This store is WAY under appreciated. I'm caucasian but I strongly recommend that people of all…read morecultures should shop there. Here is why I think that: The store has some of the best produce of any store for miles and miles, save perhaps Jarjuras. Stop and Shop and other stores aren't as good and their staff isn't as happy. I'm sure that CV isn't paradise, and it looks a little rough from the outside, but it really is a wonderful store as far as stores go in CT. There are so many different produce items it's incredible. There are about a dozen bins with dried chilis, dragon fruit, blood oranges, fresh bean sprouts, all sorts of fruits and vegetables. As far as meats, they have whole pork shoulders (I make Carnitas), you can get either a shank, the butt, or the whole thing. While there isn't a "massive" choice of meats, it's easily as good as other stores in the area and some meats are things you cannot get elsewhere or they cost more. There are huge sections with various nation's unique foods, much of it latin foods, but remember, latin foods are as varied as all the various foods of all of Europe, some spicy, some sweet, some mild, some pungent, some flowery. They have hundreds of herbs and spices and most of it in bulk quantities for great prices, you will shake your head when you realize what you've been overpaying elsewhere.
The deli leaves some to be desired by CT standards, but national standards its a decent deli and rather than more expensive brands, good deli meats for less. If you are brand conscious (you get fooled by product branding) then you won't appreciate how good the store is. Yes, there are brands like Barilla and Sclafani, but you have a choice, they've got whole 28 ounce cans of tomato past for about 3 bucks!
It's not all Mexican or Puerto Rican food, there are chinese products and more.
