In today's ~Journal Entry, I am going to share some helpful, useful & important information for those living in, visiting, or considering moving or traveling to, Turlock, California...
Currently, I live here & have somewhere in the neighborhood (no play on words here) of greater than 10 years experience with both living here & visiting here while living with my kind Mother, Dar T. .......
Before I get knee-deep in detailing my experience here, I'd like to let you know, in the event you may not have experienced this situation just yet, that Turlock, California has a tendency of "flooding" during rainfall; light drizzles to heavy torrential rain-pours... Why you may be asking?; I honestly have not-clue-one. Best I have been able to ascertain, is that it's a rather "hilly-like-environment as far as the "ground & soil" are concerned...
Sorta like a small roller-coaster is how it feels to walk on areas not covered in asphalt and/or concrete (cement= the "Wet" stage of concrete, Concrete=dried & cured "cement". Cement= The "Wet-
Stage-Of Dried Concrete (that's my personal definition of Cement & Concrete; it helps me to be able to recall the differences as needed in this lifetime.)
Having described & explained the "hilliness" of Turlock's soil areas, The City of Turlock pays a solid-forward when they offer at NO COST to it's residents; COMPLIMENTRY/FREE/ZERO COST Sand & Soil (it's a mixture of both), FILLED SAND~BAGS.
Here's the Skinny (Details; Information):
1. IF YOU RESIDE "IN TURLOCK", I repeat: "IN TURLOCK", you are privy to obtaining PER DAY; I REPEAT, Per Day; 10 Sand~Bags PER Day / PER PERSON/PER RESIDENT.
Mom & I drive down, together & load a total of 20 Sand Bags Each into her Trucks~Bed then we take them home for use in 'filling holes from her cherished Sheep & other areas ON and I repeat ON HER OWN PROPERTY... Your not supposed to use them for gardening purposes etc??. (That I am aware) If it turns out you learn something different about these details please PM (Private Message me and I will make the needed corrections; Thank you Sincerely, in Advance for the Assistance; I appreciate you) ...
They are a gift from the City of Turlock, Even THOUGH we live in the County we are Zoned, City, for some unknown reason... It' makes communication with the County difficult most of the times as sometimes they say we have to go to the Cornucopia Locale and the rest of the limited time they say we are in the City Limits. Either way, the sandbags help greatly; I mean GREATLY...
I have an area that floods pretty badly during medium to heavy consistent rainfall. The sandbags are a LIFE SAVER LITERALLY..... Seriously...
I noticed the past 2-3 "loads", we obtained ourselves, were a mixture of "Sand" AND "CLAY SOIL" ... I don't know how I feel about this concoction....
On one hand, the clay holds it together nicely...
On the other hand, once the clay is "DRY" it becomes a serious labor of love project to chip away at it.
MY experience has shown me that it will be the most user-friendly, (the clay that is), if I smooth out the area just filled with the clay/sand mixture...
That's just my experience as once dry it behaves like "concrete really" and "cement when wet/moist"...
Either way it's super affordable & Mom and I are both on pretty strict regimens with our finances & resources so this really helps, as to purchase them would be very costly indeed... so THANK YOU CITY & COUNTY OF TURLOCK; you've got two ladies who want to thank you personally for your generosity, skillset & availability of a substance/product/item we need & use annually (we usually make several trips per annum to keep ahead as much as possible; on the unpredictable & predictable weather... We are long time residents/homeowner(s) who appreciate your efforts; immensely...
One CONCERN I HAVE FOR YOU: CITY & COUNTY OF TURLOCK (located in Stanislaus County) :
Have you given any thought to recycling the empty "SACKS/BAGS" of Sand once empty???
We've been trying to figure out a use for them and the only use I've been able to come up with is utilize them to for the excrement of my cat's litter boxes and they combined have 5 different litter boxes for them all to utilize at their discretion...
I don't know what else to use them for really as we don't have mounds of dirt/soil/sand etc. laying around to re-fill them with.
(QUOTED) "**During the raining season, sandbags will be available at a self-serve basis 24/7 at 901 South Walnut Ave, Turlock, California. During a storm, the City will man the sand bag station from 8AM-4PM Mon.-Fri."
*** NOTE & QUOTED: AVAILABILITY for Sandbag(s). Info copied & pasted from their own website here: https://www.cityofturlock.org/neighborhoodissues/waterissues/flooding.asp#:~:text=During%20the%20raining%20season%2C%20sandbags,%2C%20please%20dial%20668%2D1200.
