Due to virus closures, I had to call several hairstylists before someone anywhere picked up the phone. Luckily, G2 ended up being a few blocks away from me. Though it's much more expensive than my usual haircut places, I figured I could justify the "$39 Buzz" cost since the virus buzzcut would be my last for a while. One of my maxims is that you should never let your guard down when getting a haircut from a new person. Unfortunately, I let my guard down and was taken advantage of at G2. On entry, I had to step over a dog gate since the shop doubles as a dog daycare. "I hope you like dogs" I was told as dogs jumped all over me, including on my lap. In the midst of a global pandemic, but, of course, pets are above reproach. Soon after my stylist entered the shop, actually carrying her dog, we got down to business. I doubt she washed her hands as, remember, personal animals don't count, but I ignored this and made my intentions clear. Most other shops are closed, you're going to be shut down by Friday, give me a buzz cut. I was kindly asked if I knew how short a buzz cut was, and I replied affirmatively. I then opted for the hot towel thing, knowing that this was definitely included in the $39. I was really stressed out and was looking forward to relaxing for at least one full minute. Unfortunately, as soon as I tilted back, dogs started sticking their wet noses around the cuffs of my pants. This went on continuously. The music playing overhead in the shop, which was actually quite nice, clashed with a totally different channel played in close proximity to my right ear. At some point, the miniature dogs stopped nosing me, and instead had a brawl in the center of the shop floor. I was happy when the haircut started. I had requested a buzz and the stylist suggested that I should fade it. Sure, I said. Of course a $39 buzzcut should be faded--this requires no further explanation. Ten minutes later, I was all done and the cut was totally acceptable (though no razor edging, which I realized later). I was kind of preoccupied with the fact that this was the first time I had clearly seen my hairline since 2014 and my 401k is down by 30% but I snapped out of it and shuffled over to the cash register. When I was rung up she told me that the cut would cost $59--the most expensive haircut I had ever received. I replied that the website said the buzz was $39. She replied, matter-of-factly, that that was without a fade. It was delivered in a way that she genuinely seemed to believe that the way things had transpired was normal. When a new customer comes into your shop looking for a buzz, this isn't a sneaky upsell you should try to make. You should be honest and say "a buzz with the fade I'm suggesting will cost $20 extra, is that okay?" Simply, the shop atmosphere was stress-inducing, I wasn't treated properly, and I ended up paying three times as much as a buzz cut should cost. But at least they sanitized the pens. read more

I wish there was a way to give zero stars! I work around this area all the time and hit the gym right next to them. I had been eyeing the place so I decided to give it a try. I waked in today to see if they took walk-ins and they said they were booked up for the day. I'm like ok, the place looks sharp I could see that although there was only one guest doing his hair. Then I asked to make an appointment for the next day and right away the lady hits me with the policy "we have a cancellation fee if you don't make it, so are you sure you want to make it?" At this point I figured she was already sizing me up, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and I proceeded to attempt to make the appointment. Then to really make things obvious that my gym ware didn't measure to their $$$ standards she said, well the hair cut is $59.00, are you sure you want to make it? Is that ok!? At this point I boiled up and I said, really? You don't think I can't pay because of my appearance! And walked away before lowering myself to their level. I'm an owner of pretty successful construction company and probably make more money in a week that they make in a year! I don't normally disclose this about me but I hate when people judge a book by it's cover!! This place is very unprofessional, sizes up new costumers and I guess if you're not white complicated you're going to be hit with all the policies! Disgusting! read more

Great place for a men's haircut! Amanda has been cutting my hair for years and I can't see myself going to another salon/stylist in the city. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed and Amanda takes her time in getting to know you and your vision for your cut. Ashley is awesome. She's been cutting my hair for the last year. She knows exactly what I want when I sit down and gets it done quickly but also carefully. I always walk out extremely happy with what I got. She's enjoyable to talk to as well, but also will let me work on my phone if I've got stuff going on. Lastly, I commend them for how they are managing the covid situation. She wears a mask while cutting my hair and constantly is washing her hands to keep the environment as clean as possible. read more

The girls at G2 are incredibly nice, welcoming, and very professional. Ashley has been cutting my hair for 3+ years and I was so happy when she and her sister decided to open their own salon. Now I don't have to worry about Ashley moving away anytime soon and having to look around for someone else to cut my hair! So I booked an appointment at the last minute cuz my hair was getting out of control and my normal stylist has been super booked. I had a very clear image of the cut I normally get. The stylist, Amanda, didn't really seem to look very closely. She basically gave me a buzz cut, with it slightly longer on the top. Normally the top is textured with layers and there is more to style. She took the side fade far too high as it should not have gone much past the temple. It ends at about the top of my forehead. At $59, I would expect a really detailed cut that followed the image much more closely. It was done very quickly too. Probably took all of 20 minutes. It's not a terrible haircut, but it is nothing like what I asked for. Also I had to request that she wear a mask while cutting my hair. There is currently an uptick in transmissions in Cook County, even among the fully vaccinated, yet everyone (2 other stylists and 2 other customers) were maskless. Seven people in a very small salon w/o masks made me very uncomfortable. The receptionist didn't have one on when I got there, but was wearing one when I paid. Also, I didn't realize it was also a doggy day care and smelled strongly of dog. All in all a pretty disappointing first appointment. read more

If you've ever tried growing out your hair you know it gets weird and can stay weird for a long time in the inbetween stages. But Amanda has mitigated if not eliminated completely all the awkward stages for me over the last two years. I get compliments on my hair 100% because of her cuts. She's a pro, super nice and very thoughtful with her craft. I won't go to anyone else. read more

I can't remember the name of the person who cut my hair but when I sat down I told her that I preferred she use scissors on the sides and to keep it slightly longer to avoid the scalp look. She proceeded to use the clippers with #2 trimmer which was way too close and did an awful job blending it in with the top. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and they had no other customers which makes it more annoying that the girl ignored my request. Worst haircut in years...you can get the same haircut at Great Clips for $30 less. read more
