My dad is a regular at Modern Gentlemen Salon and speaks highly of the stylists. After a two months hiatus from my last cut -- I was long overdue, so we stopped by this afternoon. The place is modern and stylish. The atmosphere is relaxing and intimate and fortunately I had a short waiting time. The best experience of the wait time was not surfing through my phone, or flipping through the pages of a GQ magazine. Oh no, it was being offered a refreshment and sipping a glass of whiskey. They offer other refreshments such as water and soda, but I decided to keep it classy. Maya was my stylist and let me just say that she is excellent at what she does. She asked how I typically style my hair and after a few back and forth comments, she went straight to work. I wanted a new look and let her take the wheel. The overall style was everything I was looking for. I was highly impressed with my experience that I also purchased some styling product she used to give my future styles that extra flare! Thank you Maya! read more

If you're in the fence about the slightly higher price than your run of the mill barber - Go for it, do yourself a favor. You are offered a refreshment the moment you step into the shop, nice touch. Diana is highly skilled and experienced and it was a pleasure to sit in her chair. Will most definitely be back for the next one! read more

Maya and the team are exceptional! Great haircuts, good hours and street parking across the street is almost always available (need street parking app to pay). Highly recommend read more

Before finding Modern Gentleman, I regularly visited a number of chains and boutiques. The chains were all noisy and impersonal. The boutiques were slightly better, but I found myself spending a lot of time in waiting areas despite having appointments, and I never connected with any of the stylists. Modern Gentleman is exactly what I'd been looking for. Maya is the best. She's effortlessly conversational, and, thankfully, remembers how I want my hair done far better than I do. Even on the rare occasions when I have to wait a few minutes, the glass of bourbon and leather sofa make it all okay. When I told her I had an infant son in need of a trim, she said she was great with kids and immediately told me to bring him in. I think these photos speak for themselves. Maya and Modern Gentleman get my highest recommendation - my kid's smile is easily worth 5 Yelp stars. read more

I've been going to Maya for 4 years and I love this place. It's very detail oriented with plenty of great perks. You get offered a drink on arrival with some nice whiskey options, a wash and condition to start, a straight razor shave on your neck, and a rinse and styling afterwards. I've always been very impressed with the service. Maya helped me develop my hair style when I started going and I'm always satisfied with the result. Great salon! read more

This place is great. The staff are all extremely nice and hospitable. I had been going to the big chains (Floyd's) for years and you got what you paid for; poor quality, service, and hospitality. I followed Teagan to Modern because she had been cutting my hair for years and the salon overalbrought the same high quality care and service that I had experienced with Tegan for years. It's never crowded and very attentive to the customer they're serving. The owner, Maya, is extremely friendly and has surrounded her self with great people and built an amazing place. They ALWAYS offer me water or coffee or pop when I come in. They even have a ton of great products and a rewards program too you can put towards your purchase. Super easy to book appointments online too. Worth every penny and highly suggest going here. read more

Maya is absolutely phenomenal. I had the same person cutting my hair for 23 years before I moved up here to Chicago, so I was very nervous about finding somebody new to do my hair. I spent so much time stressing and researching places to go, and I somehow stumbled across Modern Gentlemen's Yelp page and decided to give it a try based on the reviews. My first time with Maya, I told her I wanted to change hairstyles after having the same Southern bangs style for 20+ years. She sat me down and we talked it over deciding what to do with my hair. She decided what would be best and most comfortable for me, and she got to work right away. I've now gone back 3 more times since then, and her work remains solid. Maya's very nice and fun to talk to. Also, the place itself is so nice, clean, and spacious. I highly recommend giving Maya a try if you're looking for somebody new to cut your hair. I don't think you'll regret it. read more

One of the best haircuts I've gotten in the city! It's a wonderfully designed space that makes you feel luxurious when you step inside. I can't say enough great things about the haircut though. Maya is super detail-oriented and is always 100% focused on making sure your hair is perfect before you leave. Price is on par with what you would expect from a nice salon and definitely worth every penny once you see the results. Give Maya a call, you will not be disappointed! read more

Great place to get a haircut. The entire place is well kept and clean and sanitized, especially during these times.Been seeing Tegan for years and she does a tremendous job. Can't recommend a better stylist and place to go for a haircut! read more

