My (Chinese Malay) aunt insists on eating here when she visits Adelaide. Customer service is hit and miss but easily overlooked! My faves - Peking duck, chilli chicken and the roast duck. First impression of this place doesn't really make for a lasting one due to its outdated interior and fittings. There is little ambience, saved by the warm lighting. It is a very 'typical' Chinese restaurant with tacky decorations and scattered Chinese ornaments / pictures which doesn't flow well throughout the space. Interior aside, lets talk food. It is the primary reason for our repeated return. We come here for the seafood with the cheesy lobster dish being a favourite of ours. However, market price for lobster at the moment is around $170 per kg, so we gave that a miss tonight. Service is slow, so, if you can order well in advance, you should, especially for takeaways and traditional, highly prized dishes such as lobster, king crabs, mud crabs, Peking duck and drunken chicken. Tonight, we had the salt and pepper prawns (shell optional - why? who wants to eat the shell?), fried barramundi, Peking ribs, salted fish fried rice, chicken and jellyfish, pork belly in Dong-Po sauce, prawn balls with greens, seafood noodles and hot and sour soup as starters. Everything was lovely, wasn't a big fan of the ribs, because I found the sauce too heavy in sourness. Barramundi wasn't as well seasoned as it could be. Other than that, it was great! Everyone enjoyed the shared meals and pretty much rolled out of there. The place might be outdated, but the consistency of the food is why we return year after year. Price wise, I think it is very reasonable given the area it is located in. Highly recommended.

I've also eaten plenty of takeaway and when I've been really lazy, taken advantage of the super cheap $3.50 delivery (within 3kms, minimum spend $30). Those in the know say it's authentic Cantonese cooking. The menu is extensive and while I haven't loved all the dishes, if you stick to the usual suspects you won't be disappointed. Most ambitious dish? Basil Cheese Chicken - "tender pieces of chicken tossed with basil, onion with mild chilli soy bean paste on a melt cheese bed and served on a sizzling platter." Don't let that put you off. My favourites are Shredded Roasted Duck Soup for $5.50 and Ants On Greens - "minced pork, sun-dried shrimps and mushroom wok seared in white wine and oyster sauce and served on a fresh greens bed. We ate half (mostly breast), seems normal. When we get to the leg part, we realised many whitish lumps imbedded in the meat. I picked some off to see what they were - they look tumourous or cancerous. Got to be fair, I am not 100% sure. Please refer to the photo attached - can't attach photo!!!!! I notified the waitress right away, who talked to the chef in the kitchen. She came back and said they are normal and certified by the supplier. The kitchen didn't even bother to take a look at it. It only shows me that they knew and served it anyway. I told her to show it to the kitchen, she came out and said they are only lymphatic notes. It was nothing wrong with the duck. They really thought that we are ignorant and dumb. We eat poultries all the time and my husband family had a Chinese/ Vietnamese restaurant for over 30 years. Tell me, have you seen prominent lymph notes like this in the legs and thoughts. We know what normal duck meat looks like. For the whole incident, no apologies from any staff, charged us for this duck dish, gave us 10% off for serving what they called diseased ducks, which is potentially harmful to our health. Such a disgrace! What a shame! The kitchen knew when cutting the duck up, but still shamelessly decided to serve the duck to us. It is unforgivable. They didn't own up the mistake, made up excuses, no apologies given and had us paid for a dish that we can't eat. Very disappointing.

Everytime I head in there and see that wonderful check list of tantilising bite sized morsels, tears of joy begin to well and the 'ticks' begin to fill more spaces than they should! The dumpling casings are soft but firm and the filling is high quality, stupidly hot and 'heart skip a beat' tasty. The steamer boxes keep coming, just as you have knocked off the previous one, and before long the weight of your over enthusiastic ordering hits you. Somehow I always seem to battle through and finish every last dumpling and steam bun (I am quite the trooper!). Some days can get busy, so book ahead, but if you are looking for a feed for lunch during the week you shouldn't have too many problems.
