yes and I will do it again. Great people, great price and and terrific work. Thank you Pete. Great to back on the road again.
