Hidden gem. Went to Home Depot to pick up supplies for what I thought was an issue with my sprinkler. Three workers advised to purchase three separate parts and one that can only be ordered online--none worked. Went to Modern Irrigation and met Annie. What a relief to find Modern Irrigation! I've been putting off a sprinkler update at my home (galvanized and PVC pop-ups to bubblers and drip), because I didn't know where to start. Hidden gem in Upland and would highly recommend this store to anyone looking for specialized parts and supplies for your landscape irrigation needs. The owner, Anne, was very friendly and helpful and she was able to get me the part I needed without hassle. My only disappointment was finding out that they don't accept credit cards for payment, although Anne let me pay with mine this one time as a courtesy. You know how many times a Home Depot guy is actually helpful? Zero! Modern irrigation is the exactly opposite of that. The lady is so knowledgeable and so helpful. She answered all the question that I had and was very patient. One thing that really stood out to me was that I brought in a broken piece of washer and she helped me find the right replacement. A week later, I went back to the store to pick up more items, and she remembered me and went back to her office to bring back my broken piece. I had left it at the store a week before that and she thought that I might need it so she kept it. This is truly a great hidden gem in Upland to help any irrigation needs. Forget Home Depot and their junk service and junk irrigation products. This store is for professional contractors, but they will work with DIY folks too, and they will help you do your project right. I have put in my own irrigation systems for native plant gardens in my front, side and back yards, and this shop helped me and sold me good products every step of the way. I started by paying a landscape designer, and that was a good choice, but by the time I got around to the back yard I knew enough to design it myself with the help of this shop. The woman who waited on me was very helpful and planned everything. I brought in a diagram with the measurements and she got everything I needed and told me how to put the drip system together. My gardner said that the sprinklers were fine and I had no water pressure and needed to dig up the yard and replace the water lines. I took the old sprinklers to Annie. She tested them, identified quite a few faulty sprinkler heads. The offered to replace just the individual heads or the barrel , springs and heads new. Whichever was best for my budget. This place is so family oriented and I had such a great experience. I agree with Andrew, is like travelling back in the past when everyone is nice and polite.. I went here totally clueless about irrigation system and the manager Annie and the gentlemen (I forgot his name) was so helpful to me and my landscaper. Modern irrigation is everything great about an independent mom and pop business. With so much experience in the irrigation industry, Annie was able to pull exactly what I needed from shelves mere feet away from the front counter. Even though I only needed some simple sprinkler nozzles, I was made to feel welcome and the extra step of demonstrating the nozzle coverage was taken to insure my needs were met. First going to Modern Irrigation is like taking a trip to a time long gone. A counter staffed by Mister Modern Irrigation himself, I assume that's his name because he has been the only guy there whenever I go (except I think his daughter helped him one day) and he's so helpful. I brough a valve for my sprinkler system to have it replaced. A plumber told me it would cost $358,00, Modern Irrigation wanted $65,00 but he would fix it for $7.00 labor plus about $20,00 parts. Can you believe this in 2011 someon only charging $7.00 for labor? If you need any kind of irrigation product, drip to full scale irrigation products his is the place to go. They have a much better selection of the kind of products landscape professionals use and their prices are so much cheaper than the big box hardware stores. I love the service the products and the prices. They are only open until 2pm on Saturdays by the way. read more
