This place was a god send. I had a broken tooth for a year and didn't have insurance to get it fixed. I just recently acquired insurance and gave them a call after I saw a postcard in the mail. They got me in THAT day. I was nervous because I didn't have anyone to watch my baby, but I have been in such terrible pain that I didn't wanna put it off another day. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and they were so sweet and told me don't worry about the baby they love kids there before I even mentioned anything. I was so relieved!! From start to finish everyone was kind gentle took the time to explain everything to me and made the whole situation stress-free. Don't go to Walmart for your teeth. That's what this place is the equivalent of. So this low class establishment took around $5000 from me in late December 2019 and did about half of that for an implant procedure in January 2020. Since then they have NEVER returned any calls from me. They never respond to any communication I give on the website. They still have over $2000 worth of work to do. They put my implants in so I'm stuck with them. Everywhere else I go says that they need to know what kind of implants they used so they can finish the job these parasites refuse to do. Guess what? They don't return their calls either. I'm paying for dental insurance for NO reason because these thieves are refusing to contact me. It's really fun taking twice as long to eat than others do thanks to not having any bottom teeth. Teeth they removed! I'm looking forward to meeting their lawyers. Worst place! They are "in-network" for my dental plan, but refused to see me. The front desk associates are very rude, arrogant and self involved. I was there for several (close to 20) mins before being acknowledged. I started to fill out their paperwork when about 20 mins after that, the office manager came and told me they wouldn't see me. Just said I'm not a PMO but I'm an HMO. My insurance company called them; told them I'm covered and they still refused. They had some identifying information about me, which makes me think they are refusing service because I'm gay. So, if you're gay, I do NOT recommend this place. Before I moved back home, I got my front four teeth replaced with beautiful caps and tonight I'm sitting here watching a movie and one of them falls out! If you don't have insurance. Please don't waste your money or time here. If you do have Insurance, I would say the same. I came in because I needed a simple extraction. I did not have insurance and I would pay out of pocket. With that being said they told me that I would see a doctor and I never spoke to the doctor until the end. She came out and explained how she would advise me to get a root canal Instead and it would cost $1700. I explained I will have insurance in January and will put in implants. The cost of talking to the front desk, one nurse for 5 minutes when she took an x ray of just two teeth. Not the whole mouth. Not a section. Literally, two teeth. At this point I'm convinced I need to find a difference place. I paid the $60 and asked that they send me the x-rays. They assured me the x-rays would be sent to my email later that day.they weren't. Called the next day, woman answers said she would get around to it probably by the afternoon. Never received it. Called the 3rd day and spoke to a different woman who said she would definitely send it that day after I explained how urgent the situation was and I thank her because she actually sent it on the 3rd day. The only person who actually was of assistance was the front desk girl. Again, I think I have left two reviews in my entire life but I just had to leave this because I know there's people of all ages, With and without insurance, dealing with pain and urgent care. Well I highly recommend VCU dental or a different clinic. Place looks nice inside and out but I'm sorry to say, the staff there is terrible. read more

During my 2:30 appointment, modern dentistry on Hull St., Road , I was in the back laying on the exam table 30min after I was given a sedative for a shot to prepare for a crown, than the assistant came back and gave me another sedative again, because the first one had been too long, so I waited 15 minutes before the dentist to finally come , at that point he gave me the shot in my upper jaw, and left me waiting for another 30 minutes, I got my cell phone and I called to the front desk from the exam room and told them I need to leave and get a refund, because they made me pre-pay $699 before I had a treatment. They did refund my money, and asked me when I wanted to reschedule, my answer was ,not at this location again, I think they had too much business and didn't have time to give you quality service at all, I would not recommend any one going this Modern Denistry location on Hull Street to anyone.. read more

I saw modern Dentistry in the val pak offering. I was enthused with the customer service and the office asthetetics. So I sent my wife and daughter there for checkups. After the checkups and xrays were performed my daughter had 2 cavities and 6 baby teeth. She's 10. So my wife came back with 7 cavities. To make a long story short I got a second opinion My daughter had 0 cavities and 2 baby teeth. Wife had 0 cavities. My point is they were willing to drill my daughters mouth when it wasn't necessary. Watch your bills here, I was charged by the company that they charged me AND they were PAID by my insurance company. So double billed. Sent a copy of the explanation of benefits by email to them (thankfully I actually check these) showing their charges were paid for by my insurance and asked why I was being billed on top of it. still took months to get resolved. The manager made me wait on the phone for 40 mins and still never picked up which put their receptionist is an awkward position because they kept lettinge know he was there and they informed him yet never picked up. I have NEVER been treated so poorly by a company esp one that I spent hundreds of dollars at. I don't expect to be scammed and then treated so poorly when it was THEIR fault. I let my insurance company know they are double billing. Horrible customer service by their "manager" Micheal, he is polite enough until you are over charged and then will not pick up or return phone calls for explanations or to correct the problem until I got the insurance company involved then he wrote it as a "courtesy discount" instead of stating he screwed up etc. and then leaves you on hold for 40 mins and refuses to speak with you about why you were double charged. And yes I have copies of everything and the emails sent as proof of this. Same family owns total smiles as well on midlo. If you go here make sure you keep copies and compare notes of your explanation of benefits. These are FACTS and they have all the copies I emailed them and I have their emails as well. In my final email that they sent me a copy of my paid bill so I would have proof later that my bill is $0 I requested a copy of my records and xrays so I could go elsewhere. They never sent them. So DONE with this facility. On a side note the doctor on staff was very good and he kept me entertained during all the procedures. My experience with Modern Dentistry was horrible. Every visit was with a different dentist that had no idea with what was going on. After my fourth visit that should've only been two, I walked out. I asked for a refund of my $508.00 deposit and they refused. A week later, I sent a registered mail letter demanding a refund, and I've had no response! Now I'm seeking legal action. read more