This is my go to salon for getting my hair cut. Maya always does an exceptional job and goes above and beyond. As a guy who always had bad hair and no idea how to style it, she was a life saver. She took the time to walk me through what products work best for my hair and how to style it so I can match the look I get when she styles it. I always forget the best way to keep it looking fresh and she never has a problem explaining it to me again! Can't recommend her enough. read more

I know Maya for couple years now. My bf used to get a haircut at her place when he used to live close to her. But we moved closer to the city and it was to far to travel there. Now, she is in a city!!!! Yeah!!!! And she opened this beautiful place at Wicker Park. Very modern, elegant and just simply beautiful place. I was just there last week to take some pictures there while she was working. Mayka is a great hair stylist. Very positive. Creative and fun to be with. Also, very committed to this business. Very proud of you! P read more

Did not meet client's expectations. Very disappointing after I requested a simple men's haircut trim and consultation. One of the most uncomfortable hair cutting experiences I've had, so I wouldn't recommend this salon. Possible that you'll have a different experience and it won't be as awkward for you, but sharing my one-time experience. read more

Maya did a great job with my cut today. Spent extra time getting everything just right, and as a bonus gave me the lowdown on where to find the best pierogis in the city! Will definitely be back, highly recommended... read more

I've been living in the WP/B-town area now for 8 years and had always gone to Floyd's on Milwaukee. Happened to squeeze in a walk -in to MGS a couple Friday's ago and I'll never go back to Floyd's again. Ever. Three reasons... First, for the same price as Floyd's I got a haircut and a product, but that's where the similarities stop. Second, Marcin, who cut my hair, was so damn awesome in every way...suggesting a new cut for me, chatting it up about fast cars, UFC, crazy times from our pasts, and most importantly focused on all the details with making the cut work...btw, like it more than anything anyone's done before for me. Ever. Last, environment was relaxing. No, I didn't get that massager thing Floyd's does, but I didn't need it. Shampoo, hot towel were all good n better after starting with the delicious complimentary cappuccino. Ended with me looking forward to the next cut and them giving me the reminder to schedule it. This is seriously something I need, as I find it hard to self - motivate, while my haircut goes from cool to "Do you think I care about what's on my head?". Thanks again and I'll be bringing the built STi with me next cut, Marcin, if you have 5 minutes between cuts ;) read more

Hello.. Truth to be said and I'm not exaggerating this place it has been a transformative experience as far as my hair goes. I've always been open minded to try most of Wicker Park and Logan Square hair salon but the buck stop here with their unique customer service and the super talented hair stylist (Natalie) her way of paying attention for every small detail it's a remarkable experience that would leave you feeling magnificent with an outstanding look and for that thank you. read more

I have lived in the city for 6+ years now and have never found a barber/stylist that I loved. I would usually just bounce around based on last minute reservations which meant never getting the best cut. Now that I have found Maya I will never go anywhere else. It has been about 6 months and every haircut seems to get better and better. Maya is also amazing at making recommendations and suggestions which always help the cut. read more

It took me almost 2 years to find someone who took the time to cut my hair in Chicago. Tegan by far has been the best. I can't imagine to going to anyone else and she is arguably the best stylist in wicker park. read more

Maya is the best. Minimal direction and she makes magic out of it.

I'd like to review this place on the behalf of my boyfriend who has gone here a few times. This place opened up not too long ago right across the street! He's been going to floyds for a while and was looking for a new place to get his haircut because he always complained about how they can't get it right. I helped him look around for a different place and this place had JUST opened, It was perfect timing! I sent Maya an email to schedule an appointment for him to go right after work on the same day and she responded immediately. He came back with a great haircut, perfect length and smelled amazing (: He then received a free haircut for his birthday! I would love if he would continue to go there, but it is kind of pricey. Especially for someone who gets a haircut very often. read more

First off, the salon is beautiful. It is very upscale and clean. When I decided to move to wicker park, I had to find a new place to get a cut. I am extremely picky about who cuts my hair so I was hesitant to find someone that will cut it how I want it. I decided to give this place a shot due to the reviews and Maya has lived up to her name! I have been back three times now and each haircut gets better and better. She is very friendly and listens to exactly what you say and executes it every time. Don't change a thing Maya!! read more
