Absolutely awful bedside manner and poorly done work from Dr. Janbakhsh. Office staff on the other hand were great. Liked when when Dr. Janbaksh spotted and removed some bracket cement that was left on my teeth from braces and trusted her to do a filling along the gum line. Some time after this the filling fell out and when I asked about coming in to get it replaced, was told that any number of habits could have caused the filling to fall out and that it wasn't necessarily their work and that I would have to pay $100 if I wanted to get it replaced, all while never being asked to come in for a physical evaluation. Meanwhile I had had multiple fillings done by other dentists and none had fallen out before (or since for that matter). This was the only "holistic" dental office accepted under my insurance at the time so when I first came here I really wanted to like it. Except the option to do bloodwork to check for biocompatible materials there were no questions or treatment options offered to me that were in line with holistic care. Came a few times for some concerns that ended up being less serious than expected and was literally told "do you not have anything better to do than come in here?" while sitting in her chair. This wasn't even in a moment of conflict, this is just how she felt comfortable speaking to patients apparently. Before this she was consistently low energy and not very pleasant but to speak to a patient like that is next level. After I stopped going to her and I started going to NIHA (where she is now apparently) I spoke with someone there about my experiences and they weren't surprised. Those in health care, especially holistic health care, should be the first to prioritize treating patients properly. Not this. read more

Horrible bedside manners. My sister went to visit this doctor and this doctor thinks she knows everything and didn't listen to her concerns regarding her possibly needing a root canal she went on to attempt to "explain" things to her just for her to be right in the end.. the dentist stated she would need a root canal if the healing bond doesn't stick. She expressed her discomfort with the drilling and the dentist then went on to critique whether or not she had ate and said she should've ate before to make sure the anesthesia worked, she was never told that prior to her appointment. They didn't make her feel comfortable and the dental assistant was entirely too rough and evasive when putting things in her mouth to assist the dentist. I would not recommend this place at all, she was on the verge of tears due to the lack of compassion and understanding. It was a very traumatizing experience and to top it off .. the dentist turned into a dietician and proceeded to tell her about her diet. 0/10 wouldn't recommend this place unless you want to be traumatized. read more

Today was my second visit with this office. I met Dr. Janbakhsh my initial visit sometime in late 2018. She was very kind and thorough. The office is updated and I love that they show before and after pictures. During my initial visit, I had some plaque build up due to poor flossing habits. One of the staff members was kind enough to show me how to properly floss. A simple educational service was important for me for active prevention. That was one of the reasons why I have trusted Dr. Jan and her staff with my dental care and why I returned today. I had my dental cleaning performed today by the dental hygienist, Erin. She was very kind, caring, and engaging. She noticed a problem I have been having for a while now - biting my right cheek. She spoke in layman terms and only furthered my confidence in the care given here. Nowadays, I feel that it's hard to find a doctors office that not only possess the medical knowledge but also the compassion that commits to establishing a relationship with their patients. I feel that this office is superb in providing care on both the clinical and administrative side, such as scheduling appointments. Molly was kind enough text me to schedule an appointment which is super convenient for me since it's hard for me to speak on the phone during working hours. Small acts like this is really what differs my experience with other dental offices. I have recommended this office to my fiancé whom is also more than satisfied with the care received at this practice. Dr. Jan is an extremely knowledgeable dentist. My family and myself ( all eight of us) have been going to her for the last four years. I love her staff and her hygienists. We all see her twice a year for cleanings and she has restored a crown in my husband 's mouth. No issues. She's professional, extremely courteous, not pushy, genuine and My children love her! Dr. Jan is NOT a holistic dentist. I put my trust in her and have regretted it for years. I have dozens of filling in my mouth that were not necessary. Her philosophy is to pre drill areas of decalcification even when there is no decay present. A HOLISTIC DENTIST SHOULD BE WORKING WITH PATIENTS TO REMINERALIZE TEETH THROUGH DIET AND SUPPLEMENTATION. I wish I knew then what I know now. I will never get those parts of my teeth back. Her ceramic fillings lasted an average of 6 months. I had to go to another dentist and get replacement filling for all the unnecessary dental work she did to me. I wish I could give her zero stars. read more

I had a great first appointment! The staff was pleasant and organized. Dr. Jan is very holistically minded and didn't bat an eye when I told her to notate my file with "no mercury, no radiation, and no fluoride." She bonded a small chip in my front tooth. She did a great job matching the enamel, but I didn't feel the shape of the restoration matched well enough to the original appearance. Dr. Jan is the best. She filled my cavity in the blink of an eye. I really like that she's conservative and waits and sees about potentially problematic areas instead of just drilling and filling anything she can. She is very good at what she does. When I lost part of a filling I knew I needed to get it fixed right away. The filing was old and I learned from Dr Janbakhsh that old silver amalgam filings are not good for your health. She not only removed the filing properly, but had to custom build the replacement filing. She did a great job and now go to her for all my dental needs. read more

Mediocre dentist- she doesn't communicate was well as I'd like. She's terse and doesn't do a good job of explaining things. She never came up with a treatment plan for me. I wanted to improve my smile, but cosmetic dentistry might not be her forte. Her dental hygienist is very good, though. My experience here had been sort of okay until I had an issue with billing. The office manager was unbelievably rude (She's the lady who wears a headscarf). It took months to sort out and every interaction with the office manager made my skin crawl --she's that nasty. Anyway, I've found a much better dentist. After talking with him, it sounds like Dr. Jan recommends treatments that you don't need to make money. This dentist is not trustworthy. I was not pleased with my experience here at all. It was my first dentist visit in a couple of years, and I found Dr. Jan to be demeaning simply saying I "waited too long" when I asked her for alternative treatments or more suggestion on the numerous fillings she recommended. Dr. Jan and her team are truly excellent! I was looking for a dentist closer to our new home after moving to Gaithersburg from Rockville. A quick search on Yelp led me to Modern Smile. The pictures posted on Yelp are extremely accurate. The office is conveniently located with accessible parking, the office space is clean and modern. Dr. Jan is also a naturopath so she uses and recommends products that are natural and non-toxic but highly effective. She takes her time to explain the procedures and always gives a very thorough assessment for next steps. I never leave the office without a complete understanding of what I need to do to improve my oral health. Her staff, including Gabby and Consuelo, is extremely professional, friendly and accommodating. They all go above and beyond to provide the best care possible. The best dentist I've ever been to see! Dr. Jan is a biological dentist and considers the treatment of your mouth and teeth as an integral part of your body. She has great concern for your teeth / mouth in relation to your overall health. Her staff is polite, friendly and engaging. Dr. Jan is knowledgeable, caring and gentle.