Today was our first visit here and I enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly and gave us great advice on how to properly take care of our teeth. My husband hasn't been to the dentist in 15 years so he has to have a lot of work done, but he knows it is necessary. 1 star only because I had to choose at least 1 star. I had a horrible experience and will never go back. The hygienist bruised, and battered my mouth leaving abrasions on my gums from X-rays. When I tried to tell her that she was hurting me and that the X-ray holder was cutting into the bottom of my mouth she me that yes I could close my mouth and that she had told me that there would be some discomfort. This is the third day that I haven't been able to eat solid foods because of the swelling and bruising in my mouth. I Was told that instead of a simple filling for a cavity that I would have to get a crown. I just went with it because the dentist claimed the filling would not be a great idea. I pre paid $956 for the service and scheduled my appointment for the following Friday. ( HUGE MISTAKE!! ) The following week I ended up in the hospital due to complications with my pregnancy and just wasn't well for a few weeks so I called Modern Dentistry and asked for a refund. I was first told that I should just get an account credit and not a refund which I declined and told the young lady that I want a refund. She then stated that it would take about 8weeks to do which I said was ridiculous but went with it. A month or later I get a check from Modern Dentistry for $144.00. I immediately called them and they had no explanation as to why the check was short $812. Then proceeded to tell me there was no that I could talk to about it in the building because their billing department is elsewhere. I asked to speak to a manager and of course no one is available at the moment but will call me later. This is disgusting!! I want my money back. This has already taken a very long time to refund anything. I didn't receive the services why would I only receive $144?? If I don't hear back today I'm contacting my lawyer. read more

The people were nice. The atmosphere was nice. There is a but. But they seem to care more about making money then their patients. I went there for a regular teeth cleaning and x-ray exams and they said I had a handful of cavities that needed filling costing just a little less than 800 bucks. I had used a coupon for this because I recently turned 26 and didn't have dental insurance anymore. Well I decided to get an alternative option from my usual dentist I had been going to ever since I was 5 just to be sure. He said I didn't have any cavities and he actually took his own x-rays and showed me what a cavity actually looked like and how I don't have any. I got a groupon and went to get my teeth cleaned, xrays and whitening trays made. I am 28 years old and until this visit had never had a cavity in my life. At the time I questioned the"cavity" as I was in disbelief and didn't see the shadow on the radiographs. The whiting trays never fit my mouth and I threw them away after about 4 trys. The actual cleaning went fine. Its now a year later and I am dental hygiene student and am 100% sure that I in fact DID NOT have a cavity and the young dentist was just drill happy. These positive reviews below are ALL FAKE! I went with a Val PAC coupon. They got me right in for ex rays and a dentist Abood checked my teeth. He wanted to crown a tooth that had nothing wrong with it for "stability" he said and replace a filling he said had decay! I am getting a second opinion. I had to come back for the cleaning. They made the appointment at 1:00 the following Week. I was a little disappointed that I had to come back for this when I specifically told them on the phone, in the first appointment what I was coming in for. When I returned for the cleaning appointment, at 1:00 , I waited and waited, at 1:30 I got up and asked the 2 receptionist what was going on. They said that the hygienist would not be able to see me till 2:00!!! I asked them how long were they going to let me sit there before telling me? 2:15 I was finally in the hygienist chair. Mind you I have a half hour drive. The receptionists could not find my records from the previous visit so I had to fill out the paperwork AGAIN! The hygienist did a good job but would not give me the whitening kit that was supposed to be included. I called and asked for my ex rays that I paid for. Jenna the so called office manager said she would send them yesterday she did not so I called again today I told her about how they had botched up my last name and spelled it with a J instead of a G so to look in both. She sarcastically said " it's a hard last name" She finally found the ex rays she said she would email right out. I waited an hour and then called her back. She said she would do it by this afternoon! I said don't make me come in to get them....she then said "I'm sorry are you threatening me?" She accused me of threatening her! These are the most incompetent and unprofessional office staff I have ever encountered.
