Always experienced great service and sound advice working toward my goals. Highly recommend.read more

Purposeful deception or lack of education? I went to Medi for some accountability and support in my…read moreweight loss journey. However, I was shocked by some of the things I was told which directly contradict so much of nutrition and general science. Most egregiously, I was alerted by a supervising nurse that I have "high cholesterol" and that a goal of my participation would be to bring that down. But, what was highlighted and she pointed out on my bloodwork sheet was my fantastic HDL- otherwise known as "good" cholesterol, which is measured in relation to a minimum- in other words, the higher above the minimum the better, and to "bring that down" deliberately would be a very bad goal. I did not tell the nurse at that time that I knew her information to be incorrect, to learn more about whether she was trying to make my health seem worse than it is so i would buy more product, or if she was severely out of date on training. The rest of my bloodwork was (also) stellar. Another stunning aspect was the meal plan itself. They do a metabolic test along with your bloodwork when you attend an intake appointment. My caloric needs for maintenance were reported to be around 1800 calories. I commented that this information tells us that 12-1300 calories would be the standard weight loss target (a 500 cal deficit per day will yield a 1.5 lb /week loss on average) and I was told "no, the weight loss target for that range is 600 calories a day." The Medi program may be "the one that works," but it works because you are being starved- you could eat 600 calories of skittles per day and absolutely would drop tons of weight, because you are dying! The program also allows for FOUR protein shake "replacements" per day (which is egregious), and a very very minimal amount of vegetable which necessitates the abundance of laxatives the program sells. No fruit, no whole grains. This diet is Atkins on steroids, Keto on... just awful. Unlike traditional ketosis plans, this diet does not provide the caloric compensation of fat to reach that minus-500 caloric target which is the all-but universal standard for achieving weight loss without damaging the bones, muscles, brain and metabolism. Each visit with the team was very disappointing- these are pleasant, friendly folks (lovely reception staff) who are touting what i expect to be company-line misinformation, in a medically coded environment. Some information is merely out of date (though drastically so) such as that it is essential (or even useful) to chug a protein shake within 30 minutes of exercise (debunked for years, only has a very slight potential impact for the most elite of athletes who are maxed out in every other efficiency). I was even told that FATS will put me out of ketosis, which I asked to clarify and was reconfirmed (false). They sell a variety of vitamin injections which are chock-full of disclaimers as to their efficacy (wise because they are also debunked) and a wide array of "metabolic boosting" supplements. Participants in this program are likely to have significant short term weight loss due to the extreme caloric deficits with the aid of a vast selection of appetite suppressants- however, once those suppressants are discontinued (and each has very serious side effects, some are meant to be used very short term and will be prescribed indefinitely here) they will regain the weight rapidly. In short, this is a money-making business like any other and due to the extreme vulnerability of folks in weight management and scientific inaccuracies, I think it would be inaccurate to classify their methods as anything other than harmful. If you want to maximize on your health, I recommend seeing a certified dietician and making small incremental changes.
